    Going through your old videos, and it's funny seeing $5 metals mentioned when you guys have progressed to $170 jack fin poppers. The next GT trip you do you should get a $5 metal with a decent single on it and see if you can land a monster GT on it!

    Hey there,
    I'm a real big fan of your videos! I've learned tons from you guys and I think your channel puts out some of the much more educational and well edited stuff out there! You guys are probably also the chillest dudes to hang out with! Popped down to the tackle store and bought 4 metals (halcos and raiders) and bought a new spheros! Hopefully it'll work out for me!
    Cheers!

      Totally agree with you guys on your new video about changing our ways. The worst are people bagging even the small fish! They're killing the future stocks! At the end of the day, human over population is the cause of so many problems and education is the key!
      I hope you fellas keep up the good work. If this old generation is lost, maybe we can get to the younger generation, who will be the FUTURE

    Hey Lads, love the videos! what sort of rods and reels do you recommend for a beginner?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how much coin you have, how big the fish you're going for are and lure size/line class. For the average Tuna/Mackerel here in Aus that you can connect with from shore you'd be lookin at rods in the PE3-5 range 8'6 - 10'6, reel Daiwa 4000 - 6500 size Shimano 10k - 18k size. You can go lighter for them or heavier but it's all upto you. The middle of the range is a 9'6 PE4 rod with a Daiwa 5000 or Shimano 14000 size reel. Can't go wrong with that setup!

    Do you connect braid to lure straight? I fish for GT,s land based in Hawaii, a lot of rocks and reef. I've been using 100lb mono leader, connected to braid w/ FG knot. I haven't seen that new Rapala, does bbb it come in 2-3 oz ?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +keale s Currently using FG knot as well but with more like 50lb-60lb leader for the type of fish we're going for (bump it up to 80lb-100lb if GT are lurking). The XXX weighs 54g which is almost 2oz? is it 30g in an oz? It's a weird thing with divers where they don't seem to swim well in heavy weights (unless they scale up the whole lure along with the weight) so for 14cm, 54g is pretty good. But would be great if someone made a small 70-80g diver that still swims!

    Do you use steel leaders after your mono at all for toothy fish like the king? Or can you go through your rigging set up

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If we know there are mackerel around we'll put on wire. But if using a heavy setup going for GT with massive lures sometimes we don't put wire as it seems they don't snip big lures very often compared to small tuna lures. Our setup is Braid to Leader with FG knot, Leader to Swivel with Uni knot with 4-6 wraps, Swivel to Splitring of the lure. If wire it goes leader - swivel or solidring - wire - swivel - splitring of lure.

    Gday boys. I recently bought an x rap long cast shallow in wahoo (sinking), I heard that these lures are legendary but I would like to know how to work them, and what theyre good for. Do you twitch it or do you sweep it like a stickbait, im quite confused. I also got a sxr-12 in ghost so what do you think about this pair? Cheerrrrs

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate, the SXR12 you'll want to upgrade the hooks if you're going for Tuna or anything over about 10kg. Even the Longcast 12s (can't remember exact product name) with the singles have bent out on us a few times so def worth getting some better hooks on there.
      The longcast Shallow 14 is pretty easy stickbait to use, you can even just put the tip down and medium speed retrieve it the whole way back in (if you're low enough to the water it should kick side to side). but I usually have two methods for any lure, one is for when there's fish around and one is no fish around... For no fish around with that xrap, I'll cast her out and let it sink (if sand bottom the whole way down otherwise just about half way to the bottom and then fast wind it up until it's on the surface, at this point I just sweep it the whole way back (making sure i can feel the lure swimming with each sweep). If there's fish around and busting up just cast out and as soon as it hits the water I'll go tip down medium/fast wind it in with a constant speed (so they have a steady target).
      We've hooked everything from Kingfish to Tuna, GT, Mackerel, etc. on them so I actually think pretty much anything will hit em! This fish - th-cam.com/video/Oyo2mskypZE/w-d-xo.html was on that exact lure.

    hi after watching your videos i went looking for the Rapala sxr14 but only managed to find the sxrl14. Not sure what the l stands for and google is no help.

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      www.rapala.com.au/lures/x-rap-long-cast/ SXRL is their new version of the SXR. The L stands for "long cast" which maybe sounds better in theory but they've removed the weight shift from the lure, finished them slightly differently and they are heavier and sinking.
      www.rapala.com/x-rapandreg-saltwater/X+Rap+Saltwater.html The old SXR casts nearly as well even though it's lighter and it looks and swims amazing, but that said we've caught a hell of a lot of fish on the new ones so you can't really go wrong with either.

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joshua Ritschny Hi mate, they're not the first lure we usually reach for when going for a spin but they definitely work. Seem to hook GT on them a lot but had a few spanish and longtail hits and misses on them as well. They cast well and are pretty hardy. So they're a good lure for sure but just don't get me sykd to put them on for some reason. I think i just gravitate towards silver/reflective lures and their matte finish doesn't do it for me. Fish prolly don't care but i do haha.

    • @joshuaritschny9285

      +MorningTide Fishing thanks. Haha. Only recently started getting into Lure fishing and they were the first ones I bought. I am based in Perth and Tailor (Bluefish) really seem to love em. Also think it is one of the better and cheaper lures out there given they are about $7. Loving your videos guys. Awesome stuff youve done over the years. Really captures every fishermans dream.
      Also is the pure black reel in the background a Penn Conflict?
      Ps: go for the marlin. Would be awesome to watch =)

      +Joshua Ritschny Reel in the BG is the 8000H dogfight. Just bought it and i think i got about 800m of 40lb (actual breaking at more like 60lb) line on it. I'm going for the marlin now but donno when i'll connect with him... at least stand a chance with this new setup.

      Hi mate it's a "surecatch knight" I think you can order Haclo Twistys, Spanyid Raiders and Surecatch Knights from Australia and they will send that to you in Europe but the shipping maybe a bit expensive. Have a look at some Aussie sites like "motackle" and "Ray and Annes" and "BCF" I'm sure one of them will deliver OS.

    • @vjanda1
      @vjanda1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MorningTide Fishing Thanks mate. You're right, shipping is well expensive :(
      I fish for bft in Adriatic btw. Up to now I only drifted. Decided to have a go at spinnig. Bought Shimano Kaibitsu 120g popping rod. What size lure do you recon is best for juvenile bft 40-100lbs?
      Tight lines!

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tuna we get here are different then the ones you get. Biggest the ones we target grow to is about 80lbs and what we'd call a good fish is more like 50lbs. So for these tuna small lures are good 14cm and less seems to do really well but they will hit big lures too. I think that it's more about putting something shinny infront of their face then anything else. So if you can put urself in a place where you can get a cast at one I think that's the hardest part done. The lures we talk about in our "what's in the box" films are all pretty good for Tuna so worth checking them out as well...

If you can't wait for it we're using Tas Line at the moment www.bustedfishing.com/#!/Tasline-Braid/c/14190036/offset=0&sort=normal it has pretty crazy thickness to breaking strength, which is prolly the main thing we look for when choosing braid.
