I'm a newer physical media collector and a HUGE Bruce Lee fan, and was THIS close to buying the Criterion collection earlier this year. I held off because I figured there may be better versions of his films this year due to the 50th anniversary of his tragic death. I'm glad I did, because I imported the incredible Arrow 4K set which has features up the wazoo, and will buy this and Frankenstein it in. I def understand the frustration of the WB EtD disc not including any features and that not everyone like me can afford (or even get now that it's sold out almost everywhere I look) the Arrow set as well, or even have a region free player for the blu-ray only films and features. But I am happy to see that it's both versions and am very curious to check it out w/ the Atmos track.
Hmm I think I will keep my Blu-Ray special edition box set ...and maybe wait till the 4K in on sale.....but wait the UK version does contain the Blu-Ray with the special features..YAY..
I remember first watching this back in the 70’s and it’s still my favourite martial arts movie. I don’t think I’ll bother with this edition though as I’ve just bought the Bruce Lee Arrowe boxset which is awesome.
I cannot wait to purchase it.. I am starting to create my own ultimate edition by purchasing Disc holder that holds 2 disc from amazon and transferring the cover to it so its can hold my 4k and old disc with supplements.. Yet, It really is frustrating that Warner is doing this with their titles.. I love your passion and your channel.. Also , great seeing you in Let's get Physical Media....
Got my Arrow Bruce Lee Harvest set but will be picking up this 4K as that is not included in the Arrow set with the licensing stuff. Definitely interested to hear the Atmos track on this knowing it wasn’t ever intended for it. Thanks for the great overview Heath!
Looks like we're still getting the blu-ray in the Nordics, which presumably will have special features. Having the special features is one of the nice features of physical media. I don't care for the movie on regular blu-ray if I have the 4k disc, but I do want the special features. If I wanted to go online I'd go online, but when going physical I want the whole package on my shelf. 4k movie by itself + extras on a different disc is perfect, and the way it should be.
Great video, Heath! Beyond historical preservation, I also have a practical complaint with WB not including the Blu-Ray. I’d like to get rid of my Blu-Ray copy when I upgrade so that I can save space. But when they skip out on the special features, I often find myself having two copies on the shelf. 🤷♂️ That said, I’m super happy this movie got a 4K release and it’s a must buy for me. A true classic. I watched it a thousand times as a kid and love it more as the years go on.
Thanks for your thoughts - I’m purchasing even tho I’ve had it on vhs , dvd and blu ray . I agree that the extras should be included (both porting over all the older features as well as new material) I was a history major in college and I think having the history behind the making of the film , and the cast / crew is so important, for the art and saving / preserving the artistic history for generations to come . The same seems to be getting done with Exorcist , which seems strange . Standard editions with limited edition box sets that have more materials on the film backstory and blu ray copies of the film . The LE was only 2000 UK copies , and had lots of other goodies …… it sold out in hours and scalpers were selling for at least twice the price . I do have a problem with this as the product hasn’t even come out yet so how are scalpers allowed to control this stuff like this. ? And WB did nothing to have a happy medium option with the extras and blu ray copies , without the LE goodies ….. a kind of mid tier option . As a film fan , a fan of art and pop culture and a bit of a historian (all stuff I collect I go with a historical bent , having studied history in college) I think the importance of the features helps to create an understanding of the specifics of how the time or specific events helped shape this art . Why is WB skimping out ???? I don’t know . Can they be that fearful of lack of sales ?
I think the only possible reasons WB is leaving extras off are: 1) they don't want to spend the extra money to include the Blu. 2) they don't know those features exist. I can't think of any other reasons. It has to either come down to greed or ignorance. They don't give us the cover art we want, they don't carry over most of the special features, and they definitely don't create anything NEW to celebrate the film, even though they're celebrating 100 years. Whoever is making these decisions seems painfully unaware that these decisions are seriously hurting their sales. The fans are very vocal about what we want, all WB has to do is listen.
@@CerealAtMidnight - The UK 4K release includes the standard Blu-ray (40th Anniversary Edition from 2013) with all of the Special Features that you mention in this video.
@@CerealAtMidnight My man what's up whereas it's been a minute hey you know that the original 1978 TV show of Battlestar Galactica pilot movie is on 4k and I wanted to know whether or not you was going to be getting whereas you can break down the picture quality. I hope you will get it because who knows maybe Universe might do the whole entire series in 4k which really depends on the sell ✌️ peace.
Probably my favorite Bruce Lee movie!! I wish I could afford 4k but I'm content with my criterion collection blu-ray. I do find it disappointing when they can't do extra or blu-ray! I'll get a movie 4k with the blu-ray if it's OOP or just expensive.
Great video! I wish the lauded Blu-ray - the one with all of the extras - was shown. I went to Amazon immediately after and there are about 8,000 different versions of this film out there.
The 2004 DVD also had the Game Of Death documentary A Warriors Journey but Warner Bros lost the distribution rights hence why it's not on the Blu-ray in the UK but it is in other countries
Great review Heath. UK edition appears to have the extras on the Blu Ray - according to Amazon. I’m waiting for it to arrive in the mail so hoping that’s the case
The blu ray on the UK version is a copy of the 40th anniversary edition. It’s not based on the 4K restoration. I actually ordered the UK version, but cancelled when it was confirmed the blu ray was the 40th anniversary, which I already own.
I feel like Jim Kelly is telling the audience to take this as an exploitation flick when Williams tells Han he's "right out of a comic book." The Criterion BD set is probably my last stop for these movies, but I did make my family watch EtD on the actual anniversary day.
I said it last night on Rob's stream, but I would assume that there's no bluray because Criterion still has the rights, but yea there could have been a bluray with special features (don't think Criterion has the rights to thouse even though i don't know). and turns out that the Bluray in the UK set is the old bluray that's been out for ages, so imagine buying that thinking it's a new remaster and find out it's the one you proberly already have.
Is the Special Edition still edited?. Or have they put back the original cuts, from the one I saw back In the day. Is It just the 30th and 40th Anniversary cuts?. There Is another one due In September, that claims to be the Complete Movie. Comes with photos cards and poster, like the Arrow Release.
I'm excited to pick it up... never seen a Bruce Lee film it's time to see what its all about. PS > Agree with you Heath about HDR it can be a fine line. It's supposed to complement the film not show up and takeover to the point of being distracting! Thankfully most of the 4ks I pick up do not have that issue and HDR is balanced and appropriate.
Yes, according to a comment above. You get almost all of the Special Features (the audio commentary plus trailers and tv spots are missing) when redeeming the Digital code on Movies Anywhere.
Solid review. I kept the 2017 blu ray which comes with a badge and post cards stuffed in an envelope. And I also have the Criterion release. Too bad they don't want to take the time to celebrate the 50th anniversary by loading it with special features. Maybe in the 60th anniversary. Lol
It appears that in order to get the "complete" version of all the special features a consumer has to buy the Blu-ray, the Warner's 4k, the Criterion Box set, and the Bruce Lee @ Golden Harvest Box set. Whew, that's a lot of bread ( to use 70's jargon).
the Limited 3000 4K Bruce Lee Box Set by WB will have those extras , if i am seeing the information correctly . I got that arrow Bruce Lee Box the yellow set , there was 5 out of 10 discs would not play because they were region B coded , living in the US , which is coded region A , so i got a region free blu ray player , and those other 5 discs it was worth getting the extra player .
Bought the UK 🇬🇧 4k bluray today and I can confirm that it carries the regular bluray also with a load of special features, strange the US does not have the regular bluray..and the bluray extras.
hope you will review the arrow bruce lee individual releases that will be out next month in uk. also were ever able to pick up the crow and street fighter ii animated movie on blu ray?
Strange one re the lack of special features. I’m in the U.K. and whilst I’ve not picked this up yet, it seems that our version has two discs (the 4k film disc and a special features BR disk).
I got my copy last week, haven’t watched it yet but I’m looking forward to it. I’m not interested in special features anymore other than the odd boutique title so not a huge deal to me.
Thanks for the review, Heath! I'm definitely going to get this. I have a VHS copy of ETD, but never grabbed any other edition. Too bad this one doesn't have the special features. I also have plans to see it when it comes back to theaters on the 13th of this month. The film means more to me now that I finally joined a Jeet Kune Do school. I've been a seminar student for the art since 2013 but now I'm officially in the Bruce Lee lineage.
I'm very excited to see the film in its new format and own it for maybe the last time. As usual lately, I'm disappointed that I'm maybe about to spend 25 dollars or so to get what feels like an incomplete package. Including the blu ray and features could have been so easy. I'm tempted to vote with my wallet and not get it but.. I still want it.
We got the Blu Ray with the 4k in the UK and I think it has all the extras you're talking about. Why do they release different versions doesn't make sense.
Do you have Atmos set up ? I’ve had some movies that sounded great in Atmos others. I couldn’t here that much effect . Just curious Heath love the content you put out keep up the great work 👍
Fortunately I have never dived into this genre very much and I was gifted the Criterion set, bought the Arrow set recently and have the deluxe version of this preordered so I think I managed to acquire the best of the best as far as transfers and extras go. Excited to go in depth with this because I feel the martial arts genre is a huge hole in my film knowledge.
I'm a huge fan of Bruce Lee bot for me to upgrade it means that the disc has to go and beyond in quality and features. I was thinking to run and upgrade but knowing it missing all special features, I think i will simply wait. I already own the Criterion and regular BR and even though the transfer is an improvement, I think I'll just pass for now and wait until I can get it at a reduced price for sale.
I'd assume it's Warner's intent to continue to re-release titles like ETD. So the best way to get people to plunk down their hard earned $$$ AGAIN is to hold back on special features. Then, include those in a future mega-super-extra-special edition that costs $200+.
I just now noticed that Enter the Dragon does not have a 4K in the Arrow box-set (which is a must have for Bruce Lee fans, by the by), just a normal blu ray. So now I have to get this WB 4K!
Fantastic movie, superb picture and sound quality and great to have the theatrical version. I live in the UK and the version we have over here includes a 2nd disc (I believe it's the 40th anniversary Blu-ray version) with all the extra features...I don't know why WB failed to include this with the US release. We don't have Rio Bravo 4K (also by WB) in the UK yet (I'm hoping soon) but the US release of that appears to be the same as ETD ie. people like the picture and sound quality but there is no included Blu-ray and next to no extras...very disappointing and very poor value for money.
The silver lining is that if you redeem the Movies Anywhere code you can watch the old special features through that. Unfortunate that it wasn't included physically though.
@CerealAtMidnight Double checking the features of the 2013 disc and Movies Anywhere, most, but not all them are there. The two missing ones are the Paul Heller and Michael Allin commentary, and the trailers and TV spots.
Seeing this review late so not sure if this has been said lol, we have the extras in the UK on standard Bluray same package but two discs, wish WB 100 was replaced by 50 on the cover, were more interested in the movie and Bruce 50th. That said Arrow would have been better overall, imagine the extras then!! 😊
I saw review from someone from the UK , and theirs had a Blu Ray Disc included in this release , i don't if has what the earlier Blu Ray disc of this movie had ?
As others have said, the UK region B version comes complete with a blu-ray disc of the film with a bunch of extras (same as the old blu-ray I believe), so it’s a bit strange for it not to be included in the US region A version. Maybe a rights issue? be interesting to know.
@@Matta1979123 I hear you. I have the 40th anniversary twice. When it first came out, and again on the Arrow box set. The extras are the same. Which is why I cancelled the UK ETD. I actually haven’t upgraded to 4K, so specifically wanted the blu ray. Too bad the blu ray wasn’t a new transfer based off the new 4K restoration.
I must have been around 10 or 11 when I first saw this movie on Tv in the early 2000's my dad hyped up the Bruce Lee aspect of the movie. the whole atmosphere sucked me in from that point. I've always loved Enter the Dragon. Now that I have been forced to buy a new tv (first 4K btw) because my previous one just broke I will consider picking up the 4K disc.
Don't be sad to say it! We need to send a message about what we want. My only concern is that lower sales will be interpreted as a lack of interest by the studios, instead of understanding how they're crippling their own releases. For whatever reason, Warner Bros. does not seem to be listening to us.
Just bought this am disappointed there's no blu-ray included like in other 4K movies. Am also disappointed this is not in Dolby Vision which would have made it look better. I guess they cut corners to keep the cost down. Hopefully there will be another release of Enter The Dragon in the very near future with these additions
Warner really cut corners on this release. The film file is only 35+ gig lol. There is definately compression artifacts, they should have done seamless branching for both cuts to preserve the highest quality. Criterion original mono audio is higher quali ty aswell, not compressed disgused as lossless like Warners.
That trend started years ago with videogames. These days all releases of physical games are barebones, the "special" edition with skins, weapons, dlcs or whatever is included, is available as digital-only. (unless you buy the very expensive collector's edition, like happened with Halo 5, God of War, Starfield or Spider-man 2, but those versions don't include a disc, just a code to download the game) Hate to say it, but maybe these movie publishers will try to sell the special features on digital storefronts.
Sorry to break in with a non-Bruce Lee comment but the great director William Friedkin has passed. The director of both The French Connection & The Exorcist. Will be sorely missed.
I hope the 4K version is better than the Blu-ray copy. My Blu-ray copy is very pixely. It's my only blu-ray movie that looks this way. It looks like a computer generated copy.
It really is the best it's ever looked. The white uniforms on Hans gaurds pops off the screen with the hdr. The extra are annoying though. Warners have done zero work here. Arrows boxset puts this Warners release to shame in terms of extras.
I've been really disappointed with the last several WB releases, especially Vacation in 4K. The lack of special features is just inexcusable. While I do want to support these 4K releases with my money so that more films can come to 4K, I simply cannot do so with these WB100 releases.
Heath, great review. In the U.K. we DID get a BluRay but it was NOT the new 4K scan. They put in the old 40th anniversary BluRay which is exactly the disc included in the Arrow boxset ( Bruce at Golden Harvest) By the way, I think this is better than the arrow 4Ks as they seem a little dark. ETD just pops out of the box
It really frustrates me that these companies keep leaving off special features and BD discs. Here is my thought. I think companies like WB take us physical media collectors for granted. They know we want 4K and they also know that most likely we will have the older discs with special features. So the new collectors that do not already own Enter the Dragon, they just want the 4K and could care less about everything else. In my opinion, this is complete horse crap if this is true. We are the supporters and we will gladly give more money to them if they can be nice enough to give us everything. It’s almost like they are just throwing us a bone because they are “streamers” and we are the little people still living in the “physical” world. They hate us.

"Lalo" is not pronounced "Lay Low", think of "Fa-So-La." It's "La Low"
Weird way for Warners to "celebrate" their 100th anniversary by not including any special features and not even attempting to make any new ones
THIS!
That's caus they want you to spend your money on the collectors edition that comes out in a few weeks.

British 4k has 4k disc and blu ray with extras
The silver lining is that if you redeem the Movies Anywhere code you can watch the old special features through that. Unfortunate that it wasn't included physically though.
Has this been confirmed? Lots of special features get dropped from Movies Anywhere versions.
Yes, it is the same 2013 (40th Anniversary) Blu-ray which included lots of Special Features.
Good review and cool video Heath!👉😃👈
As others have said, the UK region B version comes complete with a blu-ray disc of the film with a bunch of extras (same as the old blu-ray I believe), so it’s a bit strange for it not to be included in the US region A version. Maybe a rights issue? be interesting to know.
The blu ray version on the UK release is just a copy of the 40th anniversary blu ray. It’s not a 1080p downscale of the 4K restoration.
Yeah, I thought that was likely the case. Still good to have the extras anyhow.
Yes, Warner UK releases almost always have the Blu-ray. This problem seems limited to the USA.
I got it at best buys for 9.99 what a steal!
I must have been around 10 or 11 when I first saw this movie on Tv in the early 2000's my dad hyped up the Bruce Lee aspect of the movie. the whole atmosphere sucked me in from that point. I've always loved Enter the Dragon. Now that I have been forced to buy a new tv (first 4K btw) because my previous one just broke I will consider picking up the 4K disc.
did it have reversible artwork
Nope
Sad to say but no special features= no buy. I can't support this new trend WB is setting by excluding the BluRay
Don't be sad to say it! We need to send a message about what we want. My only concern is that lower sales will be interpreted as a lack of interest by the studios, instead of understanding how they're crippling their own releases. For whatever reason, Warner Bros. does not seem to be listening to us.
The blu ray on the UK release is simply a copy of the 40th anniversary release.
Just bought this am disappointed there's no blu-ray included like in other 4K movies. Am also disappointed this is not in Dolby Vision which would have made it look better. I guess they cut corners to keep the cost down. Hopefully there will be another release of Enter The Dragon in the very near future with these additions
Not me watching this and thinking about my enter the dragon dvd where the film is with polish lektor or subtitles but extras are not 🙃
Warner really cut corners on this release.
(unless you buy the very expensive collector's edition, like happened with Halo 5, God of War, Starfield or Spider-man 2, but those versions don't include a disc, just a code to download the game)
Hate to say it, but maybe these movie publishers will try to sell the special features on digital storefronts.
Did you get the Arrow Bruce Lee Set?
I did not.
Enter the Dragon open the door for me, once inside Shaw Bros where waiting for me.
Sorry to break in with a non-Bruce Lee comment but the great director William Friedkin has passed. The director of both The French Connection & The Exorcist. Will be sorely missed.
Worthy Atmos remix???? Greetings from Munich
I hope the 4K version is better than the Blu-ray copy. My Blu-ray copy is very pixely. It's my only blu-ray movie that looks this way. It looks like a computer generated copy.
Oh man, this movie.. what an impact it made on 8 yr old me!
I ain’t getting it because of the lack of features. I’ll keep my old versions Warner
Heath, great review.
In the U.K. we DID get a BluRay but it was NOT the new 4K scan. They put in the old 40th anniversary BluRay which is exactly the disc included in the Arrow boxset ( Bruce at Golden Harvest)
By the way, I think this is better than the arrow 4Ks as they seem a little dark.
We would not have mortal combat if not for enter the dragon
1st time I bought ENTER THE DRAGON on VHS & it cost $75.00🤑😆🤨
If you're a purist, you'd just stick to Laserdisc.
Bit rot city.
