I've been back in Ireland for 4 months after living abroad in multiple countries for 10 years, and it never fails to crack me up what people think is "dangerous/dodgy" in Ireland.
In the European “Personal Safety” category of the Social Progress Index (SPI) Ireland is 4th, behind Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway. With a score of 90.11. The world average is 61.20.
And you can't even play the "Well Dublin is dangerous" line, Dublin is number 30 on the list of dangerous cities in Europe. It's rated as extremely safe.
Our news loves to rile everyone up, even gang issues and youth issues in Ireland are minuscule compared to most cities in Europe. If you've lived in big cities in England or France you'd quickly see the difference.
When you lived in Limerick and got scared walking past a couple of lads in tracksuits, that was all your own insecurity, because obviously they didn't stab you, or else you'd have told a very different story. Random attacks are extremely rare in Ireland.
I like the way you do your videos though, you've obviously got a talent for this, but maybe put a bit more thought into your topics before scare-mongering
p.s. Numbeo is a horrible site to use for metrics, they are not accurate and have been shown multiple times to refuse first-hand data because it doesn't fit with the metrics they have already collated.

I have to disagree here. I’m also Irish and I’ve also lived in many different countries including France, the US, UK etc.
Ireland is safe… kinda.
I’ve had more problems in Limerick, Tipperary and Dublin than I’ve had in Montpellier, London, Manchester etc.
The danger in the other countries is mostly gang violence. You won’t get stabbed in those other European cities unless you’re in a gang.
In Ireland, kids *will* cause trouble with random people if they feel like it.
That’s why despite Ireland being incredibly safe on paper, it ranks very low on any metrics that measure how safe people *feel* which is actually an interesting measure.
These people aren’t being irrationally cautious, and showing them the statistics won’t make them feel any safer.
You may not get stabbed in Ireland but you will get punched, spat on, assaulted, mugged. The chances of these things happening to you in Ireland are just incredibly higher than any of the other countries I’ve lived in.
It would be a stupid mistake to ignorantly walk around any street feeling safe because the statistics say that you won’t get murdered.
The safety measures are skewed. They only take violent crimes into account. So sure, if you’re a gang member, then you’re unsafe in Manchester, London, Chicago etc. but if you’re an everyday normal law-abiding person, you’re actually safer than you would be in Ireland.
If we’re talking assault rates, Ireland is ranked far worse than countries like Lithuania and Albania which have far higher murder rates. And Northern Ireland and Scotland pretty much top the list for the most random assaults.
So yes very skewed, and it’s damn near impossible to figure out which statistics are actually accurate on something as broad as “crime” or “safety”.
It’s like how the GDP measures that say that Ireland is the richest country in Europe are skewed.
Ireland looks really nice on paper, but I recommend anyone to come visit and actually see how safe they feel walking around. Come to some of the towns and cities outside Dublin and see how apparently wealthy everyone is.
It’ll be a very confusing experience.
Some kf Dublin is really nice, but you got to see some of the areas and backstreets, the garda dosent help with anything, there is no coun I to clean rubbish away or anything.

went to Waterford a couple weeks back now and 3 random chaps started pressing me, reachin in their pants whatever. had never seen em before so I started threatening them askin if they knew who I was and I just kept moving away and they stopped, never happened anywhere else😂😂
Lived in Ireland for 5 years. Never really had any trouble, but Longford and Roscommon felt the most aggy. Live in Kildare. Fairly safe County, but I felt genuinely uneasy in Athy.
