    In my opinion, Within You Without You is one of the essential tracks on Sgt Peppers. It is beautiful and spiritual. And the "sitars" are exquisite.

    According to Ringo Starr Abbey Road was an album where they wanted to be together and put together a last effort for the fans. They wanted to be there and they worked hard, but they also knew that that would be it for them. Their lives were changing they were going on to do their own thing, but it was more of a work effort and challenge then it was them being a group of friends working together. This is according to Ringo.

    Well all right! This my favorite video you guys have done! Comparing Beatles albums is like comparing Corvettes. You really can't go wrong.
    Great Beatles commercials!
    My picks starting from number one: Revolver; Abbey Road; Rubber Soul; Sgt. Pepper; White Album; Magical Mystery Tour; Help!; A Hard Day's Night; Let it Be; Beatles for Sale; With the Beatles; Please Please Me; Yellow Submarine.
    And I completely agree with Paul's assessment of Revolver. Not only is it my favorite Beatles album, it's my favorite album, period. Tommy great line about "meddling sitars!"

    This is something I think about a lot. But my preference changes on my top five. I go with what I listen to the most as of right now. Abbey Road, Revolver, Let It Be, A Hard Day’s Night and Rubber Soul.
    But seriously, with the exception of Yellow Submarine any of the albums can make my top five any day. I love Please Please Me. Paul you hit the the nail on the head with that example and Crystal I’m with you on Let It Be. It has grown on me over the years and it’s my go to album. Great ranking!!!
    Now let’s do the Led Zeppelin albums.

    So the week I go off on vacation is when y’all post this? Fine, be that way.
    Overall, I agree with at least one point each of you has made, and nobody seems to be completely off their nut, not that I was expecting that… I’m not even going to try to rank these albums. Part of my problem is that I don’t think of the early albums as “albums”-they are groups of individual songs to me. “Ooo, that’s the one with I Saw Her Standing There!” It isn’t until Rubber Soul that I think of these as actual, bona fide albums, so that will make ranking them hard. Yellow Submarine also won’t appear at the bottom of my list because of a technicality: as far as I’m concerned, it’s an EP, and I don’t include EPs when I rank albums. That being said, I have to give it marks simply because it has Hey Bulldog, which is one of my favorite Beatles tracks.
    And as much as I hate to disagree with Tommy, Let It Be Naked is ten times better than Let It Be. Yes, Phil Spector managed to make an album out of the bits and pieces he was given, but he didn’t make a Beatles album. I always hated Long and Winding Road, for example, until I heard the version on Naked.

    What a fun video.
    I love all of Paul’s backstory about where and when he heard albums. My list would be peppered with similar stories of borrowing records from my neighbors and so on. (My parents were utterly indifferent to the Beatles or records in general).
    I enjoy the US Help film soundtrack but I’m kind of a film score nerd.
    Abbey Road has always been my number one. As Paul alluded to, Abbey Road only rose in my estimation after seeing the state of things during the Get Back sessions.
    It also occurred to me that during the span of time when the Beatles were recording, the whole concept of ALBUMS was changing dramatically. Some of the early albums were conceived purely to get product on the shelf for Christmas or whatnot. (Looking at you Beatles For Sale…it’s right there in the title!)

    • @AsItShouldBePodcast
      @AsItShouldBePodcast  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah, Beatles For Sale is without a doubt a case of those guys being dragged into a studio prematurely simply because an album was "needed" for the Christmas market. If the whole album was a set of originals as good as the ones they already have on it then that album would rank far higher for me.

  • @TomCwimpRock
    @TomCwimpRock ปีที่แล้ว +1

    “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” has always been my all time favorite album by anybody ever since it came out, but for many years now, “Please Please Me” is the Beatle’s album that I reach for most often, but I’m oriented completely to the US Capitol releases, (“Introducing The Beatles”, “The Early Beatles”). - it just has the freshness, innocence, and spontaneity, that always makes it such an uplifting listen.. And it’s the only Beatle’s album that, in my opinion - the cover versions hold up next to the originals…. The rest of the albums, fluctuate wildly in order of preference - although the Capitol release, “The Beatles Second Album” has always been my least favorite… even less than “Yellow Submarine”, due to all the so-so covers.. Nice video guys! 👍

    • @AsItShouldBePodcast

    Great lists, but I think I agree with Crystal's the most with the exception of the placement of "Let It Be". I love "Revolution 9" so much I made a full video on it. lol I have been staying away from The Beatles for awhile because I wanted to make a ranking video and wanted to listen again with a clean palate. It's tough otherwise, to rank the earlier albums because I'm so familiar with the U.S. versions. I've heard "Sgt. Pepper's" described as "tea & crumpets" and I think that's a good description of why I wouldn't put it so high on the list. My better half heard it and said it sounded like " a children's album". Is the inevitable contrarian comment coming that puts "Yellow Submarine" at the top of the list? Thanks again for the great shoutout!

    • @AsItShouldBePodcast
      @AsItShouldBePodcast  ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember your video where you cut quickly to Terry and he said exactly that about Sgt Pepper. On one hand I recoil in deeply offended horror, on the other hand I can actually kind of understand what he's saying. Of course the "tea & crumpets" vibe is one of the many things I love about Pepper. Also one of the things I love about later 60s Kinks records.

    People need to get their hearing checked. Don't buy into the "normie" popularity hive-mind.
    Be objective, listen to each album, then give each song a number rating, then add up a score for each album.
    You might be shocked which albums come in first. I gave bonus points to The White Album since it was a double album but had too much filler, otherwise it would be 2nd to last, but the good songs on it surpassed Sgt' Pepper's. 'Let It Be' has two good songs, the rest were average or below average at best. Sorry if any of you are offended by my rankings.

    My favorite Beatle album is Let it Be. It was the only Beatle record my Mom had when I was a kid, she said my Uncle stole all her Beatle Albums when they both moved out of my Grandparent's house 🤷‍♀️. She loved that album and would play that record over and over and over. I hated it for a good long time and when I finally listened to again at about 19, was like, alright I get it, now I understand why she played it all the time, Mom's right. #2 is Hard Day's Night. Need a couple months to sort out and rank the rest, but definitely know I'd take off She's Leaving Home and Within You Without You. I gotta split but wanted to also add, love the commercials.

    I was suprised about some of the choices but that's all good. I totally agree with Revolver being even more awesome if they had replaced Yellow Submarine ( 1 of my least favourite songs by them) with either Rain or Paperback writer. If they released the single Yellow Submarine/ Paperback writer before Revolver and put Rain on it (after say Good day sunshine because sun/rain) who good would that be? Also Strawberry Fields Forever/ Penny Lane on Sgt. Pepper would be amazing, i'd keep Within You Without You because the album needs a George song and i'd get rid of When i'm 64 and Lovely Rita.

      It's hilarious that you can pretty much count on Yellow Submarine and Beatles for Sale to be at the bottom of just about every list.

    For a while I’ve had the hot take that Sgt Peppers didn’t do much for me. Is it good? Yeah, it’s solid. I just found it overly indulgent and not super memorable outside of its production and charm. I tend to prefer the more back to basics stuff like White Album and Abbey Road but Sgt Peppers has its moments. Would still probably give it like a 7/10 but I can see why people love it so much.

    Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane could have been included on Sgt Pepper without cutting any songs. The running time of side one is only 19:36, and side two 20:02. If Strawberry Fields Forever was included on side one and Penny Lane on side two the running times for each side would be 23:41 and 23:02. I know some engineers like to keep a side to around 23 mins to preserve sound quality, but side four of the White Album is 24:41, and side one of Abbey Road is 24:53.
    The biggest problem for me would be where to put them in the listing.

      Sgt. Pepper with 15 songs, i like that! Strawberry Fields Forever between Getting Better and Fixing A Hole ( Lennon song between 2 McCartney songs) and Penny Lane opening side 2 maybe?

    I'm such a Beatles fan that I don't think any of these albums are "bad" or anything like that. Just which ones I like the best or least. So here goes.
    13. Yellow Submarine (It is most people's least favorite after all.)
    12. Let It Be
    11. A Hard Day's Night
    10. Please Please Me
    9. With The Beatles
    8. Abbey Road (Gets to me this is often considered these days as their best album since it's the one album of theirs I found a big difficult to get into as a whole at first. I think the reason why is the same reason Paul had about Sgt Pepper, and that's the Sgt Pepper movie. Some of the songs on Abbey Road I first heard in that movie, so it kinda ruined it for me. Ha. I can get into it as a whole now, though, and this is where I place it. And yes, I do love that medley at the end. Certainly a great way for them to go out even though I don't think it was initially intended that way.)
    7. Magical Mystery Tour
    6. Help!
    5. Beatles For Sale (SO underrated, this is, I think. Maybe my first favorite Beatles album, believe it or not.)
    4. Rubber Soul
    3. Sgt Pepper
    2. Revolver (Maybe the album I've played more than any other album by anyone. Odd, since it's not my no. 1, but still.)
    1. The White Album (My pick for the greatest album ever. By anyone. It's a ride from beginning to end. Yeah, tracks like Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 may not work on their own, but as part of the album experience, it ABSOLUTELY works. It has everything I'd want in an album. Rock, ballads, beauty, ugliness, light, shade, humor, anger, horror, experimentation, great vocals, great guitars etc. Take even just one track off it, it doesn't work. The tracks compliment each other, yet they're so varied. A perfect album to me, really. And what a cover too! ;) )

      Nah, the 1978 movie wasn't my reason for my Sgt Pepper placement, I was just mentioning how I'd first been exposed to that stuff. That said, I can definitely understand why it would color your opinion. Although it's curious that the movie affects your ranking of Abbey Road but not Pepper.

    • @ErnestIII83
      @ErnestIII83 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AsItShouldBePodcast Well, I heard those Pepper songs as they were on the original album before I saw the movie, so it didn't really affect that. Took me a while longer to get to Abbey Road, I guess. Ha

Peppers should be up there as well
