    I do love the vehicle am glad I own how ever I feel it's more of a trail rig due the whale belly. Mine hangs up alot on the under belly. I agree the over drive in this rig is amazing. Nice video and review.

    After waiting for 3 months on my Phoenix back-order I finally got it. Changed he wheels and tires (exactly the same wheels you are using and Pro-Line Trenchers) and put some brass on the front wheels only. The rig is amazing sometimes I mess up because I get overconfident, but its a great rig. Love it, a 10 in my book. Also got a Toyota grill from ebay that looks awesome!

      Agreed, the Phoenix doesn't need much beyond a good set of tires.

    Started my Phoenix build a few days ago and getting ready to start on Bag E so I think I have the most difficult parts of the build behind me now. This is a first build for me, new to the hobby so it has been a little bit of a challenge but I have found that by taking my time and watching videos of those that have gone before me, I am getting through it. I have bought components and hope I made choices that will work for me as intended; solid and dependable low speed rock crawling. What I have gotten so far are the Hobbywing XERUN AXE 540L 2800KV Motor, Hobbywing XERUN AXE R2 FOC ESC, Reefs 900 Servo and Reefs RAW100 Mini Servo & Mounts for OD and Dig duties. The 900 Servo is most likely huge overkill but the 500 was out of stock. I had also considered Tekin for the servos but ended up going with Reefs. Please feel free to comment on choices made, it won’t hurt my feelings too much. Will look at different tires and wheels for replacement and I appreciate your thoughts on the JConcepts Tusks and will put them on the shortlist. Thanks so much for everything that you do to help everyone, really appreciated. BTW - My wife enjoys listening to all your commentary.

      You've pretty much gone withe "premier" stuff for electronics, you should have zero issues-- if anything, they're all far more powerful than what you need. But better to have it and not need it, right? IMO, 2800kv is a little spicy, but FOC will help tame it, and wheelspeed for bumps is never a bad thing. Keep Tusks at the top of the list-- whenever you can get 'em, get 'em. The recently tested Jetko Conquerors are also VERY good, if a bit expensive.

      @@CrawlerCanyon Thanks for the comments and suggestions, I am hoping for “zero” issues. Keep up the great work.

    Still on the fence about the Phoenix, have never owned a Vanquish rig and have not really seen allot of great reviews on this one. Price here in Canada is another negative thing. Thanks for a great run review of this one.

    Great rig and video, thanks! For swirlability…. Would it have gotten a 10 if in RWD instead of using the dig locked and 33% OD?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With higher kv going to it, probably. With the 1900 and the truck's massive gear reduction, it doesn't do much in RWD. This is probably the only rig I own that could actually use say something 2800kv or higher. But I already had the 1900 (stolen from the CFX-W) and I'm too cheap to plunk down 80-100 bucks for another motor.

      I'm 99% sure it's a 15T. I could gear WAY up on 1900kv, as the ESC and motor never even get warm-- but I'm kinda into the superb low-speed control to be had by being undergeared.

  • @TinyTiresRC

    Have to agree with you on the Phoenix. I did manage to get the mediocre stock tires to work by changing the inner foams. Found myself liking the PLASTIC wheels.. I never like plastic beadlocks. The Phoenix has, after one trail run, become the favorite of the 8 scale trucks that I have.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I haven't completely given up on the OE tire. I think they'd be a lot better (for me) on some heavier wheels, and at the very least they're probably a good candidate for hair buns-- I can always use a second set of "let's go drive through a pond" tires.

    Nice! Can share what colour paint code is that?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this body I used Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Coating, available at most any autoparts store. Works every bit as well as polycarb-specific paints. It's plain 'ol "silver," Duplicolor HVP103.

    How do the j concepts tusks compare to proline hyrax performance wise? Assuming you have used hrax..

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't speak to the efficacy of any ProLine tire as I've been under a strict, self-imposed embargo of ProLine products for going on 15 years now. What I can tell you is Hyrax + dual stages = 2 full sets of Tusks, and the Tusks under the Phoenix are absolutely outstanding, so they're a bargain. I could never in good conscience recommended ProLine product to under circumstance.
