    The Kazinti will only be seen in an animated format. The contract between Larry Niven and Gene Roddenberry states that. As long as it's a cartoon, Star Trek can have Kazinti in it.
    The story is that Roddenberry asked Niven if he could use the race from his novels in the Star Trek Animated show. Then Niven sent Gene a like 30 page contract that let him and the Star Trek IP use the Kazinti race as much as they like but only in a animated format.
    Remember the Kazinti are an IP own buy Niven.

    One of my favourite scenes from the S.C.E. books is when the crew of the USS da Vinci is at a paintball game and Cmdr. Sonya Gomez accidentally splashes her commanding officer (who wasn't in the game). To which, Capt. Gold says, "I'm going to have to tell Picard it finally happened"

    • @ellemueller

      "What" finally happened? Why does Captain Gold have to tell Picard?

    • @ThiagoMacieira

      @@ellemueller If you think Sonya Gomez and Picard, you have to remember the scene in "Q Who" when she spills hot chocolate all over the captain. So what "finally happened" was that she splashed her new CO with something. In the SCE books, Gold and Picard are Academy buddies, with Gold being a year or two ahead of Picard, so presumably Picard would have "warned" Gold about his Chief Engineer's "tendency" to splash superior officers.
      When she comes aboard the USS da Vinci in the first book, Cmdr. Kieran Duffy (also previously posted on the Enterprise) welcomes her with "Hey, hot Chocolate!"

    I like all the new shows, but one thing that bothers is that they are always introducing new races when they could have re-used a similar race from a previous series. In particular, I always thought they should have made Saru an Edosian. Since Discovery is a prequel, it would have been a good chance for an origin story for the Edosians.

    • @DanteYewToob

      C’mon… we can’t all pretend like we don’t know exactly why they avoid legacy races.
      Look at what happened when they updated the Klingons and in my opinion made them better. You’ll HAVE to update any alien to modern standards and the fans just hate ANY changes.
      Personally I like it because as Morty said “One of those Star Trek guys with the crap on the forehead…” because that’s all 90% of them were. Humans with weird foreheads and the occasional odd skin color.
      We need more ALIEN aliens and until the fandom can chill out a little they’ll probably keep avoiding legacy races.

      Weirder still, the upper parts just levitate, while only the lower segment conceals extra limbs. I always thought the overall appearance was cool, but the sectional separation (especially the levitating limbless torso) never worked for me - even when it first aired ( I was ten).

    Always dissappointed that Larry Niven didn't include a Pierson's Puppeteer along with Kzinti in his TAS episode. Definitely can't be portrayed by a "Guy in a Suit" live so it was a natural for animation.

    • @rtpoe
      @rtpoe 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That episode "The Soft Weapon" wasn't written specifically for ST. It was a pretty much straightforward adaptation of Niven's short story "The Slaver Weapon". Spock took the place of the Puppeteer character (both were vegetarians, so the carnivorous Kzinti wouldn't bother trying to deal with them). That was the only change of any significance between the two versions.

    I'd love to see the Caitians and the Edosians in live action / CGI. Caitians were seen in one of the Star Trek movies in the Federation Council scene, and shown in one magazine article (in Starlog?) so they had done the whole costume. Lt. Arex (an Edosian) was done in CGI for either New voyages Phase II or Star Trek Continues (both fan series). But several other aliens could be cool. There was a tripod silent mysterious alien species we saw only once in an Enterprise episode, very cool. And in 70's or 80/s Trek novels, a Lutran (otter-like) officer appeared at least in two novels, maybe others.

Kzinti are larger than humans, standing around 8 feet (2.4 m) tall and weighing around 500 pounds (230 kg). These tiger-sized bipeds have large membranous ears, a barrel-chested torso with a flexible spine, and large fangs and claws. One human gave an apt description of Kzin as "eight feet of death." It is interesting to note that in the planned 5th season of Star Trek Enterprise, they were going to have a Kzinti episode or series of them as a big bad for that season. Author Jimmy Diggs, according to Memory Alpha, wrote the premise and there was even a model of how thy might look. On another note, yet similar, no mention of M'ress? I know you mentioned Caitains (sp?), but she was another iconic for the animated series voiced by Majel Barrett and according to rumors, Gene actually asked her to reprise the role for the first movie to which she said no. Anyway, when I think of the animated series, Arex and M'ress are the two aliens that stood out the most (beyond seeing an Andorian in a Star Fleet uniform that left me wishing for one on any show since) and the avian species the Skorr. Isn’t Linus the Saurian basically like Sord’s species? He’s a big humanoid lizard and looks fairly similar.

      I don't know if Sord was supposed to be a Saurian. But I think the Gnalish might have been based on him from the Stargazer books by Michael Jan Freeman.

    Honestly Strange new worlds should have given Kirk his senior staff except Spock on the Faragut make the Faragut the same class as the TAS Bonaventure and make Mress and Eriks as ensigns in that ship along side Pike's Enterprise. Make the show interesting by alternating between crews.

    I would love to see Jimmy Diggs get to do his Kzinti episode or movie. P8 Blue and the Nasat were amazing in the SCE books, I would love to see her make a live action appearance as well as Arex. The Edosians and Caitians became such a fixture in my mind as a kid watching the Animated Series growing up in the 80s.

    The Megan who looks like a fawn or satyr is an *awesome* chance for a throwback to TOS toga-wearing false gods, *and* the TOS obsession with silly Pan flute & lyre musical styles. That could be a hilarious Lower Decks scene.

    The biggest problem with including these in SNW is that the Enterprise in TAS encountered these after Pike's day. Hopefully we could see these in the Starfleet Academy show (if we get one.)

    You completely forgot to mention and include the Caitians. Lt M'ress was an awesome character, appearing in a number of the animated episodes, even in one which the late Nichelle Nichols voiced her character Uhura as well. Caitians are mentioned in a number of novels, as are the Edoans (Lt Arex). Early publications (the Star Trek Concordance) clearly states that the species are Edoan, not Edosian, regardless of what they are called in Prodigy.

    While I agree about the Kzinti, there is the little matter of Larry Niven's copyright and the fact he said the Kzinti would not appear on TNG when he was asked. I don't know if he has changed his mind.

    Here's one more vote for the Vendorians, especially with the collapse of the Romulan Star Empire. One particular 'what-if?' idea I had was, "what if the Vendorians were planning to take over the Empire, then Shinzon's rise to power killed that plan?"
    Just a thought.

    Might Sord have been a Saurian? They have appeared in live action: ST:Discovery and the crew member Linus. Granted, Saurians do not have a crest, but maybe that is a subspecies characteristic.

    • @ellemueller
      @ellemueller 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can say that my father saw TAS as a teenager and all the Star Trek "nerds" at the time thought he must be a Saurian because of their familiarity with "SAURian Brandy" as a concept, and "dinoSAURs" as well, since it was obvious Sord wasn't a Gorn.
      Because of this, I also grew up thinking Sord is a Saurian, because my dad said so.
