Exactly. She came out against Blackburn when Blackburn was running for re-election. She said she had struggled in 2016 with saying anything and had regretted keeping silent. As far as I recall, she basically highlighted the terrible things Blackburn has said and done, and spoke well of Blackburn's opponent.
It was about legislation. Blackburn opposed the Violence Against Women act--mostly due to the minority groups it included. Taylor was upset, especially because the legislation would help stalking victims--like herself. Taylor's family, and upbringing appear to be conservative.
@@cariwaldick4898 - I find the way Taylor handles the press in particular, to be filled with such class, that I'm inclined to think her parents raised her right! She maintains a sense of humility in the face of such attention. It transcends politics.
Pastors and churches USED to be very careful to not mix with politics for fear of losing their tax exempt status. Now it doesn't seem to matter. And it should. There are churches that follow that law very seriously. They should continue to be exempt but once a church or church leader changes their non profit to profit (whether they do it legally or not) and/or once a leader or pastor crosses the line of blending church and state, that status should be lost!!
So, what does that look like? Is it political if a pastor gives a sermon against lying--maybe with examples of politicians who lied? Is it politics to talk about helping the poor--and give examples of government programs that help the poor? Or, are you talking about endorsing specific parties or candidates. And if that's what you mean, does that only mean the pastor? What if the secretary endorses a candidate, or a Bible Study teacher? Or a vocal member? Church members, clergy, and staff DO pay taxes. What part of the "church" do you want to tax? Tax the tithe? The donations? The offering for missionaries? The funding for various ministries? If it's the offering you want to tax, do you really believe it will rein in politics? I mean....taxes usually make me MORE politically active, not less. Most people focus on the churches in the spotlight. They focus on those that are being led by (seemingly) Godless pastors, greedy mega churches, and those intent on fleecing the flock. Those churches are a tiny representation of churches. Many churches do a lot of good. Churches fund hospitals, orphanages, daycares, schools, and shelters. Churches run disaster relief programs. Churches run soup kitchens, battered women shelters, addiction services, foster care programs, and literacy programs. Churches do job training, operate clothing closets, minister to the elderly, and work with at-risk kids. If you tax THOSE churches, you'll impact the programs that help people. Taxing the spotlight churches won't stop their politics--it'll probably increase it. "Tax the church," sounds suspiciously like, "Everyone else is granted First Amendment rights, but churches must PAY for them."
@@cariwaldick4898 I personally would say to the church, "stick with the gospel, tell the listeners how the gospel states it and let the people grapple with what it means for them." Second, if a church wants to be a social service agency, which is a great way of living out the gospel, then it might create a social service agency specific to each area it is reaching out to. If a church wants to send money to support those agencies, that should not be the pastor's decision, rather the decision of the people who are giving to that church. I can write a check to a church and put the name of a social service agency on that check, to bypass the churches operational budget and go directly to the agency. I think it's better, for me, to directly give donations to the agency I want to support.
How is this politics? Maybe it's different in the great north wood, and that was meant endearingly, we have that pesky thing called, you know, the first amendment. Last time I looked a church was considered a religion ... Rev. Ed is neither and just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it ... political. Sheesh. If he said this on the pulpit, you probably still wouldn't have two legs to stand on because Reverend's are also allowed freedom of speech ... just sayin'. Final thing, and it might be a touchy, there is this magical place called the library where they GIVE you a card that allows you to check books, and other things, totally free, maybe you should check one out.
I saw a clip of Taylor discussing w her “advisors” about getting involved in politics. Taylor started tearing up when she talked about Sen Marsha. Taylor was hurt that Marsha voted against the Violence Against Women’s Act.
I saw the video too. It was sad because her dad was just really worried about her safety and that’s the only reason he didn’t want her to get involved. But she is tough and she did it!!
Every single thing I hear about Taylor Swift actually just makes me like her more. MAGA is shooting themselves in the foot 🦶 picking such a popular and celebrated " target".
@@UnashamedCaliforniagirl I'm not much of a fan of her music, but her values are spot on. I love how she gave $100k to the truck drivers who hauled her props around the country for the tour--on top of great pay and benefits. She gave everyone associated with her tour hefty bonuses. Unlike Trump, who bankrupted the small business contractors who built his casino, and everyone who invested in products named for him.
That was her parents. Not her advisors. Her dad didn’t want her to say anything because he was afraid the MAGA cult would come after her and attack her. They do that. They don’t take people disagreeing with them very well.
@@stephanienilsen3078 I was referring to Republicans who understand how right wing politics works, the average follower does not and is clueless to the lies, misinformation, psychological manipulation and exploitation of their beliefs.
Their fear is valid. If Taylor encourages her fans to vote, that already bodes well for Democrats. If she encourages them to vote FOR Democrats, that pretty much the end of Trump's hope of ever becoming President.
Hello all TGIF…Taylor will take a political stand. As she stated in that famous 2020 video. Taylor regretted not being so vocal, and does not want to be on the wrong side of history. Taylor is for BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. She recognizes Citizen Trump IS NOT for BASIC HUMANS. This is why the right fear her. She alone made a million New Registered Voters.
Taylor Swift explained exactly why she would speak out on political issues: she sees value in being on the right side of history far more than she sees value in not offending current or potential customers.
In that video where Taylor Swift is trashing, Marsha Blackburn, someone off camera says “if I came up with a scheme to cut your fanbase in half you’d think I was crazy”. What became of that? She (at least) tripled her earnings, led the most successful concert tour ever and became a billionaire. All while maintaining her dignity. You go girl!
I love that they got set up to be so mad and fell for it, and keep actively fighting to continue falling for it. They've made themselves such easy marks for trolling that it's just absurd. The fact that they're so anti-sensitivity is just the icing on the cupcake😂 The MAGAs live in a prison of their own creation and they fight to continue doing to.🙃
I always want to thank you from the refreshing break from the kind of Christianity in oklahoma, America! Because I'd be surprised if Christ would have anything to do with those calling themselves Christians here! I'm a lifelong Democrat and a lifelong Christian!!
Why would a clergyman alienate nearly an entire generation , when they are at the age of choosing a church for the rest of their lives ? Need we ask why attendance is dropping ?
Religious affiliation is declining because we see it as the root of evil - point blank. Every war can go back to religious differences and America was created to escape religious rule and persecution. I’m incredibly spiritual but I will never choose to follow just one church system.
My father was an ordained minister in the Nazarene denomination, and politics rarely left his mouth at the pulpit. But in the run-up to the 1980 elections, Jimmy Carter vs Ronald Reagan, I remember him saying this. "Register to vote. It's your job as a citizen. Then consider every candidate for every office, carefully. Consider their character, their intentions, their past accomplishments and their past failures. Spend a lot of time in prayer, ask God every question you can think of. And then vote! Vote for the candidates you feel would be best for the country, not necessarily best for you yourself. Vote in accordance with your most selfless conscience, and in accord with that still, small voice in your heart that you only ever hear following prayer."
Fox “News” and the likes of Brian Kilmeade hate Taylor Swift because they don’t like successful women with their own money. The fact that Swift is also one of the best songwriters in the world only makes them more angry. For Swift to be so gifted and so successful and then have the temerity to encourage her fans to get registered to vote was too much for the Trump loving propagandists at Fox. So now they’re denouncing Swift. My reaction to this is twofold: Part of me is shouting YOU GO GIRL! Another part of me has already started praying to our Lord to keep her safe from Trump’s MAGA goons.
Do uou know anyone at Fox? Don't judge people. Its their right if they don't m like Taylof Swift. I dont.like her but its not because she's successful and has a lit of.money. I just think she's messed up about a lot of things.
Oh please. Noone wants any harm to come to Taylor swift. Ridiculous. Everyone has a right to their own opinion You expect people to respect yours but you cannot respect others whose views differ. You need to grow up
@@margaretjones7954 Oh yes I will “judge people” - especially cable news propagandists like Sean Hannity and other Fox News pundits who have lied, week after week, month after month, for years, on behalf of Trump. Hannity and company fed millions of Americans the lie that the 2020 election was stolen. In doing so, Fox deliberately fanned the flames of the insurrection. People died on Jan6th and Fox “News” bears at least some responsibility for the bloodshed. So I damn well will judge the right wing loons at Fox News who have now turned their hate machine against a young songwriter whose political opinions they don’t like.
She’s a very loved billionaire and unlike Trump she doesn’t have the taxpayer paying for her security. She pays for that herself and she pays them well on top of that. She has a man that loves and worries for her. I’m sure and her father not to mention so many people as fans all around her if anyone made a move on her I’m sure it would be a stampede. Fortunately, TS has serious FU$ and can afford to stand up for what she believes in. Similar to Ali refusing the Vietnam draft and going to prison. One of my biggest disappointments with the MAGA movement is the cowardice of all the church leaders in American, who are afraid to stand up to all the hate. I can’t see myself ever stepping foot in a church again. But I love to hear what Ed has to say.
You so know Ali when he refused the draft all of his assets and everything was frozen. His manager was loaning him enough money to pay rent. Read up about it. It's actually kind of cool. But Ali made a stand when he could have lost everything.
I had the same thoughts about the MAGA Christian movement yesterday. In addition to your analysis, I would add that Christians are known by their fruits.
Love your word, Rev Ed. I think it is fear, they lack faith enough to surrender the fear to God and live in love, joy, and peace. Fear overrules the mind and heart. Pray our brothers and sisters give up fear and embrace love. God Bless Everyone!
Great words Reverend! Love the message! So I'm not a Democrat, I'm further left than them. However, I wouldn't tell someone that they have to vote Democrat in order to be Christian. Or that they aren't real Christians if they vote Republican. In my humble opinion, I think Churches and religious leaders out there shouldn't tell people how to vote, but rather encourage them to look at the words of Jesus and the Bible and how that should steer our decisions and actions. But I've lived in an increasingly reactionary USA for a bit now and I sadly don't see that changing. I do think we are due for another reformation however, so we'll see what happens.
This is why separation of church and state is vital to a true democracy. People who talk like this have no idea 💡 that they are trying to force people in to conversion . That's not of God. My God is a " gentleman" not a tyrant.
Why indeed? Even on a practical level, churches in the U.S. who engage in political campaigning are not supposed to be allowed tax exemption. There is an IRS form to report churches that violate that law.
Honestly tax exemption or no I am not a fan of churches telling anyone how to vote. The very concept reeks of Authoritarianism and Authoritarianism is UnAmerican.
The IRS would need funding and permission to go after those churches. If they started to do that, every Republican will claim that the government is attacking churches.
What you say Reverand Trevors is so true. After being a daily communicant at a Catholic Church in Houston, TX for over 40 years, when a new pastor was elected and started his Trumpian support saying there was only one way to vote if you were Catholic, and even after the insurrection I left that church. I recently went back and I saw a church in neglect. In the pews were a few elderly broken, sweet souls but most have left. I feel sorry for them. I am still bitter about being told to vote for Trump or get out. I am out and much happier, but I like you ask why a Church would try to shove such a criminal and bully down the throats of people who detest his Faschism, even if he helped do away with a woman's right to choose.
The catholic members of my immediate family go to a church who says the same thing. One of their congregants actually ran for office last year. Thankfully VA has an open primary, so this non-Republican was happy to help primary him out in favor of the only Republican of the 8 candidates who didn't seem absolutely insane. The churches need to be taxed. This is insanity.
@@FakingANerve I used to think the same way. The best Catholic churches do not preach politics. They preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified. When a particular church does equate Catholicism with a political party it is sacrilege. And they should lose tax-free status.
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household” - Donald J. Trump
Once again father Trevor I agree with you and I believe that you are speaking words of wisdom. I would say this that's so much of what is happening with the far right is centered in the ignorance of not knowing what is written in the Bible and in being afraid of those that are different. We as Christians need to educate people that the people that we are marginalizing that we are afraid of should not be looked at in the way that we are looking at them.😊
Thank you for this! It is one thing to fight for a moral imperative. Such as when Christians protected Jews during the holocaust. Or Quakers were smong the most fervent abolitionists. It is another to state that a particular candidate for office is chosen by God because that individual promises political support. If that person IS chosen by God: God will not fail in putting in place His choice. God does not need my help. God wants me to do my best to fulfill His commands.
I’ve been saying the same thing these people are going around trying to do God‘s job as though God isn’t doing a good enough job on his own. Seems to me they have forgot a lot of things or they never did learn what they should’ve learned. One simple thing is free will. I know that we don’t have it all figured out but I also know that they don’t have it all figured out either. But you wouldn’t know it.
Not only are Republicans not half of her fan base, but Republicans aren't half of our voting population, as shown both in 2016 AND in 2020. They're the minority party, out of the last three Republican presidential terms only ONE also had the popular vote behind it.
Thanks Rev Ed for this discussion great video , your explanation was awesome,..If someone is a fan of Taylor Swift politics shouldn't matter... God Bless 🙏
It's said that all politics is local. It's at the local level that the Gospel is lived and demonstrated, for almost all of us. What is our job as followers of Jesus? We are to love our neighbors as ourselves. That's a pretty simple charter, but it's not an easy charter. Do we succeed by initiating an encounter by telling someone we disagree with them? Are there better ways to express and demonstrate that love we're supposed to be about? Food for thought, and prayer. Amen
Every time I'm struggling with something, it seems like Reverend Ed puts out a video that says just what I need to hear. I don't know how he does it. but he makes me feel better about the world and more at peace in my heart.
It's called the "Spillover Effect," where Swifties and football collide. Patnaik said that in just months the love story has generated more than $300 million dollars for the NFL. 🤷♂️
And so much money for communities. Where Taylor Swift goes, businesses around her thrive, the local economies get a huge boost. She's doing good things for the country, but the modern Republican party isn't about doing good things for America.
Re your comments about the economic impact of a Taylor Swift concert: She is currently here in Australia. Her three Melbourne concerts alone are projected to add $1b to the local economy. That is triple what the AFL Grand Final (our version of Superbowl) brings in. Roughly 10% of my colleagues here in Adelaide have taken time off to travel interstate to Melbourne to see Swift. That's 5x more than would do this to go to the Grand Final.
I haven't given a single thought to Taylor Swift. I listen to someone from music though. Frankly her dating life is just not important to me. I also don't think that every woman is focused on marriages are ultimate goal in life, so there's that.
The way some of the pastors talk so negatively about ppl going to hell if they do not vote for Trump and how they lash out at Taylor is disgusting! If I was going to a church that said some nonsense like that, I would speak up and/or find another church! True Christians should know what the pastors are saying is not something Jesus would want!
I have been a member of a few different churches over my life because of moving to different places to work and live. No one discussed politics in any of those churches. They would certainly pray for who ever was elected as prime minister regardless of what political party they belonged to.
If Swift supported Trump, maga & right wing media would rail against any criticism, saying, Taylor personal 'freedoms' are being suppressed. But you don't here that because she doesn't.
It is really amazing to find that there are still individuals of faith who actually act Christ-like and are willing to stand up for truth and what is right, regardless of the consequences and reactions from a backwards and hypocritical segment of society.
While you were talking about the mission of the Church, unbidden a quote from the Bible came into what mind I have, Psalm 95, 7-9, 7) "For HE is our GOD, and we are the people of HIS pasture, and the sheep of HIS hand. O that today you would hearken to HIS Voice! 8) Harden not your hearts, as on that day at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, 9) when your fathers tested ME, and put ME to the proof, though they had seen MY work". I don't know why that one, but it does seem to fit the situation.
Father, have you ever listened to Thich Nhat Khan? He's a Buddhist Monk. I love listening to him. The 2 of you calm me down like no others can. Thank you.
Taylor Swift has never told her fans to vote Democrat. She has never said what affiliation she is with. Taylor tells her fans as an american citizen, it is their duty to register to vote if they want to make changes. So far maga doesn't stand for equality, morals, integrity, etc. This is what scares maga. Instead of falling for maga's fear fracture, the young generation is fighting back by fighting for what is right. God bless you Rev. I love your videos.
My mainline protestant church has several feeding ministries and every so often makes a social statement based on the Gospel. This makes some of my co-congregants upset because they say it's the church getting political. I feel that no one was more irritating to the powers that were than Jesus. I agree with what you said. As long as the church isn't endorsing a particular candidate, it is not blurring the separation of church and state ( which I believe protects both entities from corruption). But who we are as believers and followers of Christ should be what we use to make decisions about who should be our leaders or who shouldn't be our leaders. It's very dangerous to believe you have Jesus in your "pocket" and then endorse someone that he wouldn't recognize as a deciple. Telling someone that they are evil if the vote for your opponent is just plain wrong. Also, this is minor, but I have heard through TH-cam channels about the music industry that the business model of sell albums = money isn't accurate anymore. Nowadays, streaming services make the money, and the artist makes most of their money from touring and merchandise. So, tour they must That's how the artists and all the support folks get paid. That and owning the rights to your own music ( which the record companies usually own)
#teamswift Is Rev Ed doing a Domino (from X-Men) cosplay, or has he been getting in to fights? I don't know if it is the lighting on this video, but he looks to have quite a shiner on his right eye. Thanks for another great video.
I think people actually underestimate Taylor. At least 10 years ago I watched a piece on 60 minutes where a well known and extremely successful music executive proclaimed her most likely the talented songwriter of all time. And her business acumen is off the charts. She oversees every bit of her professional career-- lighting. Costumes. Sound. Placements. Every single thing goes by her for the last word. She is passionate!!!! She breathes music you can see it. I’ve been a fan since day one and I’m 65 lol. But honestly she’s not just a pop star. She is a serious music genius
It's not just that she has younger crowds; it's also that young women adore her. Women vote dem more than men. The double whammy against GOP candidates getting elected; young & female; both. I would love seeing devout people take away the spiritual authority claimed by the GOP. Rather than "black lives matter," I would have liked the mottos "black lives are sacred," & "when abortion is outlawed women die; even 11 year old r*p* victims," sayings that protect the weak.
The rumor is they have already been engaged for few months now. They haven't taken it public yet, for obvious reasons. She'll be on tour for at least another year, as her next album will be released this Spring. So I predict their wedding will be in 2025. They really are perfect for each other. Even their astrology charts are highly compatible. Air feeds Fire. And I can see Travis being very happy playing Mr. Mom, especially after he retires from the NFL.
All good points! But speaking of "hell", why would any member of any religion threaten non-believers with "hell"? Especially if we have songs that say: "they will know we are Christians by our love..." (Nowadays, we know they are Evangelicals by their hate. And it is turning many people off to religion in general, because of the actions of the immoral minority.) IMHO if churches want to reverse their membership numbers, "hell" in particular, is one concept churches would do well to avoid. Partly because it hurts their cause, but mostly because "hell" is incompatible with a God who loves all of us with an infinite love. The authors of the Bible were human, and humans make mistakes, pretty much as a matter of course. The idea that the Bible was written by God is relatively recent, so I"m told. Perhaps we would be wise to drop it...
Republicans (at least recently) do not seem to care about Christianity anymore. Btw - My wife and I have been life long Republicans. Keep on preaching the truth, brother!!!

The evangelicals did not want to be associated with the Catholic teachings in so doing they did adopt the teachings of love and caring for other people.
I don't know anything about Taylor Swift and I have probably not heard any of her songs. But, not everything in the world has to be about economics. She has the money and power to stand against evil and, who knows, she might even make more money. When it comes to the church and their unwavering fealty to Trump, you are quite right. He's not our mission; spreading the gospel and Christ's love is. We need to get back to that.

Amen!
They honestly appear to see the church as a " country club" rather than the hands and feet of Jesus. It's heart breaking actually.
They are CrINO’s christians in name only.
Yes!!
Great comments She stood up for what is right... Taylor Swift she has Rights too as a celebrity if she sees something wrong she can comment..
It was 54 seconds. That’s all the screen time Taylor had at the super bowl. Less than a minute and people still lost their minds.

True
It's pretty funny but sad to grown adults having a meltdown over a popstar instead of the politicians that cause so many problems.
@@pshaw8406 There is plenty of meltdown about politicians. It is spread quite thickly and generously.
That was her mom and dad she was talking too.
I can't imagine investing so much posterior myalgia in opposing someone asking other people to exercise their right to vote.
"Posterior myalgia", succinct and to the point. I am sure that a politician wouldn't have been capable of such a summary. 👌👍👍👌😄😄

Why would a clergyman alienate nearly an entire generation , when they are at the age of choosing a church for the rest of their lives ?
Need we ask why attendance is dropping ?
Because clergy need to make money for only the next 20 to 30 years. And they will say and do what is needed to make that money.
Interesting. Your father sounds like a true man of faith and wisdom. By "true" I mean one of depth and authenticity.
Powerful.
"At no point does jesus say give up authority to one man." Thats a great line.
He never said he was on anyones side either. 😊
Ridiculous. Everyone has a right to their own opinion
You expect people to respect yours but you cannot respect others whose views differ.
Republican Jesus: "Love thy neighbor as thyself (some exclusions apply)".

Good point
@@maryherrera8603 agreed
Muhammad Ali didn't refuse to go to Vietnam because he had money, he did it because it was against his Muslim beliefs. He didn't care about the money.
It makes me sad to hear someone say that they don’t want to step in church! Maga has cause so many issues in our beautiful country and that is so sad.

I am happy if they just leave religion all together.
Beauxcarroll8348. Thank you for this perspective. It's a thought I've felt but couldn't articulate. Appreciate it. 💜
I agree
Amen. I am not a Republican or Democrat, I pray and vote for a candidate, that does not make me more a less of being a Believer.
So why is this allowed if technically is not allowed? Why law is a applied only for.some??

Same in Australia in the 50s and the communist scares.Priests thundering about the evils of communism whilst inflicting evils of their own on children
@@FakingANerve I used to think the same way. The best Catholic churches do not preach politics. They preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified. When a particular church does equate Catholicism with a political party it is sacrilege. And they should lose tax-free status.

Once again father Trevor I agree with you and I believe that you are speaking words of wisdom. I would say this that's so much of what is happening with the far right is centered in the ignorance of not knowing what is written in the Bible and in being afraid of those that are different. We as Christians need to educate people that the people that we are marginalizing that we are afraid of should not be looked at in the way that we are looking at them.😊
Amen Reverend Ed 🙏🏿❤️
Live and let live ✌
Excellent reasoning. Jesus was a truly political figure. He promoted human rights in his sermons. That's why he was crucified. (not jmo.)
I am glad there are Christians who protect atheists... from other Christians.
They just scream the loudest

Amen
I’m not a swifter but TS’s influence for kindness and sharing and generosity is a global thing - starting with the bracelets…

Yup... that effect is global, providing jobs, economic advancement, emotional support, Love & Joy to the world...

Taylor is as "American" as apple pie, baseball, and Chevrolet. Why would Republicans attack such a wholesome female entertainer?
Because they have only a slim chance at power. If more people vote, they have no chance at power.
Because that's the Trump way. He targets over half of the United States citizens due to the fact that they don't believe in his ways/choices/lies.
It's always awesome to here from you
I haven't given a single thought to Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift has never told her fans to vote Democrat. She has never said what affiliation she is with. Taylor tells her fans as an american citizen, it is their duty to register to vote if they want to make changes. Instead of falling for maga's fear fracture, the young generation is fighting back by fighting for what is right. God bless you Rev. I love your videos.
😢Take eye of the most important aspect of the mission...Love. Where is Love in the chruch...the fruit of the spirit?
Bishop Barber-
It's not just that she has younger crowds; it's also that young women adore her.
Artists today make almost nothing on album sales. They make bank from the concerts, ticket prices are insane.
Because Taylor is staunch in her beliefs and that is more important to her than the profit from records. She was correct in calling out Blackburn.
BEEN BUSY, WHERE DID YOU GET THE SHINER???
All good points!
But speaking of "hell", why would any member of any religion threaten non-believers with "hell"? Especially if we have songs that say: "they will know we are Christians by our love..." (Nowadays, we know they are Evangelicals by their hate. And it is turning many people off to religion in general, because of the actions of the immoral minority.)
IMHO if churches want to reverse their membership numbers, "hell" in particular, is one concept churches would do well to avoid.
