You're going to love it! I'm about to take mine apart and clean everything (found a couple aphids!) and then start a new round of everything. Enjoy the process!
Yeah, the DIY route is definitely an option! I think their target market for this is people who don't want to or don't have the time/space to DIY. Definitely a good system-my first time growing completely hydroponically, and I've really enjoyed watching the process!
You're right that the germinating box is over-the-top expensive for a plastic box with a lid. The product is good but I'm finding significant hidden costs at every turn.
I totally agree. The product is exceptional but certainly pricey. I think the germination box should come with the purchase at this price point. The dolly to roll it around is also $150, I might make a video on making my own dolly haha. But I guess at the price point for the Gardyn, their target market is people who don't want to bootstrap it on the DIY route.
I don’t know if the price is worth it especially when you still have to pay for the app to get the BEST experience when you should be able to do that without the subscription
If you don't pay for a membership, you can still download the app and use it for the basic features. This is from their website: Please Note, Non-members only have water scheduling automated, manual controls for lights and water, access to the plant book and can purchase plants in-app for $4.99 per yCube. Non-members also have to pay shipping and for plant food re-orders. But I do agree, it seems they have some of the best features locked behind the paywall, and I have major subscription fatigue these days. I wish more things would just let you buy it and not have a recurring bill every month.
Mine came today and I just finished setting it up. Assembly was so simple. Excited to see some plants in the coming weeks.

Interesting , always seen videos of those kind of systems from home made hydroponics

@ right! I should still be able to enjoy all features without paying for a subscription each month
