Masterful tutorial. I’m just getting started cutting some of my concert footage together. You really lay it all out succinctly and perfectly. Really appreciated!
I’m stepping up my TH-cam game and I am beyond grateful for this video. Thank you for taking the time to help us create better content and help our viewers enjoy the videos even more!
I am currently researching tricks of recording to start a channel with my daughter and I found this to be the most informative and easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for your video! It answered a bunch of questions I have on editing my second camera in for the first time. One thing I would suggest is to add text to the screen with the keyboard shortcuts you described and/ or add them to the description box so we can find them more easily. For us newbies, learning all of this can turn into a bit of a alphabet soup with all the keyboard shortcuts to try to remember. Thanks again!
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!!! I had shot a thing with my iPhone and GoPro and a mic and didn't know how to make it all work. Your video guided me thru the process, thanks for making it super clear, really thank.
Nice one! This was super clear and helpful, thanks! Going to try this on a vid for making a rigid heddle loom. Really appreciate you taking the time to put this together,
This was super cool. What do you recommend for a lighting setup that is best for people of color? I travel full-time around the world. I don't have a permanent setup. I am mobile so I need something straightforward and simple. I have 3 lights. Could you tell me what the best positioning for the light is? My wife had Final Cut Pro but I don't think we can both use it. My wife and I have a youtube travel channel that is doing much better than my own. I want to get my own thing going.
Thanks for watching. As far lighting it depends on your situation. This video was lit using the gear in this video: th-cam.com/video/k6rehecniAE/w-d-xo.html If you need something more portable, I'd look at something like the Nanlite Pavotube: geni.us/m8HuQX3 Hope that helps 👊🏽
Thanks so much for sharing...really has helped me out when editing multi cam especially your tip for adding the main camera 2nd & detaching the audio. Best wishes, Ben
I'm only halfway into your video / tutorial and BOOM - What a straight forward, easy to do and adopt strategy to do multi-camera angles! Thank you so much for that! I'll be sure to continue watching (giving a like a subscribe as well! :)) Now let me test this out in my multi-cam video I'm working on!
Thank you, your video was very helpful and answered my question!! I was able to get the gist of what I needed to do right away, as a thank you for your work I let the whole thing run tho :)
This video was so helpful thank you. Trying to edit a video for my channel that has a laptop screen recording and was trying to figure out how to sync my video with that laptop recording. Guess it would work similarly to the multi angle thingy. Thanks again
love the video, thank you. I hear you say you are using the a6400. I am having the hardest time transferring video from my Sony a6400 to my iPad pro (or any other iOs device). What do you recommend... how do you do it (I can only transfer via SD card to Windows PC). Thank you!
The Sony Imaging Edge app should work. I did a video here on the iphone. But it should work the same on the iPad: th-cam.com/video/nzI63AA4A4E/w-d-xo.html
Technically no. It’s get complicated after two. You could edit the first two angles, export them as one file. And then add the the third in a new project. But at that point i think it’s just best to get Final Cut Pro
When I'm shooting I make sure to clap before I start. That way I have a large spike in the audio to line it up. Otherwise I try to find a similar loud noise in the audio and use that to line it up
I'm assuming this would work as well with 3 cameras? I'm trying to record my son's soccer game and I'm thinking of mounting 2 cameras on 13 ft tripods to span half the field with a third camera on a tripod at field level to track the action. I think it could be pretty cool to see all the action and this might make it pretty easy to put everything together after the fact. Plus learning how to detach the audio could be nice and great so I can freely talk.
3 cameras would be kinda tough because you can only have two videos tracks in iMovie. Technically you could edit the first two videos and then export and bring it back into the program. Then add the 3rd camera. But to be honest, once you need to edit more than two streams, it’s best to move to something like Final Cut Pro that has multi cam editing.
@@CreativeTechLab thank you for the heads up. I might look at that. It’s a pet project for my kids and it’s fun to have good videos of their playing days.
@@CreativeTechLabthanks for this explanation. I was wondering the same thing about more than 2 cameras angles. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
Thanks Leo, well presented and it's solved a couple of problems for my 2-camera live music videos. But I have a glitch that I still can't seem to get around. Whenever I jump between camera 1 and camera 2 in order to see what's doing what I cannot see camera 2 in the iMovie large monitor screen top left. All it will ever show me is camera 1. I'm using iMovie 10.1.14 running Catalina on my iMac. Any tips? Cheers...Duncan
Hi thanks for watching. Not exactly sure why the other clip wouldn't play. Only thin I know is that whatever clip is on top will be the one that shows. And you need to have your settings set to cutaway to be able to work with a multiple cam style edit.
One Question, when doing the multicam video shoot, should I make video in one shoot even when I mess up couple times in the video and later edit it? or shoot a video while doing start recording and stopping and so on.
Hey thanks for watching. I find shooting one continuous clip way easy to edit. That way you're only syncing the clips once. And you can cut what you need to on both clips, the way I edited in this video. Hope that helps!
A third camera becomes more complicated in iMovie. To do it you'd have to edit the 1st two clips, render it, and then add the third angle in another project. But at that point I think it would be better to move to Final Cut Pro. It would be a lot easier.
Thanks for the video. But if you detach the audio, is there a way to delete the main clip and use the second camera angle and the original detached audio for the movie? Even if the second camera angle is the entire length of the audio every time I delete the main camera angle it all gets deleted. You can't do things like transitions to the second camera angle. The second camera video was way better so I used it for the movie. The audio was recorded from the first camera. Thanks! Blue Has anyone figured this out?
I think the problem u may be running into is that the audio is still connected to the main audio clip. Trying moving the audio up to the second clip and see if that works.
Unfortunately no. You would have to edit the first two angles and then export and add a third layer. For that kind of effort I would recommend upgrading to Final Cut Pro. For these reasons as well: th-cam.com/video/Nx4cDi1N-VQ/w-d-xo.html
Awesome explanation- thank you very much for this - like others - just getting started on TH-cam and was wondering how to get the best out of a couple of old phones and using multiple angles. Thanks very much - Subscribed & Saved! :)

Love your tutorial brother. This really helps me understand better to use imovie with different angles in sync. Stay safe. Peace, from Singapore.
You cant do this kind of editing in ipad imovie am i right?
I'm not sure. I haven't edited on the ipad in a while. I'm sure there's a way, but it may be more tedious trying to cut multiple clips at a time.
Perfect tutorial!
Glad you think so!
