Samhain isn’t pronounced like it’s spelled. There are several accepted pronunciations but being that we are discussing Celtic lore “Sowin” or “Saven” would be most appropriate
Thanks for helping with these pronunciations. Gaelic, for non-native speakers, has some difficult combinations, like how "bh" often sounds like a v; "mo bhean" (according to my hubby) is pronounced "mo vhon" and means "my wife". Ban sidhe is a perfect example, too.
@@kristinbrown8291 my name is the anglicised version of Siobhan, so I do understand very much how the pronunciation can be confusing. Well done you though for giving it a go! Most of the time I didn't have a problem.
@@shevaunhandley1543 WE should just be thankful Ms. Fisher did not try to go Detailed trying to distinguish the Seelie Court from the unseelie court clans nor the different clans and good fae from the drow fae. :)
"Sowin" would be more proper of Irish Gaelic, "Sowvin" (very soft v and w) would be a Scottish twist, due to the Scot's ties with the Scandinavian tribes who pronounced "w" sounds as a very soft VW combo.
My family are Celts and my great grandfather told us that when his father died he heard a banshee screaming. It changed him for the rest of his life. He said it was the most terrifying sound you can imagine.
Surprised Finn McCool wasn't mentioned in more detail . McCool was an ancient warrior said to have created Giants Causeway to get to Scotland without his feet getting wet and the Isle of Man off the northwest coast of England after throwing a rock at one of his rivals but missed and the Isle was formed .
Oh, and if anyone thinks #9 seems familiar, Washington Irving may have drawn inspiration for the Headless Horseman in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" from the Dullahan.
u guys are awesome i love all ur videos and im so glad i joined this amazing family and i love when raechel hosts scary videos she makes them so much better
Raechel, love your videos, since you weren't sure of pronunciation, just a couple I noticed. Samhain is pronounced sowain, tuatha is that as in too-ah, and sidhe is she.
The early Celtic peoples lived throughout central Europe and included many different tribes. They were, little by little, pushed out of central Europe into what is now England, Scotland, and Ireland, so many modern people may have some Celtic roots. Early on, being Celtic was more about a shared culture, than shared genetics.
Fun fact during samhain the reason children dressed up as scary creatures was a form of protection if you look like the creatures they wouldnt attack you and bonfires were protection to it was used to ward off evil spirits
Omg what? My dad once told me about that his grandpa saw a horse swimming under his boat and it was black and stood still under the water, he said the he described it as a shadow of a horse but he wasn't sure if he saw what he thought he did but on his death bed. He said that it WAS a horse swimming under his boat. My dad found it weird and laughed as he told me this. But now I think otherwise. My goodness!
The fae are not fairys. Fairys are a creature that lives in the fae world. The fae themselves are technically considered to be true blooded elves. Im sorry but if your gonna go over facts make them true. Especially because full blooded elves find it extremely offensive to be considered a fairy
I love it when you guys do topics on folklore, mythology, and scary legends.
SAAAAAAME
I do too!!!
Oh yes. Want more

21 years on this earth and I finally know what the term "screaming like a banshee" truly means, very interesting 😁

History of civilization is an awesome body of knowledge.

I have Irish, English and,Scottish ancestory so I'm sure I must have Celtics ancestry mixed in their somewhere.and I love the thought of that
You do because the Celts were the Irish, Scots and Welsh and parts of Northern France.
