Back in the 90s I was a huge Hanoi Rocks fan. I used to have all their albums and later on bought all collections what ever I found. In the early of 2000 Hanoi Rocks was recreated again with Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy (the lead guitarist). The New Hanoi Rocks lived 2001-2009 but it never was the same. Andy McCoy used to make most of their songs and his solo career is quite interesting one. I think you should listen Andy McCoy - Strung Out, because I feel that's a classic. Thank you for making this reaction. It really warmed the heart of old Hanoi fan.

I went to see Hanoi Rocks live at Lyceum Theatre, London 1984. They had such an electric presence on the stage.

They started in 1979, I think this song came out in 1981. Definitely came out of the punk era, so really before the "hair metal" days. They're often described as being from the "glam punk" era. This song was on the album "Bangkok shocks, Saigon shakes, Hanoi rocks." I played the hell out of that album; these guys were wildly talented and had a lot of influences, Rock-a-billy for one. Diverse. If they could have stayed off the drugs they would have been awesome. Their drummer Razzle died in a car crash when Vince Neil of Motley Crue flipped his Ferrari (drunk). You might listen to "Don't you ever leave me" or "Pretender," which was my favorite on that album.

HR was also probably the first Finnish band to receive large scale international success and appreciation outside Finland. Too bad they fucked it up with drugs & alcohol. A quote from Wikipedia: "Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett says "The Hollywood scene changed in just one night after people saw the pictures of Hanoi Rocks. After that everyone was wearing the same kind of hair, clothes and make-up as Monroe. Michael Monroe and Hanoi Rocks have often been mentioned as the founding fathers of the Hollywood's glam-rock scene, which was then adopted and developed by many 1980s glam-, punk-, and hard rock bands like Mötley Crüe, Jetboy, LA Guns and Poison".
P.S. Recently discovered this German dark/black metal band via Spotify's playlist "Discover weekly". I know that you (and I also) don't like harsh vocals, but as the vocals are in German, they aren't that disturbing, at least for me, Unfortunately I couldn't find any live performances with good sound quality so I suggest this "NACHTBLUT - Lied Für die Götter (Official Video) | Napalm Records", You don't have to make a reaction video of this if you don't feel like it, but let me know your thoughts of it.

Listen to the Hanoi Rocks song "Underwater World". In that song there is a phrase "Welcome to the ocean. Welcome to the sea. Welcome to the jungle." that influenced the same named song for Gnr. Influence of this band is huge.

The riff you singled out reminds me somewhat of ZZ Top? Idk.
I’m also familiar with the name Hanoi Rocks via GNR but have never listened to them, so this was an interesting first exposure-thanks for that! I’m also kinda laughing that hey, they’re Finnish!, because most of the bands I’ve taken a liking to in the past 15 years have turned out to be Finnish. They just make great music over there, I guess.

Hanoi Rocks was the reason why I started to listen rock music as a kid :D I sneaked to my bigger sister's room and listened her Hanoi Rocks albums. Later came Gn'R, Skid Row, Alice Cooper and many others :D This is one of their best songs definately, and I also like that raw glam rock sound.
Suggestion! Mike Monroe feat. Slash: Magic Carpet Ride!

I love Hanoi Rocks and Michael Monroe solo releases are great, especially what he released in recent years. They released back catalog Hanoi on UZI Suicide back in day. Have them all on UZI as well as some label that released before. They had a European vibe that was a little different than LA scene.

Thanks ;). Makes me remember how old I really am :D. Great band, they were totally different in Finland at that time ;D. You’re quite near on finnish rock roots. There`s still one band you can go ”deeper”. If you have spare time checkout, just for fun, band called Hurriganes, song is ”It Ain’t What You Do”. They made their Album ”Roadrunner” in 1974, it’s still one of the best selling albums in Finland although nowadays we have great bands like Nightwish, Amorphis and so on. The sound quality is brilliant on that album, it’s absolutely legendary. Hurriganes leading man (Remu, the drummer) called Michael Monroe ”a fu****n rooster” back in the days when Hanoi Rocks started their career ;), because make up ;). If you check it out select the one where they are sitting in Cadillac, it’s album versio.

Ryan Rebalkin Bee is the song by which I, an old man, started to like harsh vocals. If I remember correct on one reaction video you said that you are not so much about growling and harsh vocals. If you start Amorphis with The Bee, don’tlet it scare you, they also have many great songs where there is clean singing.

Little late here, but better late than never, right? Speaking of Axl's look, there was another Finnish band, which was trying to make it in the US in the 80s after Hanoi Rocks. That was Smack. Apparently at least Izzy and Slash has named Smack as one those bands they got influences from. Slash went even so far, that in an interview for a Finnish media, he told that Smack was his favorite band in the 1985-1986. Loved their first album and loved seeing them live, he said. Also Nirvana has played Smack's song "Run Rabbit Run" on their gigs. Thinking of rabbit hole, If there's interest towards a Finnish band, which influenced Hanoi Rocks, then there's Hurriganes. Fun note is also Andy McCoy's Punk band Briard and Michael Monroe's and Andy McCoy's appearances on a Finnish Punk Rocker Maukka Perusjätkä's music videos "Säpinää" and "Vaatteet (on mun aatteet)". Clothes (Are My Ideology), just to wrap this up. A Finnish connection to Metallica would be a band called Stone. There's an ongoing discussion about riffs relating Stone's song "Get Stoned". In the end of this clip from a Finnish TV music program is a funny interview with Ulrich and guys from Stone: "Stone at Yölinja/Rockstop 1988-1989".

@Ťørɱȩṇ Nobody should ever research a band because they are reacting to them, imo, it wouldn't be as genuine as it possibly could be. When u claim to be a fan of a few bands in particular and have mentioned this more than once. It comes off as insincere, since, if u were a fan of any of the bands that were mentioned, research wouldn't be needed. It would be common knowledge. Maybe insincere is the wrong word. Pandering might be another. Enjoy
