I was a student at Northern Illinois University when Russell Peck wrote and premiered this piece. I was in the audience for the first performance in the early '70's. He was a very soft-spoken man with a great sense of humor. I was an amateur composer at the time and the saxophone teacher, Randy Misamore, asked me to write a piece for a 16 person saxophone choir (4 quartets) for the International Saxophone Congress NIU was hosting. It was well recieved even though I thought it was just so-so. The next day I was walking inthe hall and Professor Peck asked if I would come to his office. He asked me how I liked the piece I wrote and I said it was ok. He said "Well, I liked just about everything you did! I hope you will write more." I can never thank him enough for the kind words of encouragement he gave me that day. He could have just enjoyed the performance and let it go but he took the time...... he was a great teacher. I performed this twice with my high school band and they loved it. This is a very good performance. It is missing the potted plants and the dry ice machine to create the fog in the original. In your defense, however, the second time I did it, the dry ice machine set off the fire alarm during our rehearsal period and emptied the 2000 members of the student body and faculty from the school. The administrators did laugh about it but the fog was cut from the final performance.
Just stumbled onto this video - I believe we performed this when I was at UD around '99 or '00? I didn't so much remember the music as walking around in the dark in Boll Theatre

I was in the audience at NIU, too. Plus, I worked with Randy Misamore for a few years. I still enjoy Cave.

Awesome, Nicole!
The only thing missing is some nonsense spoken word. Thanks for the beat nick video and thanks Wamp for picking this for the Halloween concert.
