      Hi Eddie, sorry I thought I had sent you a message earlier, but it must not have gone through. I was hoping I could meet you at 9 Saturday morning, then you're not waiting around on me, and you can still enjoy the rest of your day. Would that time work for you?
      The other thing I thought of is that I'm probably not going to be able to get the same feed here that you are using. If I covered the cost, would you be able to send me with about a week of their current feed so I can transition them over gently?
      I'm looking forward to meeting you, and to picking up the rabbits. Thank you again, you having these rabbits right now was perfect timing, and I've very happy knowing they come from such a good home.
      Colin

    I had some surprise Kitts the other day. I came home from school and I found 5 on the wire, all surviving, then yesterday she had a larger one as yours did. I was scared it was a birth defect. (once again you have made a video that has helped me greatly) Thank you so much

    I have been watching your channel and am impressed with your set up. I want to get started again as I raised rabbits years ago. I am angry by the comments I am reading on here. If people don't want to see this then they should watch another channel. All animals start off as babies. Even little baby calves that turn into hamburgers these same folks drive thru and buy and never give a thought as to where that meat came from. HELLO, everyone gets born and is once a baby. Sorry there are so many haters out there. I've watched you butcher. You don't enjoy it and it is humane. Just sayin, don't know how you handle these negative comments.

      @@FoodForThought. I want to apologize for not fully understanding your videos. I've been educating myself by watching many of your videos. A year ago I once left a comment about how I didn't agree with it but it's just a different way of life. And you're just trying to make a living like we all are. You take very good care of you're rabbits and you seem like a kind hearted person that loves animals. I'm sorry for being ignorant before. I am sorry that you don't make videos anymore. You should do what makes you happy and just disable the comments. 🙏🏼 Godbless you!

    I was thinking of starting to raise rabbits in a year or so. When you sell, what qualities do you select for? When you buy, what are you looking for? I'm almost certain that buying whichever rabbit happens to hop out of a local pet shop/feed store wouldn't be a good idea so do you have any tips for a first time buyer?

    im an animal Lover and have 2 rabbits ,3 guinea pigs and 50 hamsters and i get the need to raise animals for food ! My animals are like my kids ,id never kill or eat them but theres a difference some animals are matted and used as food sources it just depends on the situation and reason u breed animals ! i breed and sell My animals, but as Pets, not food ! For instance a person wanted me to sell hamsters as snake food and i wont do it what so ever ,totally against that ! Guess it just depends on what your breeding for !

    I don't know if you ever figured it out, but maybe it is just like rats, the big litters are smaller because they have less room to grow during development. while the 4 bigger babies had plenty of room to grow inside the mom.

  • @squig_8929

    It's the amount. she has four, so the four get all milk plus a little extra, the twelve get just what they need and not extra

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know they'll get a lot more milk. I just wanted to show the size as they had just been born a couple of hours before this.

  • @vanessaallan7858
    @vanessaallan7858 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    you find the same with kittens a puppies, the more in the litter the smaller the babies and vice versa. it looks like she was even lucky to be able to have those 4 unassissted by the looks of them. the risk with fewer nanies is that the become to big in utero to be able to have them naturally

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, I'm just glad she's ok.

    • @vanessaallan7858
      @vanessaallan7858 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Food For Thought it may not be the buck but actually her. it will be interesting to see how they grow up but if they end up no bigger than your usual rabbits and if she has a similar litter size next time then she may not be worth keeping?
      also i see some people putting kits from large litters into nest with fewer babies i think to ensure max survival

      Food For Thought what about the breed

  • @Buckrun11
    @Buckrun11 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have 5 does with babies right now. I don't have the luck you have with the numbers. the largest litter I have had so far is 9. One doe only had 3. I will be doing a up date video this weekend. I have a total of 31 kits right now.
    I have a question, how do you find buyers for the rabbits? Do you advertise? I'd like to sell a few to off set the food bill.

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Buckrun11 I advertise on kijiji. Most of my rabbits that I sell are the mini Rex I have in the house. I have been contacted a couple of times by subscribers, which I have sold breeding pairs and trios. I can't sell processed rabbits in Ontario. If have to go through proceeding inspection and can't be bothered with all that. When you do your video, tell your subscribers that you are selling.

  • @markgil400
    @markgil400 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did they all survive? Also, I watched from other videos that you are not supposed to touch their babies because the mother will disowned them. Maybe if you wear latex gloves that will solve the problem.

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mother's rejecting babies after humans pick them up is an old wives tail within domestic rabbits. If you are kind and have daily contact with the mom, you will never have problems. But, thanks for your opinion

    Hi there ! A question about your nesting boxes . I do have the box-style nests with the circle hole for entrance . Unfortunately I experience some early days deaths when the mother accidentally moves a baby out of the nest after feeding them . Have you had any problems with your nesting boxes ? Should I modify the entrance of my nesting boxes or choose the ones you use ?

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Than Kar Unfortunately you will always have that problem as there is always going to be some kittens that will still be suckling on the doe once she is done and will be dragged out of the nest. Nothing you can do except do regular checks in the morning and night, and how to get them back in the nest.

  • @IrfanKhan-ps7cg
    @IrfanKhan-ps7cg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    its good if a rabbit lays less babies bcoz of milk problem in rabbits its mostly found if a rabbit lays more babies milk is not sufficient fr all babies n they grow so weak n cant survive so easily

    Am still wondering how you always touches the bunnies. Because, what's I heard about touching bunnies like this without cloves can make their mother to eat them up or refused to breastfeed them. What's your own explanations for this? Am a Rabbit FARMER. Here in NIGERIA 🇳🇬. west AFRICA. Thanks.

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have many does, about 8, and I touch and pet them every day. This way they don't see me as a threat to them or their babies. This is why they don't reject them, or eat them. I can completely understand if you have lots (50+) and you don't have time to spend one on one time with them.

      No, just regular black tea. The tannins in the tea are enough to clean the eye. Washing it once or twice is usually enough.

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I do is make sure I get a couple of fall offs and let mother nature take over. Some does do have small litters and nothing you can do about that. If you want larger litters, keep the offspring of the does that have large litters as is more likely that it will continue in the line.

    I used to raise rabbits for 4H for show (silver martens) and am thinking about getting back into it now for meat. My father used to raise new zealand whites as a kid and used to ship them to quebec for sale not much of an industry now though. Im curious if you have any books or websites on rabbit meat production to suggest? My breeding before was more trial and error not very well planned. I also never knew about the cleaning of babies right after birth. Kinda figured the mother would not nurse them with the smell of me on them. You just have such a better setup then what I had so i figured id ask. Keep up the good videos at first I got you and your brother confused but Ive got it straightened away now haha great stuff!

    And WOOOOW that's a lot of baby's😱 my female rabbit gave birth accidentally and she had three baby's though none of them survived. She didn't want to take care of them, and maybe it's because it was her brother she mated whit? Is that normal? (Btw that happens by accident,the brother was free roaming and she jumped out of her cage)
    But is it normal that she didn't want to take care of them because they were his??

      Sara Tuggle Touching the babies will have no effect on the mother eating the babies, especially if you interact with your rabbits every day. You should never have the male in the cage anyway as the female will fight the male anyway. You take the female to the male to breed, then remove once the fall of is complete.

      New rabbit. That's what I do. I get a new doe. But also, she may do it for a reason. Make sure she's getting all the nutrients she needs, and try again before harvesting her. But sometimes you get a bad apple. I have a kit killer rabbit, but she was raised as a pet, so I just don't breed her. I may try again, but do things differently. Give her extra hay, extra treats, etc.

      Wona Peaceful Point one, if you interact with the moms daily, they won't perceive you as a threat and won't be bothered by your scent on the kits. Point two, the male kits on average mature at seven months old and will be dinner long before that.
