Honestly, it was the most game accurate thing in the show so far.
Yup. I once had a critical failure in Fallout 1, and not only missed with a submachine gun, but had it explode in my hand 😂
The turrets in Fallout are like Stormtroopers in Star Wars... they shoot a lot, but miss often.

Michael Emerson (the doctor) worked with show runner Jonathan Nolan on a great show called Person Of Interest a decade ago, he played a genius scientist who walked with a limp and had a Belgian Malinois to protect him. So Lucy holding the gun up to the guy while asking for directions is a nod to how players in the games will forget to holster their weapons before talking to NPC’s.🤣🤣

My best non spoiler advice for watching this is just that if something seems very obviously unrealistic for some reason, you just go "it's probably a game thing and this is like half video game world" haha
Yep, like with the turret. It notoriously lacks accuracy in the games as well, it was obviously a nod to the players
In an interview the actor said the dog didn't feel like running during the turret scene and they just went with it
They also shot desert scenes in Namibia. Santa Monica Pier also survived the nuclear blasts. Lucy hasn't actually killed anyone yet, she wounded her husband but it was Hank who actually killed him.
Funny thing about blast waves: they're still waves. And that means you get crests, troughs, interference, etc. So the structures that survive aren't necessarily the strongest ones. They just happen to be in the right place.
I feel the ghoul's approach to gunfights is "there's no kill like overkill"
The dog is a Belgian Malinoise, FWIW.

Lucy only swears once in the season. The rest of the time she replaces it with Ned Flanders-isms. Which is a pretty funny running joke.

Siggi Wilzig is from the Enclave which is the remains of the US government and they have all information on the vaults
The thing Lucy uses to cut off Wilsig’s head is a melee weapon from the game, called The Ripper. Also fun: this show actually provides narrative lore to explain why Dogmeat in Fallout 4 is literally an unkillable super soldier dog. Radiation doesn’t damage him and no matter how much damage he takes in a fight, he won’t die. And gets back up after it’s over.
The best way to think about the characters as far as games go is that Lucy is your typical first time game player, lvl1, has no idea what's going on. Maximus has been playing for a few days and has a overall idea but he's still not a pro. The Ghoul is your die hard fallout player who's got 200+ hrs in and knows it all.
Cant wait till next year when they finish a series that released all the episodes together 😬👍😊

Shit I JUST realized that the Ghoul's gun, which fires both explosive and normal rounds, is probably a call out to the multiple ammo types in the games but the dope less gamey interpretation is that he loads his ammo in a specific order which he then uses strategically in battle
Which, is also the explanation for what some people think is the biggest plot hole. Don't want to spoil, if iykyk. Ammunition type
@@thathighguy6980 Exactly. [ SPOILER ] I imagine he didn't wanted to use that special ammunition with Maximus because he saw how inexperienced the kid was with the armor (I said kid but Aaron Moten is actually 35 years old) and thought he could take him out without it
@@eduardoarmenta9232 my thought was honestly simpler than that. He wasn't expecting to be shooting knights and didn't bring ammunition to kill them. His second encounter he was fully expecting them and came equipped accordingly. And was devastatingly effective

13:20 in Maximus' defence, you can see a shot hit the pistol before he drops it, that one is on the Ghoul.
I keep forgetting Wilzig is only in one episode. so much happens and Emerson brings so much to each scene.
To the show in general, I feel they perfectly captures the feel of the games and even things like the stylised combat and "magic game healing device" aka Stimpaks etc, without making the show feel "gamified" either.
Of course they brought the OST too, which as you mentioned is likely a pain to edit around 🤔

Love that they immediately picked up on how naive Lucy is. Initially, people said this show was gonna be terrible because they thought her dialogue was corny when that was literally the point
This world runs on the game logic, since it's canon to the games, that's why some things seem wacky and unrealistic like the turret missing.
Max didn't drop the gun; The Ghoul shot the gun, making Max fumble and drop it.
Firing a gun while wearing power armor would definitely require a lot of practice. No tactile feedback through the gauntlet would screw up pretty much everything.

The dog ain't no boy - nor a German Sheperd.
The two main dogs used are Lana5 and Nunaya - both of the Belgian Malinois breed, both female dogs.
Looks a bit similar, but are actually not that closely related. Malinois tend to have much less dark fur patches.
The particular breed tends to bond more to a single person than German Sheperds, hence are actally a better fit for the Fallout universe and the RPG companion aspect :P
He didn't drop the gun, you can see the impact on it when it gets shot out of his hand.

12:20 bothers me because it wasn't about slipping the bobble head in for marketing. THIS IS HUGE IN THE GAME. FOR ONCE in a video game adaptation, little things are appreciated on where they are placed. You can find many bobble heads withing "bigger" towns.
Love 404, but to be fair, she left him few options when she was actively mauling him. It's still funny how that is the point where people go "fuck the Ghoul" after he just killed 10 people though 🤭

At the point she was given the job of cutting off Wilzig's head, Lucy has NO idea about the chip. This show is not just an adaptation of the video game. It doesn't take direct stories from game characters and turn it into live action. This show is a story of its own but is based within the Fallout universe and faithful to its lore.
How can anything "banana flavored" be considered humane?
That turret was a mk1 version.

They are very poor at aiming in the games.
I started playing fallout when the third game came out and have been hooked since. I love watching folks with no clue what the overarching worlds story is talking about the show. Its exciting as an old fan to have so many new fans to the franchise discovering the just bonkers crap in the world of Fallout. Welcome to the fold gents. To me great sci-fi has a deeply political message to be made. This world is telling us from the very beginning that Nuclear weapons are dangerous specifically because the people that control them are the Capitalists that have up to now clearly shown 0 empathy for anyone but themselves and them having the ability to end human civilization in an instant is the single most dangerous threat to our survival. The fantastical elements of the story are that we bounce back but that only works because the reality is we would not. It would be an immediate end to life on this planet as we know it.
Don't worry, we won't come for you when you miss references. With that said, let's talk about the upload rate...

dog people are weird.
This one was honestly one of the weakest eps of the show in my opinion. The fight in the town, chopping of the leg - a scene that could be very dynamic suddenly felt very slow with all the movements and people talking without much rush like there isnt shooting happening outside xd
