I once asked a class of ten year olds to write about their “special place”, where they could just “be” and feel good for a while. Every single one of them knew what I meant. Another time, a six year old told me that she sometimes liked to just sit in the garden and think about how beautiful the world is; her schoolteacher had been concerned about her being “distracted” in class 💖.

What commands the demand of this dreadful dream?
Black night nears rushing in
like a hunted mare
Shivering beside an obsidian abandonment
an abyss below memories tragic hiss
Slung sleep drunk eyes
up to a slithering synapse ceiling,
a white flash collapses on
a desire for darkness divine
sparks a sudden surrender inside
sharpening the sight
aiming alien senses,

A voiceless word wails.
And it asks,
"you - there sleeping, do you wish to know, the revealing?"
No. Shut up. I am busy. Leave me alone. I have work in the evening.
I could go below back to the places I know
I could go on out to the streets underneath
I could hold closed the door
I could frown, scream and falter
I could catch the bus back to the past
could ship out my letters, my never-quite there
I could hang up my scuffles, my fights, my wishes and
then,
I could step into a clear breadth of day,
a shivering sudden thing I would hope
to come upon me, and gift me, grant me
that, that flavour, or taste that life, in it's lingering
had lost it's grace, it's style, it's cool,
all the sights and senses of that perfect peculiar afternoon
...moments, moments burn those damn quotes,
hand me my boots
hit the cold rough road I am in the search of my soul,
the hunting horizon heralds henceforth,
death does await while life thou opens
it's gate...
