My Van was last serviced with Long Life Oil and so does not need a Service. Here I show you how to reset Service Light so that it will wait another 12,500 miles before the Service Light comes up again.
If you service the Van yourself then you will need to reset the VW T5 Service Light.
Apparently this also works for How to reset service light on VW T6 Transporter (VW T6 Service Light).

Nice one it’ll help on resetting my 15 plate T6 service light 👍
Worked first time. Simple instructions thanks 👍
Great news. Enjoy your T5 ! Had a few probs with mine lately but all sorted now. 😎
Thanks Lurgs! Brilliant info, explained / demonstrated easily - job done! Happy Camper. Cheers!
Jerry Bird Great stuff. Glad it helped you out and thank you for subscribing, have a marvellous week.
Thank you, it's much easier than a lot of manufacturers, very similar to Toyota.
I've worked on several mercedes and even following the exact process it's a matter of luck whether it works or not...
Yeh I tried a similar procedure as stated on a Vauxhall Vivaro but it just wouldn’t reset!
Glad this all worked ok. Enjoy your Van.😎
@@LurgsHowToGuides the Vivaro is a Renault Trafic and Renaults seem to always be awkward to reset for some reason.
I've been doing a fair amount of work on a friend's T5 recently, today it was a service and front pads. The reset worked well, thanks. It did seem strange that the service interval that came up afterwards was 9400 miles though, seems like a very random mileage.
@@whatharmcanitdo Yeh I had a Renault Trafic once but it wasn’t great. The clue was the Renault garage was always really busy fixing things!
@@LurgsHowToGuides haha yep!
I live in France and the saying it "achète Renault, rentre à vélo" which translates to "buy a Renault, go home on a bicycle" (it rhymes in French so it's catchy).
I'm a mechanic, spent my career in a Toyota dealership so I'm bored out of my mind, and I've joked about moving to a Renault garage because I'm always guaranteed work 😅
This is very helpful. I will have a go on my 2015 Caddy which has an identical dashboard. Many thanks!
Yeh hopefully the same procedure!
Just what I needed to know. Cheers!
Cool. Glad to help.😎
Sorted, job done, simple instructions that’s a cheers from me👍🏼
Great news, glad you got it done and glad I could help. 😎
Thanks. Working perfectly 👍
Nice one. Glad to help. 😎

No problem. Hope it goes well. 😎
Happy Easter

Happy Easter to you, I got a Cadburys Fruit and Nut Easter egg, yum.

Thanks you ! Perfection! 😉

Cool vid as I'm thinking about getting a T5 in spring; but now I'm wondering.... how does long life oil store all the regular carbon contaminants (that it collects over time) _plus_ the additional contaminant quantity accrued since the oil is in the engine longer ( more miles plus time ) than regular oil and still manage to keep its lubricity?
I feel like " long life oil " is a marketing scam designed to fleece you of your money with the market logic that it'll last longer but isn't double the price.
The reason we change oil is to remove the carbon sludge and debris that has accumulated over time, and because over that time oil breaks down through use ( heat cycling, molecule structure breakdown through shear and pressure ), and the combination of contaminants plus this breaking down of lubrication quality means it no longer does the job its meant to efficiently.
I can understand that something marketed as long life oil might have increased resistance to the speed at which it breaks down and loses its protective quality ; but how does it handles the additional carbon contamination load built up and suspended? That stuff is picked up and suspended in the oil and it had to go somewhere ( round and round your engine wearing and embedding into the oilway walls/pipes and frictional surfaces ).
Please enlighten me! 👍
My answer would be definitely buy one as they are solid Vans. You can always service it with regular oil every 12,500 miles. Only thing to watch out for is the Alternator clutch pulley failure which can snap the serpentine belt and damage the serpentine tensioner. I replaced the tensioner but it failed again until I was told it was the clutch pulley. My Van is the 140hp version and pulls like a train. Although with the crackdown on Diesels it might be taxed to the hilt in a few years! Thanks for visiting my channel. I've got lots of VW T5 videos in my playlist.
Top man. It works a treat.
Jason Rogers Great stuff. Enjoy your Beast, love my Van. Happy to help 😎
Superb
Thanks.😎
Cheers 👍
No problem 😎
Perfect

Hi I need to set temp gauge for motor
This is for a T5.1
TY
Happy to help. Hope your T5 is running good.
Videazo chaval
Looking for engine temperature display
Me too, it's not on my Van either and is REALLY ANNOYING. Only way you can tell is probably with an OBD2 reader or install an aftermarket one which attaches to the coolant pipework somewhere. It's always annoyed me, first vehicle I've ever owned without one!
Still coming on with inspec beside it
Not sure I'm afraid.
Mine states 7800 until next service. Any ideas please? Thanks for vid
It says 7,800 even after you reset it?
@@LurgsHowToGuides sorry for late reply. Yes no matter how many times I do it. It says 7800
If you leave it does it countdown? So after say 50 miles it then says Service 7750?
@@LurgsHowToGuides I'm not sure I haven't done any miles in it since I reset it. I will let you know when I do. Currently fitting a towbar so won't be until new years day
If it does start counting down then your service interval must be set at 7,800 !
it doesn't do anything, my van is a 2011 tdi 2.0. Is it same as yours?
This one worked on mine. th-cam.com/video/5-Tk1AmwOWw/w-d-xo.html
Must be a slightly different procedure on that dashboard as that is the upgraded one with the Temp Gauge on it. Cheers.
Different to my t5
You need to change oil about 12500 miles, if you change on long life your engine don't like it...
