What happens if you write off a BMW worth £35,000 by doing something very stupid such as speeding? That's why insurance is very expensive because people don't understand how much money is paid out by an accident being your fault so that's why your 1.25 polo is insured at £1800 when it's probably worth £400 because lack of experience is a major factor with young drivers
@@wumpty93 yeah but car is worth around 200-1000 pounds and my insurance in my first year cost 3450, finished this year and next cost is 2050 as 19 year old but I am insuring a Zafira 1.8 so probably why its high

@Marky Marky It could be the type of car used what car did you previously own? Some cars are cheaper than others for example a ford fiesta 1.25 zetec is cheaper than 1.25 corsa because more people buy it after passing their driving test but you need to account for the cost of the car and vice versa
Lewis Richards because using normal browsers insurance companies and different comparison sites know you have been in the past. So they charge a higher price to make you think 'hmm it's going up. Better buy now before it goes up any further'
Yep they read your cookies and see you already done a quote and then try and scare you into thinking all seats are going or the price is going up i often wonder how they can do this as in reality its fraud, its tricking you into making a purchase.... something should be done but it wont
Unfortunately my postcode has the "highest risk" status because it comes under the renowned shithole Oldham. Trying to insure a fridge freezer with a lawn mower engine would probably cost a grand.
1) The law dictates how you drive, black box fitted or not. 2) Some black boxes allow you to drive at night, and the extra cost that they might add on your next premium is very often less than not having a black box fitted at all.
Collins LFC Yeah the law does dictate how you drive. But on the other hand if for example a pedestrian was to suddenly run out in front of you whilst driving and you have to slam on, the law doesn’t come into the equation whereas a black box will mark you down and leave you with a bad score. I mean you can research and you might get one to suit you but the whole concept just isn’t worth it for me. Any new drivers insurance is going to be expensive with or without a black box, it’s a cost not a lot of first time drivers can prepare for. The main thing is getting a few years no claims under your belt and then your premiums go down
When choosing your insurance set your mileage down to 5000 or lower as this can bring prices down by at least £500. Then, if you find yourself running out of miles, as i did, ring up your insurance company and inquire how much it would cost to add more. My policy was originally 5000, but i just doubled it for £20, saving hundreds. (Insurance companies can check how many miles you've done from your mots so dont set a low one to go over it massively). Also, i'm with admiral, no black box and chose a 10 month policy which gives me 1 years no claims, i paid about £850 with zero no claims :)
as soon as you mentioned the black box I was done. they are a rip off. do 2 mph over the limit... oh here's an extra £200 premium. slam on your brakes for a wanker in front. here's another £100. useless tech
Haha, my brother got a black box insurance as well and put it in my dads car, who is a very safe driver and now the insurance premium is at the same price.
Doesn't matter how you drive with a black box so long as you're not a maniac trying to break every rule of the road (your insurance will be cancelled if you're REALLY bad). Once the year is up it makes no difference as there will always be a cheaper alternative insurance provider, you only get a discount/hike on the price for using the same provider which some people leave on auto renew out of laziness. Also change the date that your insurance starts to the cheapest day then call the company with the quote reference to change it back to the day you actually want. I have 1 year NCD and paid roughly £650 for no black box
It's literally the first time when I'm hearing that you have to pay this ridiculous amounts of money... Fml... F*ck everything... I'm getting a bycicle... I'm done with life... No more...
Last year I was quoted around £900 I added my wife who is a provisional holder to my insurance and it dropped by £200 so they dont always have to be a "responsible driver" to lower your quote
I have a black box with ingenie, insured as the only driver on a 1.2 corsa as a 17 year old guy, with no curfew and no mileage limit, and from driving well i have been able to bring my insureance down from £140 a month to £90 a month so its definitely worth getting a black box
Its cheaper to insure an Audi A3 1.9l than a Toyota Yaris 1.0 vvti for me, what!?! Also motorcycle insurance is like £400 compared to car insurance just saying.
I went with Bell which is part of the admiral group, I was sent a tracker which plugs into the 12v, so far I have received gold standards. I am insured as the main driver and have my dad as a 2nd driver. The Insurance was just over £800. I do think its wrong that insurance companies quote your insurance on things like what job you do.
Gary Bull better than what gender tho, they used to give girls insurance discounts because they was considered “saver drivers”. construction workers, racers etc generally pay more than say doctors, nurses etc
My black box encouraged me to not corner hard so it was better to cut the round about instead of taking the correct lane because cutting = less cornering g forces...... Also forced me to go speed limit everywhere which meant you get a massive queue of angry people behind you in certain areas who get annoyed and then try dangerous things to overtake..... Was a nightmare so I got rid of mine. Going with the flow of traffic in the correct lane is safer even if its slightly over the speed limit.

please please please!! don't just jump on the cheapest price on comparison sites. they are price comparison NOT policy comparison and many will cut cover in order to appear at the cheaper end of the search. or they go in cheap and then if you need to amend your insurance during the year they hit you with huge admin charges to cover costs. there's a reason they are cheap! quote me happy is solely online, no contact number. so if you have a crash and you have to Internet good luck because you can't even call them! be careful out there ☺
What bothers me is no matter if your buying used or new the insurance is insanely high, every telematics deal I've looked at saves me next to nothing. I've looked at 10+ year old cars and the insurance is around £1700 and new cars around £1800. Telematic offers save me at most about £150 which isn't worth the possibility of being prevent from driving at night or having my premiums increase because of strict rules.
Maya Cos they’re scams, they just fuck your life up, future insurance will see that and will quote you sooooo much, sometimes they can get the roads wrong too. I was doing 57 on a 60mph road, next to it was a 30mph road, they claimed I did 57 on a 30mph road and they threatened to cut me off. Honestly I wouldn’t get one they are hell, but it all depends really, you just have to be prepared to stick up for yourself and have more than enough proof
My first year cost me 4k, i got a 2.2L 2007 Lexus 220D, but it was costing me the same as a 1.9L Golf TDI would have cost, so a faster, bigger newer lexus for the same price was an easy decision
I’ve got a black box with Hastings and I’m not allowed to drive between 10pm and 5am, braking is ridiculously sensitive (if you brake slightly harder than usual you will lose about 5 points out of 100), acceleration and speed isn’t too bad though.
my brother paid £950 for his first year as an 18 year old with a 1.25 ford fiesta with 2 named adult drivers, admiral multicar policy is so good, we now have 3 cars on it and are saving so much! would highly recommend it, and compare the market was very helpful
I had a Fiesta on finance through Ford, and i joined their young driver scheme where they put a black box on your car and it dropped my insurance to £500, but because of my job I drive late at night and because of this they cancelled my insurance without warning!
when i read the comments, i sit and laugh how many drivers drive small engined cars. makes me think how england is forcefully trying to make drivers drive smaller cars hence it explains the maximum speed limit 70mph (smaller cars take time to reach 70mph and have 5 gears maybe 6 but not as economical)
Dont get me wrong but you must be loaded or pretty stupid to pay 3k, anyone with a brain researches first using multiple sources. But bless you sweetheart.

I have a 2006 1.6 16V 5 door astra with a black box from "insure the box" originally I was with "more than" which cost me £1400 and they cancelled my policy because a road was not signposted correctly and I drove 15mph over the limit, after fighting them they agreed it wasn't my fault and that I wouldn't have to declare the cancellation, but that took many months, so my next lot still cost me £1,700 :( but once I'm 19 and have 2 years NCB a 2009 Astra VXR will cost me only £900 so that is happy days :) will try some of these tips to bring it down more ! Excellent vids keep them up :)
When searching through comparison sites I've had my phone ringing only moments after entering it on the website. The sales staff were asking "Why I didn't choose their company?". Intrusive & very annoying at the same time.
sam have they never heard of no claims???? Who cares night or day if one has never made a claim daaaaaah daylight roberry especially cwuse its required by law and multi billion pound industry grrr
Cheers for the video. I've just about saved enough for a decent car, now to do the same for insurance. I never knew the rate increases drastically even when the accident isn't your fault.
Try this when u call your insurance company next time.. tell them u drive another car on a daily basis.. tell them to update it. Also if u r adding a car mid term tell whatever amount of NCB u want to update, they'll update it (no POB required) they'll update verbal POB if required which they never crosscheck
I have a 2004 Seat Ibiza 1.2 and it's my second car and started driving it last year. I'm 20 years old and had my full license for 2 years and 2 years no claim. Last year, the insurance cost me £1133 and now this year it's going to cost me £1107. Not much cheaper than last year, I am not happy 😠
Think safety is a thing to think about if you crash your fiat it's not going to be good for you and whoever you crash into try something with a better safety rating
I was determined not to have a black box for my first year however the company I went with is actually pretty chill, when I thought of a black box I thought they’d install it themselves and like wire it in to the ECU or something but all that happened was is they sent me a little GPS box that sits in my front window and all it does is measure speed and my mileage so it’s actually very reasonable, If I speed then usually the next day it just informs me and says that if I keep speeding my renewal price will go up, but I’ve done like 3mph over before and it’s never penalised me for it, if you intentionally speed though say like do 90mph on a 60mph it triggers a ‘3 strike warning system’ which basically means if you speed excessively 2 more times in the next 30 days your policy gets cancelled.
@@Pit-jt3lw well as the GPS knows your location it will know what road you’re travelling on i’d imagine the insurance company has or has access to a map of all UK roads along with speed limits so they’ll know the speed limit of the road you’re travelling on only thing they won’t know is temporary speed limits
36 year old, south London with no insurance history. Starting a new career as estate agent, I got a £1,000 quote for a Toyota aygo on go compare. I will use all your tricks and as well contact your sponsor to see what they can do. Thanks! :)
I started with a 2006 Polo 1.2 10k a year with wise driving black boxed (the worst insurance company in the world) and paid £1400. Bought a new 2012 Polo 1.6tdi 90 after the 1st year and they quoted me £1600 even though my driving score was 86/100 or excellent...!!? Went to Admiral direct and got it for £750 no black box.
My tips low enging size, black box if applicable, put your parents on your insurance and don't rely on comparison sites fully I was quoted 1700 with bb on comparison site but tesco bb got to 1000 so compare on comparison sites and go direct to other insurance providers and if you put parents on make sure you are a main driver.
I'm 22 and i drive a modified fiesta st 215, If you have mods DECLARE THEM! You'll heavily regret if you don't and your involved in an accident. If you do modify your car excessively go with Greenlight Insurance. I cant recommend them enough as they've saved me over £1000 over comparison site insurers.
I work in the insurance industry, the only reason the price of your policy goes up or down or is high from the get go is due to risk and rating factors, area that you live in for example if your next door neighbour had a accident the risk of that area that you live in will go up there for the price of your policy as well. It also does not matter how long you are with a insurance company, some people think that because you been with a company for a year or two that the price of the policy should go down, that's not the case at all. Risk and rating factors is the only thing that really matters to a insurer provider , how old you are, how many mils you are going to be doing, what kinda car you drive and when you take out the policy, how long you had the car for, stuff like that. So the only reason that your paying more then you think you should is pretty much because of other people, that's a other reason for ya to hate other people
It is true the more unusual first car you buy the cheaper it is. I got quoted for a subaru impreza 1.5 hatback i think i was looking at 2008 model and i had a quote for £900 first car at 18 (passed my licence at 17) but what i ended up getting was a seat ibiza 1.2 and i pay £1300 when i should have been paying £1100 but because when i went from a comparison site to the insurers website the details were wrong so when i changed them it bumped my insurance by £200 but its still cheap and my insurance is without a black box. Hopefully by next year it will drop down under 1k so that i can upgrade to a skoda fabia vrs or a seat ibiza fr both 1.9 diesels.
20, no NCD, Impreza Turbo 2000. Used all comparison websites, tried Adrian Flux as it's A) a "classic" in some insurers books and B) performance insurance can help but Admiral gave me the best price at 900 a year. Don't know how, but its worked.
I pay about £950 for a Toyota Yaris hybrid 2014 (1.5c) with black box insurance and my dad as a named driver. I am 25 though, it's kind of on the borderline away from the young driver bracket. I used compare the market and got Admiral.
I'm 21 own a 1.6 astra and with a license for just a month my insurance is only £800 per year without a tracker. Although the second best to that being £1780, so pretty inconsistent. I only came across the cheaper insurance thanks to reading fine print in comparison site results, quite a few of the "reasonable" offers were actually brokers for other companies, in the end you're basically paying them up to £1000 just to be a broker...
My first year on a 2001 1.4 Honda Civic I paid £1400 for a black box policy with a broker called 'my policy' (found through compare the market) and got 5000 miles on my box, by renewal in June, it'll have cost around £2000 as I'm actually doing around 10k miles this year for commuting and personal use etc
any USA people here? how much do/did you pay for your first year of driving. I'm a 16 year old guy and my parents said our insurance went from $150 a month to $300 when I got on the plan. 2000 grand am was my car btw.
Ford Fiesta Mk6 08 plate, paid £900 if I remember at 23. Cheap enough imo, car was £1500. I consider that a win considering a lot of people seem to pay £2000 for their first ever year of insurance!
I got a 1.6 focus 06 model for my first car. It was £1200 with a black box. I would suggest collingwood young drivers insurance they left me to my own devices
Make it cheaper, check different comparison sites, then go direct to the website and check with them. Last time I had to deal with a car insurance I found it to be £67 cheaper by going direct
I'm with tesco box insurance I have a 1.3 corsa first year was 1250 and 1100 for my second year and there really good very lenient don't have a bed time on then braking or accelerating they just monitor speed definitely check them out people
I’m a new driver, 17 and live in London. I got insured on my new Audi A1 without a black box for £724 a year. My previous lowest quote was £8000 with a box. Idk how I got that low, but not complaining 🤣
My advice would be to bite the bullet and go for a decently sized engine 1 or 2 years after passing! After that my insurance for a 290bhp hot hatch was 770 quid for insurance and I’ve been driving for 4 years
I haven't got my license or a car yet but I have been doing research and getting quotes from admiral all around £3000-£5000 at that rate ots going to be impossible for me to drive

I paid £1200 with marmalade in monthly installments when I was 17 if I waited till 18 it was £1000 and that was for an 06 Renault scenic plus marmalade blackbox is very lenient 😊
Was looking at getting an Mini Hatch One 1.6 L as my first car. Do you think it would be a decent first car? It’s not too expensive but the insurance is weird as sometimes it’s around £4K but if I do another quote it goes down to like £800-£1000.
Insurance prices are not really down to engine size, they're mosty down to BHP... My first car was a 1L corsa and that was only 59bhp that's why it was the cheapest to insure
I use little black box from admiral. To insure my 307sw 2L dT for 1.2k Only got to use the box for 60 days to assess my driving then if all good they will discount my premium there and then (due to me being 28 in my first year driving lol) hopefully it'll be good as it's almost the 2 month mark. But long as I'm not in bottom 5% they can't cancel the policy plus if I'm in there top 46% I gain a %17 discount for the rest of the policy. So win win. I did originally get the quote for a full black box but called admiral gave them references and I already gained a discount of 100 quid then the little box for new older drivers. Rather than being puned as a boy ricer. Of course I do have myself my partner who's pregnant and 2 children in back so I got to be a safe driver no matter what.
Wish I'd seen this video 5 months ago when I was looking for insurance, I was 20 back then got one with ladies first insurance now they've done me wrong.. I literally paid £325 deposit and £162 per month and now 5 months down the line they have cancelled my insurance because I apparently drove 195 miles between 3:45 and 5am
non fault accidents will still affect you're insurance premiums... I'm an insurance broker and you have to think like an insurer for example: customer 1 has a fault claim customer 2 has no fault claims but 5 non fault. both premiums will increase because even though customer number 2s claims are all non fault. alarm bells are raised as to why he is prone to being hit. does he park badly causing cars to hit his unattended vehicle? does he drive in a way that he breaks hard and causes people to hit him in the rear? not saying this is how you drive but you have to think of it from a risk point of view, future insurer's will see 'non fault accident' not the circumstances of the incident xx
Carlie Norwell yeah I completely understand you there. There's always the problems with the fine line of distinguishing who's genuinely been hit in a completely non fault way and someone who caused it but is still "non fault" to insurers.
also people don't realise if an accident is finished 90% their fault and 10% your fault. this doesn't mean it's a non fault. will be fault on both insurances because both insurances had to pay the percentage proportion of the claim. meaning your insurance company did not recover the full cost from third party so both at fault and both have fault claims on your record.

WassellThatAbout please please look into them and read the small print... some have extremely strict curfews and in an emergency you don't want to have to be checking through restrictions to see if you can jump in your car :) have a look into some young driver (not box) schemes. contact a broker as they will often have agreements with insurers. we for example have a scheme that if you are new to driving, under 24 and living with parents then your eligible. alot of brokers aren't on comparison sites so it's worth checking around
Insurance takes the piss in the UK. Sometimes even 3 times as much as the car????? Why? Such a rip off.

2) Some black boxes allow you to drive at night, and the extra cost that they might add on your next premium is very often less than not having a black box fitted at all.

Then, if you find yourself running out of miles, as i did, ring up your insurance company and inquire how much it would cost to add more. as soon as you mentioned the black box I was done. they are a rip off. do 2 mph over the limit... oh here's an extra £200 premium. slam on your brakes for a wanker in front. here's another £100. useless tech
harrisnutter get yourself a job and do twice your mileage alowance, FUCKED!
harrisnutter wire your black box to your grandma's car
I disagree, Im rather laxx in terms of the speed limit on roads i know well...my premiums have done nothing but lower.
No more...

Very smart idea you can save lots of money and buy other stuff

Walking is cheaper 😀
High car insurance is why me and a lot of my friends aren't getting driving ):
I have my sisters ex boyfriend as a named driver, as it reduces my premium by like £200, they broke up like 4 years ago, but I always keep him on lol
Haha lucky guy.
Does he know?😂
When your insurrance a month is more expensive then your car....
yep
Bought my car for 1k and insurance want £1700
Last year I was quoted around £900 I added my wife who is a provisional holder to my insurance and it dropped by £200 so they dont always have to be a "responsible driver" to lower your quote
I have a black box with ingenie, insured as the only driver on a 1.2 corsa as a 17 year old guy, with no curfew and no mileage limit, and from driving well i have been able to bring my insureance down from £140 a month to £90 a month so its definitely worth getting a black box

Gheorghe Oanta no i live in Wiltshire, and yes theres no curfew so i can drive whereever i like whenever i like
what insurance company?
does the insurance just come back to you and say youve been driving well. £50 decrease... are u on a monthly deal or a full annual price paid?
I'm with ingenie and they are completely wank I'm 18 with a 1.4 and its 2.500 with Bb

Never use black box !!!
Why

Not performance. Bugger, I was looking at a 5l v8 lol.
my brother paid £950 for his first year as an 18 year old with a 1.25 ford fiesta with 2 named adult drivers, admiral multicar policy is so good, we now have 3 cars on it and are saving so much! would highly recommend it, and compare the market was very helpful

when i read the comments, i sit and laugh how many drivers drive small engined cars. makes me think how england is forcefully trying to make drivers drive smaller cars hence it explains the maximum speed limit 70mph (smaller cars take time to reach 70mph and have 5 gears maybe 6 but not as economical)

When searching through comparison sites I've had my phone ringing only moments after entering it on the website. The sales staff were asking "Why I didn't choose their company?". Intrusive & very annoying at the same time.
You also get telematics without a black box, you can use an app for example which is interesting because I've heard people just turn it off.
How can they fuck you up if you want to drive early or late a night. id rip out the box and throw it through the window of the company
They just see it as "more dangerous" sometimes, it is annoying for sure.
Perceived as dangerous since its usually "dark" therefore your vision is worse which technically could lead to a higher accident chance.
sam have they never heard of no claims???? Who cares night or day if one has never made a claim daaaaaah daylight roberry especially cwuse its required by law and multi billion pound industry grrr

How does black box know if it’s a 30mph road or motorway?
@@Pit-jt3lw well as the GPS knows your location it will know what road you’re travelling on i’d imagine the insurance company has or has access to a map of all UK roads along with speed limits so they’ll know the speed limit of the road you’re travelling on only thing they won’t know is temporary speed limits
So basically if u do night shift leave in the evening and come home
In the morning my insurance will get canceled or worse fines ...just perfect 👌
Nathan Green yeah but with green light you have to be over a certain age and driving for a few years
I work in the insurance industry, the only reason the price of your policy goes up or down or is high from the get go is due to risk and rating factors, area that you live in for example if your next door neighbour had a accident the risk of that area that you live in will go up there for the price of your policy as well.
Well done for getting that on an Impreza! They're normally crazy expensive in the UK.
What company did you use?
I consider that a win considering a lot of people seem to pay £2000 for their first ever year of insurance!
when adding named drivers, try switching and swapping family members. when i added my mum it was more expensive than without her

Fekin 17 and own a classic mini 1.3L and was looking at insurance and its double the value of the car
To insure my 307sw 2L dT for 1.2k
Only got to use the box for 60 days to assess my driving then if all good they will discount my premium there and then (due to me being 28 in my first year driving lol) hopefully it'll be good as it's almost the 2 month mark.
I'm an insurance broker and you have to think like an insurer for example:
customer 1 has a fault claim
customer 2 has no fault claims but 5 non fault.
both premiums will increase because even though customer number 2s claims are all non fault. alarm bells are raised as to why he is prone to being hit. does he park badly causing cars to hit his unattended vehicle? does he drive in a way that he breaks hard and causes people to hit him in the rear?
not saying this is how you drive but you have to think of it from a risk point of view, future insurer's will see 'non fault accident' not the circumstances of the incident xx
Carlie Norwell yeah I completely understand you there. There's always the problems with the fine line of distinguishing who's genuinely been hit in a completely non fault way and someone who caused it but is still "non fault" to insurers.
it's why you still legally have to disclose them to insurers... if u have 10 non faults... your definitely doing something wrong 😂
also people don't realise if an accident is finished 90% their fault and 10% your fault. this doesn't mean it's a non fault. will be fault on both insurances because both insurances had to pay the percentage proportion of the claim. meaning your insurance company did not recover the full cost from third party so both at fault and both have fault claims on your record.

I'm going with insure the box so it's very reassuring to hear you speak highly of them, how many miles a year do you do roughly?
I only do 6 odd thousand miles in my car personally, but there are mileage calculators on the internet which could help you! I can't speak for you :)
It’s gonna be like that though your new on the road and you’ll have less road knowledge than other drivers reason of the high insurance
