Well you also have a force-a-nature scout who has both the laugh taunt(or the stock taunt for the scatterguns) and a script that puts some emoticon and/or “EZ” in the chat bound to one key.
Best part of Special Powder is the fact that it's a clean OC, so there is literally no downsides to having it other than the occasional being shot into the atmosphere when trying to jump strafe away from bugs. Also, you can conserve the momentum from either a grapple launch or special powder using b-hops, making him even more mobile. Special powder go crazy.
*"A runner who sprints a race may go fast, but a runner who paces themselves will go far."* So many people could afford to hear this. It isn't everyday when you watch a youtube video that's as thought-provoking and inspiring as this.
A good takeaway from this video is that an "scout" type of character is not a character that "gets there fast", but rather a character that "gets there first". The scout is the first one to see the enemy and as such is the one that can most evaluate the game strategy. Being able to single out the backlines, or stall the point from spawn is a plus, but a "scout" is doing best if they are using their resources to give advantage to the rest of your team through intel, disruption and exploiting opportunities.
I have no idea why Sombra isn't included in this video because intel and disruption are her bread and butter. I'd argue she is the best Overwatch character for team recon.

As a Titanfall 2 player, it's interesting to see the correlations between Scout and Ronin. Both have insane DPS, high speed, low heath and a high skill floor while main difference (aside from size) is that Ronin's speed comes from his dashes rather than his base speed. ...I should probably pick up the other TF2 now that I think about it

DRG Scout has one other major claim to fame in both his team and amongst the other scouts, his range. He typically has the most accurate primaries in the game which when combined with his speed and tools in his kit, to eliminate high value targets while kiting a swarm

He specializes in single-target elimination because he doesn't do groups and has the mobility to get in, eliminate his target, and get out. But by nature, Scout does not excel at damage of just about any form. Other classes do better against groups and against most single targets simply because they have higher overall damage. Scout's weapons are meant for personal defense and precision, idk how that really factors in.
@@zer0her048 Think there's a bit of confusion here. Sustained DPS? No one trumps Gunner. Burst DPS? Nothing really compares to AI Stability Engine, Bullets of Mercy, Supercooling Chamber, and *especially* Embedded Detonators, the highest DPS secondary period. Engineer's Overdrive Booster and Hyper Propellant are pretty close, though. Really the issue with Scout's identity is all his uniquely powerful offensive options are relegated behind the timegated Overclock gacha. If you don't get lucky, all his weapons are rather plinky-dinky, and you're mostly reliant on your grenades and teammates.

DRG's Scout has the only movement tool that lets you go faster unconditionally Driller's Drills have more optimised pathing, but don't work as well when going upwards Gunner's Zipline is slow by design, used as a defensive tool Engineer's platforms don't give any speed, just allow more speed by reducing fall damage if you land on them 2. Scout's Boomstick overclock easily makes him the fastest of the 3, especially when you remember that he can mitigate fall damage no matter how high up you go and without any prior setup using the grapple hook
If I had to add something to the DRG scout, it’s that his weapons and typically the quietest in the field, compared to the constant flow of driller’s flamer and cryo cannon, the gunner’s sheer amount of DAKKA! And engine’s grenade launcher and sentries. With him usually being found in the quieter outer circle of a team, Scout’s weapons seem a little quieter than most. So they’re usually the one tasked with listening, listening through the music, to the low rumbles of the cave life. And reporting if you hear anything like the low rumble of a bulk, the electric charge of a warden, the chirping of stingtails and septic spreaders. You’re the team’s ears, and your flairs provide them with eyes. Although, I will admit it’s a little hard to listen through the killer soundtrack sometimes. It’s amazing to see DRG on lists that were so heavily dominated by TF2 and over watch having competitions against each other. Keep it up man!
@@dwarf2155 Stingtails are scorpions that can hook you towards them (as annoying as it sounds) and septic spreaders are ranged glyphids that shoot toxic sludge at you. Both have distinct sounds that indicate when they're about to attack.
@dwarf2155 Stingtails are some harmless fellas that displace you, usually into the entire swarm overrunning your position. And the other, the septic spreader, is the most demonic, deadliest, and utterly devastating enemy you can get…. On exactly one gamemode, salvage operation, otherwise they just hurt. A LOT .
@@dwarf2155Word of advice when fighting stingtails: when you hear their cry (idk why but to me it sounds like they’re saying “MAMA!”), quickly sidestep and jump. That’s usually enough to dodge the hook. If you do get hooked, immediately run the opposite way you got hooked because there’s probably glyphids near him.

A real-world scout is defined by caution. Your job is to move ahead of everyone else to see what the enemy is up to, and in practice that means you're going blindly into an area likely to be dense with enemies, with equipment and numbers that are nowhere near enough to survive a firefight if you get caught. Speed, stealth, and smarts are all you have.
In DRG I like to embody the glass cannon philosophy which in fights let's me basically do surgical strikes against important enemies. Wardens and those red goopy bastards I forgot the name of in particular. Freeze, grapple, shotgun, pick, and you've just removed half a dreadnought.

Blinks are much more useful in moving in and out of cover, which is more common on overwatch maps than tf2. They're also good at closing distance to longer range characters, because you don't have to worry about getting oneshot by a sniper as much if you can literally teleport every few seconds. Scout is only really better at avoiding projectiles and doing burst damage, since run speed and double jumps combo well for passive evasiveness, and the shotgun either does a lot of damage or misses compared to pulse pistols.
I heard something about how the tf2 mercs are all the grandparents of overwatch heros and now I need a head canon on overwatch heros somehow being related to dwarves in outer space
the points you're evoking about the scout from drg are accurate, but most of the time we're all chill and sometimes we take it slow to find some hidden objects here and there (comp gold, bittergems, beer mats) its a great game overall with lovely devs, don't hesitate to buy it, for the price is worth it ^^

I think low skill floor is correct - that means the lowest skill player will perform very bad. A high skill floor would imply that the lowest skill player is still relatively good. That’s based on the use of high skill ceiling meaning there’s lots of room to grow and improve to master the character and perform extremely well, and a low skill ceiling would mean that even if you’re number 1 in the world you wouldn’t perform as well with that character as someone with similar skill playing a better character with a higher ceiling. The floors and ceilings are limiting factors on both ends (as far as I’ve ever understood it anyway. Maybe I’m wrong)
@@mackenzieb6397 i think you're confused. Skill floor is the required skill to be effective at the character. Skill ceiling is the required skill to master the character. Lets take lucio for example, he has a low skill floor because even new players running lucio will still provide heals and speed buff. But he has a high skill ceiling because mastery of wallride to get to points faster, access flanks, and take care of enemy supports is difficult but very effective. Genji on the other hand has a high skill floor, new players trying out genji most likely get caught in the open without doing much.

The key characteristic of a scout is the ability to, well, scout - not speed. Vision range and detection and such. The TF2 Scout isn't really a scout, he's more of a speedster. Light cavalry, shock trooper, raider.
that ending speech definitely hits, i've recently started doing art since not having touched a pen since i left school, and the one piece of advice i always get told is to practice every day, do rough sketches and just not be afraid of scrapping pieces to move onto something else. and well doing that personally sucks all the fun out of it (well aside scrapping bad projects, forcing something bad to be good is misserable) cause well i used to do that with youtube, writing scripts, deciding they're not good enough, writing another, constantly testing out methods to see what sticks and when i haven't filmed in awhile cause it has to be good i have to practice acting again so i just, stopped. been a year and a half since my last release for that reason. but for art, i only release like one or two pieces a month and the rough below is the practice and completing is the excuse to get better at lineart. is it as good as it could be if i do a doodle page after i wake up? of course not, i'm still ameaturish, but the fun of art isn't comparing yourself to others, it's simply expressing yourself and going zen for a few hours. or 10 lol trying to speedrun the skill so i can monotise it for commissions just isn't enjoyable. too much of a good thing and turning hobbies into jobs and the like. i've definitely swang from one extreme to another but hey, while i wanna live to make myself as happy as possible, maximising happiness is the fastest way to drain it, slower experiences last longer, though to a point i'm not grinding a 50 hour rpg when i can get my gaming fix from a 2 hour game lol
I think low skill floor in this case was meant in the sense of easy to understand. Tracer's abilities are easy to understand: The go fast button and the go back button. Anyone can look at that and grasp what they should be doing. Doing it effectively however, is the part that's hard to master.

I've heard Low Skill Floor be defined as more difficult since you start lower down. I'm not entierly sure which definition is correct anymore but Low being Easy means the terms stay consistent between Floor and Celling.

@@sorin_markov I meant after they changed it. The role passive used to be that all dps heroes moved like 10% faster or something but after they changed it I think they gave the speed boost back to tracer and genji Edit: the current role passive is that they reload faster after getting a kill

I don't think Rein is the best analogue, Zarya probably fits better. Focus on close range, high damage output, increasing your teammates' survivability, and temporary survivability boosts to yourself while not being meant to face tank damage most of the time.
For scouts numbers did you use the crit calculations in there? The scattergun is essentially just a better shot gun with max ramp up of 105 which 2 shots any class except heavy.
Idk if you need this anymore but he said in 2 shots, yes max ramp up for 1 is 105 not including minicrits or crits, but 2 shots is 210. Idk where 220 came in but sometimes Valve calcs get weird

One of the best new additions to the DRG scout is the stunning boomerang option (in place of a grenade). Since the scout's grappling hook isnt super far reaching, a scout can rush around a corner, stunn all the enemies, and then run while his team mates take care of the bugs, making the other dwarves' lives easier. AND HE CAN DO THIS 8 TIMES BEFORE RESUPPLYING.
What I feel you really missed about DRG Scout is not only that Scout enables your whole team to finish the mission faster, but is also by far the best equipped to take out high priority targets, primarily the ranged enemies. Also the DRG Scout is usually the one responsible for most of the ressurects on the team. Lastly, taking the special powder overclock into account, you can cover hundreds of meters in seconds.

A big part of scout (DRG) is also how he helps picks dangerous enemies to lessen pressure on his teammates. His primaries are really good with picking off enemies and having good burst damage, and the most popular builds for scout center around him killing dangerous enemies like spitters, matera, menaces etc. His secondary is more just for utility and self defense.

came for the scouts subbed for the life lesson at the end like eyo i didn't expect that but ill say having adhd thats very accurate. with adhd you cannot brute force and speed through things by just forcing yourself to focus. we have hyper focus but its more tunnel vision to be accurate. its important to stop and think about how i do things before i do things
Scout in DRG is such a brilliant design. He's fast and lights up the caves for the team, but also in combat he has a unique playstyle (depending on your loadout) of turning into the high value target eliminator. See, during a swarm your driller and gunner will easily take out the hordes of standard bugs, so I don't even shoot them to save ammo. Instead, I keep my eyes on the walls and in the distance, using Scout's exceptionally accurate guns to take out web spitters, Menaces, Mactera and other things that need to die fast. My favourite loadout is the AI Stability Engine GK2 rifle with the Gas Recycling dual autopistols as a secondary. In this configuration the rifle doesn't do much damage normally, but has an absurd weakpoint damage multiplier and almost pinpoint accuracy even in full auto. It's a fully automatic sniper rifle. Combined with grapple, I make it my job to keep the rest of the team safe from high value targets. While this struggles to kill swarms in your face, the secondary autopistols fill that role nicely, though you still want to hug the driller during swarms because they don't have much ammo.
I would like to add something to Jeremy's section, more so about the weapons than anything else. While yes, the atomizer, winger, and soda popper are amazing mobility tools and do what they do well, there is one more item that takes things a step further with low cost to scout's overall style. The Force of Nature. Unlike the soda popper, the force of nature simply requires you to be in the air with one of its shots, and it will send you backwards or up with knockback. This opens up so much of the map and allows for even more niche routes that sometimes can't be reached with the winger and atomizer combo. Soda popper will always have the upper hand, but that requires you to deal some damage beforehand, while the force of nature can be an out of spawn mobile blessing. Just something I felt like needed to be pointed out, especially since I main the weapon and didn't see it included in his added mobility section.

@@zer0her048 Yes, if you take the right mods and OCs, you can make any class do just about any task better than another generalist build of another class. But by nature, Scout does not excel at damage of just about any form. Other classes do better against groups and against most single targets simply because they have higher overall damage. Scout's weapons are meant for personal defense and precision, idk how that really factors in.
@@zer0her048 Think there's a bit of confusion here. Sustained DPS? No one trumps Gunner. Burst DPS? Nothing really compares to AI Stability Engine, Bullets of Mercy, Supercooling Chamber, and *especially* Embedded Detonators, the highest DPS secondary period. Engineer's Overdrive Booster and Hyper Propellant are pretty close, though. Really the issue with Scout's identity is all his uniquely powerful offensive options are relegated behind the timegated Overclock gacha. If you don't get lucky, all his weapons are rather plinky-dinky, and you're mostly reliant on your grenades and teammates.
some things you missed:
1. DRG's Scout has the only movement tool that lets you go faster unconditionally
Driller's Drills have more optimised pathing, but don't work as well when going upwards
Gunner's Zipline is slow by design, used as a defensive tool
Engineer's platforms don't give any speed, just allow more speed by reducing fall damage if you land on them
2. Scout's Boomstick overclock easily makes him the fastest of the 3, especially when you remember that he can mitigate fall damage no matter how high up you go and without any prior setup using the grapple hook
Sure Scout from TF2 has one of the best stock weapons in the game and Tracer can straight up teleport but....

If I had to add something to the DRG scout, it’s that his weapons and typically the quietest in the field, compared to the constant flow of driller’s flamer and cryo cannon, the gunner’s sheer amount of DAKKA! And engine’s grenade launcher and sentries.
With him usually being found in the quieter outer circle of a team, Scout’s weapons seem a little quieter than most. So they’re usually the one tasked with listening, listening through the music, to the low rumbles of the cave life. And reporting if you hear anything like the low rumble of a bulk, the electric charge of a warden, the chirping of stingtails and septic spreaders. You’re the team’s ears, and your flairs provide them with eyes.
Although, I will admit it’s a little hard to listen through the killer soundtrack sometimes. It’s amazing to see DRG on lists that were so heavily dominated by TF2 and over watch having competitions against each other. Keep it up man!

@@dwarf2155 Stingtails are scorpions that can hook you towards them (as annoying as it sounds) and septic spreaders are ranged glyphids that shoot toxic sludge at you. Both have distinct sounds that indicate when they're about to attack.

And the other, the septic spreader, is the most demonic, deadliest, and utterly devastating enemy you can get…. On exactly one gamemode, salvage operation, otherwise they just hurt. A LOT .
@@dwarf2155Word of advice when fighting stingtails: when you hear their cry (idk why but to me it sounds like they’re saying “MAMA!”), quickly sidestep and jump. That’s usually enough to dodge the hook. If you do get hooked, immediately run the opposite way you got hooked because there’s probably glyphids near him.

A real-world scout is defined by caution. Your job is to move ahead of everyone else to see what the enemy is up to, and in practice that means you're going blindly into an area likely to be dense with enemies, with equipment and numbers that are nowhere near enough to survive a firefight if you get caught. Speed, stealth, and smarts are all you have.
In DRG I like to embody the glass cannon philosophy which in fights let's me basically do surgical strikes against important enemies. Wardens and those red goopy bastards I forgot the name of in particular. Freeze, grapple, shotgun, pick, and you've just removed half a dreadnought.
Started with game feature analytics to a life lesson, quite nice to have.
Again proves that anything can teach you something about life when you look deep into it.

Blinks are much more useful in moving in and out of cover, which is more common on overwatch maps than tf2. They're also good at closing distance to longer range characters, because you don't have to worry about getting oneshot by a sniper as much if you can literally teleport every few seconds. Scout is only really better at avoiding projectiles and doing burst damage, since run speed and double jumps combo well for passive evasiveness, and the shotgun either does a lot of damage or misses compared to pulse pistols.

the points you're evoking about the scout from drg are accurate, but most of the time we're all chill and sometimes we take it slow to find some hidden objects here and there (comp gold, bittergems, beer mats)
its a great game overall with lovely devs, don't hesitate to buy it, for the price is worth it ^^

I think low skill floor is correct - that means the lowest skill player will perform very bad. A high skill floor would imply that the lowest skill player is still relatively good. That’s based on the use of high skill ceiling meaning there’s lots of room to grow and improve to master the character and perform extremely well, and a low skill ceiling would mean that even if you’re number 1 in the world you wouldn’t perform as well with that character as someone with similar skill playing a better character with a higher ceiling. The floors and ceilings are limiting factors on both ends (as far as I’ve ever understood it anyway. Maybe I’m wrong)

Skill floor is the required skill to be effective at the character.
Skill ceiling is the required skill to master the character.
Lets take lucio for example, he has a low skill floor because even new players running lucio will still provide heals and speed buff. But he has a high skill ceiling because mastery of wallride to get to points faster, access flanks, and take care of enemy supports is difficult but very effective.
Genji on the other hand has a high skill floor, new players trying out genji most likely get caught in the open without doing much.

The key characteristic of a scout is the ability to, well, scout - not speed. Vision range and detection and such. The TF2 Scout isn't really a scout, he's more of a speedster. Light cavalry, shock trooper, raider.

that ending speech definitely hits, i've recently started doing art since not having touched a pen since i left school, and the one piece of advice i always get told is to practice every day, do rough sketches and just not be afraid of scrapping pieces to move onto something else. and well doing that personally sucks all the fun out of it (well aside scrapping bad projects, forcing something bad to be good is misserable) cause well i used to do that with youtube, writing scripts, deciding they're not good enough, writing another, constantly testing out methods to see what sticks and when i haven't filmed in awhile cause it has to be good i have to practice acting again so i just, stopped. been a year and a half since my last release for that reason.
but for art, i only release like one or two pieces a month and the rough below is the practice and completing is the excuse to get better at lineart. is it as good as it could be if i do a doodle page after i wake up? of course not, i'm still ameaturish, but the fun of art isn't comparing yourself to others, it's simply expressing yourself and going zen for a few hours. or 10 lol
trying to speedrun the skill so i can monotise it for commissions just isn't enjoyable. too much of a good thing and turning hobbies into jobs and the like.
i've definitely swang from one extreme to another but hey, while i wanna live to make myself as happy as possible, maximising happiness is the fastest way to drain it, slower experiences last longer, though to a point i'm not grinding a 50 hour rpg when i can get my gaming fix from a 2 hour game lol
Low skill floor means easy to play, you mean to say that tracer has a high skill floor.
I think low skill floor in this case was meant in the sense of easy to understand. Tracer's abilities are easy to understand: The go fast button and the go back button.
Anyone can look at that and grasp what they should be doing. Doing it effectively however, is the part that's hard to master.

I've heard Low Skill Floor be defined as more difficult since you start lower down.
I'm not entierly sure which definition is correct anymore but Low being Easy means the terms stay consistent between Floor and Celling.

I don't think Rein is the best analogue, Zarya probably fits better. Focus on close range, high damage output, increasing your teammates' survivability, and temporary survivability boosts to yourself while not being meant to face tank damage most of the time.
And how about engineer, engineer and bastion ? (the bit where they decide where to sit down)

For scouts numbers did you use the crit calculations in there? The scattergun is essentially just a better shot gun with max ramp up of 105 which 2 shots any class except heavy.

Idk if you need this anymore but he said in 2 shots, yes max ramp up for 1 is 105 not including minicrits or crits, but 2 shots is 210. Idk where 220 came in but sometimes Valve calcs get weird

i wanna note theirs an in lore reason why scout (tf2) has 2x capture rate, hes got 2 hearts, mind you, the second heart beaing that of a dove that the medic accidently put in him

One of the best new additions to the DRG scout is the stunning boomerang option (in place of a grenade). Since the scout's grappling hook isnt super far reaching, a scout can rush around a corner, stunn all the enemies, and then run while his team mates take care of the bugs, making the other dwarves' lives easier. AND HE CAN DO THIS 8 TIMES BEFORE RESUPPLYING.
What I feel you really missed about DRG Scout is not only that Scout enables your whole team to finish the mission faster, but is also by far the best equipped to take out high priority targets, primarily the ranged enemies. Also the DRG Scout is usually the one responsible for most of the ressurects on the team. Lastly, taking the special powder overclock into account, you can cover hundreds of meters in seconds.
TF2 Scout is Operationally fast
OW/2 Tracer is Tactically fast
DW Scout is Strategically fast

A big part of scout (DRG) is also how he helps picks dangerous enemies to lessen pressure on his teammates. His primaries are really good with picking off enemies and having good burst damage, and the most popular builds for scout center around him killing dangerous enemies like spitters, matera, menaces etc. His secondary is more just for utility and self defense.

Scout in DRG is such a brilliant design. He's fast and lights up the caves for the team, but also in combat he has a unique playstyle (depending on your loadout) of turning into the high value target eliminator. See, during a swarm your driller and gunner will easily take out the hordes of standard bugs, so I don't even shoot them to save ammo. Instead, I keep my eyes on the walls and in the distance, using Scout's exceptionally accurate guns to take out web spitters, Menaces, Mactera and other things that need to die fast.
My favourite loadout is the AI Stability Engine GK2 rifle with the Gas Recycling dual autopistols as a secondary. In this configuration the rifle doesn't do much damage normally, but has an absurd weakpoint damage multiplier and almost pinpoint accuracy even in full auto. It's a fully automatic sniper rifle. Combined with grapple, I make it my job to keep the rest of the team safe from high value targets. While this struggles to kill swarms in your face, the secondary autopistols fill that role nicely, though you still want to hug the driller during swarms because they don't have much ammo.

I would like to add something to Jeremy's section, more so about the weapons than anything else. While yes, the atomizer, winger, and soda popper are amazing mobility tools and do what they do well, there is one more item that takes things a step further with low cost to scout's overall style. The Force of Nature. Unlike the soda popper, the force of nature simply requires you to be in the air with one of its shots, and it will send you backwards or up with knockback. This opens up so much of the map and allows for even more niche routes that sometimes can't be reached with the winger and atomizer combo. Soda popper will always have the upper hand, but that requires you to deal some damage beforehand, while the force of nature can be an out of spawn mobile blessing. Just something I felt like needed to be pointed out, especially since I main the weapon and didn't see it included in his added mobility section.
