Thanks. Not knowing San Diego, I drove up and down for like couple hours around the area. There were 3 spots that I took the video, The first one (at 1:39) is kind of North East of the airport, great view of landing but not good for take off. Colombia St and Walnut Ave., not very high with front just a big drop off. Ran into a man just watching there and he said he lives there for 40 years and this is the best spot to watch. Worth a try.
Agree 100%, it is a extreme airport , but accident rate has been kept to the minimum. I think weather at SAN been mild all year round also help. The sink rate on final approach is awesome to ride on and watch, just like Angle of Attack on departure at SNA. How often do you get reverse pattern? I assume SNA -type of take off will required then , With 9,902 feet runway requirement for 744, maybe a VIP744 will work . Great job at SAN.
That busy air port only have one run way while one plane is taking off another is coming in for a landing at the other and of the run way. They take turns taking off and landing. If theres a crash landing or an emergency im guessing all the flights are on hold.
I remember my dad taking me and my two brothers to what was the viewing area in the late 1950's. We were all three toddlers then but I can remember the three tailed constellations and some jets. Then we would go over to the harbor and check out the tuna fleet and amfibs parked there.
I don't think San Diego is technically is dangerous airport just maybe i guess you could say an "extreme" airport or it has a difficult approach. And plus it is (about) 9,500 feet, but then again the Laurel Parking structure limits the the runway for approach. And that is so cool you have seen a 747 there. I still would really like to experience that one day at San Diego.
I figured but I would of figured they either would of expanded long before everything else around it was developed or as you said move it. Do you know when most of the neighborhood about it was built?
The 10th most dangerous airport in the WORLD, according to some. Shocked to see a BA B777 (200ER, I assume). That runway just doesn't seem that long. And the threshold is displaced. Also, you get to fly between several high rise buildings on the approach....look out and see people relaxing in a cocktail lounge at the same level as the glideslope......little scary. BUT, I've personally seen a B747-200 take off from Lindberg Field.....light I'm sure. Also, Convair B36's after WWII.
The harbor and pt Loma with the submarine base is on the west and north. There is Hwy 5 and terrain to the east, not to mention downtown. I'm not sure exactly when the neighborhoods around there were built but they are old. You could probably get a better answer to your question from Google or something. But Iv'e heard talk of moving it to Miramar, or Brown field or even Borrego. First two being marine and/or navey bases and Borrego is about 80 mi. east in the desert.
MIKECNW . . . It was an official airport in 1928 and the city was a small town back then. San Diego area also has Montgomery Field, Gillespie Field, and Brown Field and the North Island Navy airport and Miramar (Top Gun) Naval airport. San Diego International Airport (Lindberg Field) is very convenient for business travelers but corporate & other business planes use the other fields also.
Kenri Grisham BA does a flip flop between 747 400s to the 777 300ers wen I was younger they use fly the 747 300s into San Diego then the 777 200 started coming in now it wen to the 747 400s now it's the 777 300ers
There is no room for expansion. A cross Rwy is out of the question because of Hwy 5 to the east and PCH to the west, For the same reason they can't put a parallel Rwy in. So for decades there has been an on going debate as to where they should move the whole airport. Basically that airport has been there since airplanes were made of wood and fabric and the air traffic has out grown the space. Much like San Diego in general.
Why didn't they name the airport after the men who flew non-stop across the Atlantic nine years before Lindbergh? Oh I know, it's because they were British and not American
+Ryder Lee You are incorrect Sir. That is KSAN, with I-5 in the background. I pass this field too often to not know it. At 1:37, you can plainly see one of the aircraft carriers moored at North Island.....
all kinds of great stuff here. enjoyed it.
5:21 thats the best spot, love that angle.

You're so lucky for living in San Diego, mate! Enjoy it :). And great video, by the way.
Those birds come down hard. Nice video.

You can the San Diego Sheraton Hotel and Marina at 1:42. I stayed there back in September 2013.
I love my town.... San Diego is the very best city... IN THE WORLD!
this is awesome, still cant believe we have come this far as to be flying these things

super cool video linjeflyg :)
I will be going here with my family in the next couple of years. Very excited :)
That small airport only has one runway. One plane is taking off as another one comes in for a landing. Its the busiest runway i ever seen.
Simply Awesome - landing , down the mountains; onto the harbor in Dan Diego
From my kind heart, *Under Construction*
0:00 - Airbus A320
1:03 - Boeing 737-700
1:07 - Airbus A320
1:30 - Mcdonnell Douglas DC-10
The best place ever was the now closed "The Wind sock Restaurant" It was great !! They used it in the Top Gun movie.

Thank you Cesar
This is not the only major airport in SD is it?
This is the only major airport at the San Diego area.
What location were you at at 2:09

isnt Jal flying triple 7s or 787s out of san diego now? I thought I saw that last time i was in america
787 is currently been used by JAL for NRT/SAN.
I don't know how this question's gonna sound but how come it was built with just one runway?
Sounds odd for a big city airport.

Where are you located to get the shot at 5:22?
Google earth Latitude: 32°43'38.19"N Longtitude :117° 9'53.47"W
Yes, airshowlover has lots of great video from San Diego
what is the location for the spotting near the end? Is it on India Street?
It is Colombia St. and Walnut Ave.
Did they open something different instead at that location?
I am guessing that you are taking this video clip at MCRD?
I used to live in SD and plan to move back. SD is literally 737 and a320 haven.
Are you aloud up there or do you have to pay?
Thanks and you love it as usual :-D

MD 11 landing was awesome
Does Air Iberia really have a 737 flight from KJFK?@night?
Is there a good spot at Lindbergh field for plane spotting? I live in Escondido, and hate driving up to the In N Out by 24R at LAX all the time.
Haha, you know all the flight schedule I take it
Oh, it's my house on the right at 5:24!
5:55 looks like Presidential 69 ... "vamonos" haha

Yeah its true you can look it up on maps. I guess that's something you will have to ask the people who built the place. LOL
I hope ppl lives in houses behind landing track pay cheap rent. How can tjey sleep with that loud plane engine
