Ranger Suarez looked damn close to a left-handed Greg Maddux (slight hyperbole, but not too far off lol) to start the year. In his first 10 starts was 9-0 with 1.36 ERA in first 10 starts/10-2 with a 1.83 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through June 25.
Giving him the benefit of the doutb that he was dealing with injurie(s) to some degree for the next 4 games before going on IL...healthy for first ~1/3 of the season, less than healthy for ~2/3 of season.
He's not Zach Wheeler or anywhere in the same universe, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. 2021 - 106 IP w/ 1.36 ERA, just another example. He's also gonna be in a contract year, and just hired Scott Boras as agent.
Agreed that he's our 4th/5th starter if we're looking at the back half of 2024/last we saw of him, but don't sleep on him is all I'm sayin. He's no slouch, nowhere close.

Phillies have an all around winning environment. Starting from extra deep pocket owner Mr John Middleton ( best sports owner Philly ever had ), GM Dave Dombrowski who already won a World Series with two other teams and great hitters. Pitcher Nola has me worried in that lately he has been giving up too many home runs.

Tipped you before on two things that wouldn't happen if you remember, even to the point of the prospects offered. If not, no biggie. Got told they were going after Luzardo on Friday by a former Phillies base coach. Boston had gone after him already, as had the Orioles. Keep in mind, I'm not a scout. I can tell you Miami wanted to deal him because he's hitting arbitration, has had "continuous odd injuries" and most importantly "teams had been throwing high offers at them." --- I know nothing about Jesus, but apparently the kid is absolutely nasty when dialed in and exactly what the Phils need. ---- The same person flat out told me that "other teams that you as a fan and others are upset about Dave not moving did not want Caba, or Bohm." --- I think that's his way of telling me Caba may have been offered out for Crochett and Tucker and it was a no. Feedback I got. Again, not looking for any love or recognition. Info tends to pan out though. ---- One thing, and my guy thinks it's far fetched - but he's heard talk of them feeling out KC for MJ Melendez.

I'm curious if we view Justin Crawford as our future in the outfield and I have no idea what position he would play because I don't watch minor league baseball, but if he was our future center fielder then would we even need Johan Rojas and could we just use him as a trade piece as well? I know we were disgusting potentially trading him at the deadline last season, but we never did. I just think it will be redundant having him and having someone like Brandon Marsh and Justin Crawford is on the way as well.

What other rotation stacks up in terms of depth and upside? Yankees and Mariners are the only 2 that I could see making an argument for. @ obviously the Dodgers and they’ll be even more potent with Ohtani pitching this year.
My point is, Nola might be the most overrated pitcher in the MLB and Ranger isn’t even really a starter. That is, if we’re being honest.
Who can get you passed the 6th inning beside Wheeler ? When Wheeler pitches we don’t hit.
And that’s the bottom line because Stone Cold said so !

@@jerrymarasco8878 Dodgers have 2 injury prone starters in Glasnow and Shohei atop their rotation. Yamamoto is completely unproven, and Snell is inconsistent. I’d still agree that they’re a top 5 rotation in MLB based on upside. Nola isn’t an ace, but he is one of the most consistent and durable starters in the game. Pencil him in for 10-15 wins and 190 + innings a year. You can’t say that about many starters in the league. Sanchez was among the league leaders in complete games last year. Given it was only 2, but that speaks to how much teams rely on the bullpen; see the dodgers in the playoffs this past season. Phillies starting pitching is excellent. The lineup needs to improve big time though.

@@jerrymarasco8878 the Dodgers lineup did what the Phillies lineup couldn’t do. They had excellent at bat after excellent at bat. They saw pitches, walked, and had timely hitting. Their bullpen was outstanding, and they got what they needed from 2 starters who likely won’t be with the team next season; Flaherty and Buehler. They deserved to win the World Series. If the Phillies are to compete for a World Series, the approach of their lineup needs to change almost entirely. Their pitching is as well set as anyone’s.
