Project 305 could be themed to a great beast terrorizing the jungle, Backlot could be themed to an expedition through the jungle in buggies and the indoor part could be a cave, and flight of fear could keep its theme as a secret government outpost in the middle of the jungle
I personally think it would work better to turn that entire back area into a sci-fi area. Backlot Stunt Coaster could become a ride through a city during an alien invasion, Anaconda could either be scrapped and replaced with a new Vekoma with a sci-fi theme or just be repainted and given a sci-fi theme in three station and Project 305 could be given a sci-fi theme and maybe they could place a crashed UFO on the ground inside the turnaround with a better themed station. I just think Flight of Fear and Backlot Stunt Coaster lend themselves better to having the same theme and the other rides back there would only have loose theming anyway so they can easily be fit to that same theme.
so excited for my next visit to KD! i think this will fit really good for it’s lineup!
I'm really Suprised that Kings Dominion is finally Geting a wing Coaster before Carowinds, Hersheypark, Six Flags Great Adventure, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, or even Dorney Park gets their versions.
IMHO a good next step for this park would be building a rail line under I-95 connecting to the csx line to dc and then purchase some nice diesel multiple units and running a train service between kings dominion and dc some calling at Fredericksburg and Alexandria on the way because it would connect the park with day trippers from dc where 30% of households are car free and weekenders from New York where even more are. Plus allowing more people to potentially work at the park.
Good video! A B&M/Mack Hyper, something either on the caliber as Mako, or even Hyperia, would definitely make KD Top 5. The only ones that it would really have to make a statement against are CP, SFMM, possibly Hershey & KI. Emphasis on the possibly. Intamin Giga, RMC Hybrid, B&M Floorless (a good one!), a really good woodie, a dueling good woodie, a launch b&m wing probably an arguable top 3 wing easily, and then a hyper.
I feel like the element at 4:51 is going under the radar. It sort of looks like a mini hive dive from Fury 325. If it is executed correctly it could be awesome!
If Cedar Fair keeps working with Vekoma, the hyper concept they showed for Energylandia would be perfect for Kings Dominion. I feel like they'll probably wait until 2031 though since Cedar Fair has a lot of other massive projects coming up throughout the rest of the 2020's.
Rapterra will definitely be GP King

That winged turnaround is really dope. I don't see new restraints for 305. I think they're worried about people riding who probably shouldn't and blacking out and slamming their face or something. OTSR prevent that.
yes i passed out on 305 once and the guy next to me said he saw me slump forward, it would be super dangerous in my opinion to only have lap bars on that thing, and if someone blacks out and slumps all the way forward without the over the shoulder restraints to catch them, that could be real bad. I think the question would be more if something like Maverick or storm Runner could get those new gen intamin restraints because we know skyrush did
Yea I absolutely agree maybe new trains with the new theme the shoulder harness is a absolute must, people blacking out and the extremely intense left and right effects in the banking area or the ride man they just throw you around and the only thing stopping you from smashing heads with the person next to you are those shoulder restraints

Raptera's layout reminds me a lot of Pipelines...
I agree about the lack of "near miss" elements and wish this coaster had a few more inversions, but I would imagine this design makes it more family friendly. Also, this really should have 3 trains to increase capacity.
I think that this new B&M Launch Coaster will do some terrific wonders to Kings Dominion, and we can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon after the new coaster. 😁😁❤️❤️👌🏻

honestly great fit, their other two biggest thrill coasters are super high thrill and may be too intense for the gp, this works perfectly
Next coaster - B&M invert. Need an invert since volcano is gone. Only large scale park without one.

KD is a ghosttown often . Saturday's on a perfect day in July I-305, Twisted Timbers and other major coasters are walk ons to 10 to 15min max , at the height of the day. Those wait times aren't b/c of great ops, it's that the park is not busy. The coaster thus didn't need 3 trains and only has 20 riders. The execs were telling you their expectations and future thoughts on KD. They don't think they need higher capacity of 32 rider/3 train wing coaster. they got a lower cost B&M, 2 trains and just 20 rides, which saved them money. KD is not a top 1/2 priority park in the chain that's why it's gotten what it has the last decade or better put not received, compared to other parks,
KD is my home park. 305 is fine how it is. I’m so sick of the lap bar takeover. Some of us like to feel snug 🤷♀️ Plus, 305 is very different from other coasters of its kind. The quick, snappy transitions, the forces, and the amount of people who black out on it makes its restraints perfectly fine how they are. If it was just an airtime machine like every other giga, then it would be a different story, but it’s not. Those OTSRs probably make it way more comfortable for people who have never ridden it and don’t know what to expect (aka, their neck and torso aren’t getting jerked around during those transitions, and they aren’t flopping around in the wind when they black out). It’s already a ride that a good chunk of people find too intense, let’s not alienate people further by removing the restraints that keep your torso upright and support your WHOLE body. We want people to actually ride 305.
as someone who's never ridden i305 or been to virginia, 305 seems like one of the few coasters that ACTUALLY needs otsrs... i don't want whiplash to be a part of my experience lol
I know it would further throw off the lopsided balance of KD but what I'd love to see next would be an expansion behind the waterpark that connected the plaza by P305 with Apple Zapple and Twisted Timbers. I know that would be a huge expansion but it would make the layout of the park significantly better. There would no longer be these weird dead ends.
That said, I definitely agree with your comment Brandon of something big needing to go on the west side of the park. And really that also should be an expansion and not just a single ride. Grizzly and the water rides ought to have more going on around them, though it would be nice if the area was still generally forested.
Hershey park replaced the trains for sky rush. I could see that for 305. It would make it better

Agree! I love this layout much more than the old leaked plan. Near miss wouldve been great but personally I still rank Wild Eagle very high without it due to its location.. my only worry is that it will feel very barren when the ride opens. The animation shows tons of trees that are already not there
I believe that the biggest problem with Project 305 is to aggressive for gp maybe the theming may draw more attention to it and people would give it a second chance
My second home park, BGW is my first, and I got a notification from the app quite a long time ago, it looks great.

I agree with most of your predictions, but Project 305 having lapbars would not be safe 😅
With it being launched a 3rd train is totally not needed except to sit in the maintenance shed. Now that means when a train needs refurbed it will be 1 train ops, which will suck. So hopefully they do that in the off season only.

I love this for Kings Dominion, and I know that I’m gonna be here soon after this coaster opens.
But I can only feel that this plus the company merger is spelling doom for SFA. I mean, this year is their biggest for investment with Steamtown and the water coaster, but it’s not the same as a new thrill coaster in terms of bringing people into the park.
Top 10?? A giga, hyper, rmc, launch/wing, 2 woodies, 2 launch and a floorless. That’s top 5
Kings Dominion desperately needed a new coaster, perhaps more so than any of the major parks in the country. It's a great park but after you look past their top 2 coasters in 305 and Twisted Timbers, the rest of their roller coasters are either average or above average and nothing to write home about. Many people are not fans of Grizzly and Anaconda. I think the new winged coaster looks really good and will probably be the 3rd best ride in the park.
I agree that a hyper coaster would be ideal in 2026 or 2027. It would definitely help balance out the coaster lineup.

I think after this KD needs to work on their entrance. Not just the gates but also the parking lot. The lot itself is awfully rough. Full of pot hots and just bad. Also there are only 2 entrances. Which is more than most. However both are way out of the way for people. The only one that is easy to get to is if your coming from i95. If your coming from anywhere else you have to go over i95 and go through backroads to get to it. It's very complex and complicated and it doesn't need to be. Just make one big entrance on the road where the gas stations are just like Carowinds. So many people probably skip out just because it's so complex to get to
I would love to see a new generation mack hyper, something like Hyperia
Rising from the ashes of the Volcano comes the newest thrill at Kings Dominion.
Project 305 gets new trains will likely be bought from Mack. CF probably intended to have Zamperla touch it.
I hear ya on the capacity. I did some math on it and we’re probably looking at 800 / hour.
B&M is incredibly successful!
Shame this only has 3 inversions, but it'll work well for the park in contrast to P-305. It's longer than Volcano at least, and that probably matters more to the GP than any other stat.
If the new Six Flags decides to get rid of SFA and relocates the Gotham City coasters to other parks, I wouldn't be shocked if their Intamin hyper is relocated to KD. It could be tucked in behind TT and wouldn't be a bad fit with a few tunnels to break up the straight sections.

This should be a fun ride. But this just isnt enough to make me want to travel from Florida to go ride it.
A Hyperion style Intamin MegaCoaster would be perfect.
What if a Vekoma Hyper
I think a Mack Hyper will be a better fit because there’s none in the US (as I know of)
I suspect they will have to do something with anaconda and the broken down delirium before they build a hyper .

In opinion hell no this not a worthy replacement for Volcano by a long shot but this will due. This record can easily be crushed if someone wanted to do so. But the question is what are they gonna do about anaconda?

I think the next one will be a B&M as well. They have been known to give discounts if you buy several. Look at gatekeeper and valravn. As for what, who knows. I doubt a hyper because you got apollos chariot in BG, no invert because of alpengiest. KD and BG go out of their ways not to copy one another.
They can get away with a hyper cause they are more modern now compared to Apollos chariot with its pre drop and b&m flyer is good alternative to a invert

I don’t think this layout is worth having three trains, unless it had separate load and unload areas like Wildcat’s Revenge. Only 51 feet longer than Thunderbird, which also has two trains. There’s three factors in roller coaster capacity: number of riders per train, dispatch interval, and number of dispatches per hour. Assuming Rapterra has a sixty second dispatch interval, it would clock in at 1200 pph. 70 sec dispatch? Would be around 1,028 pph. If this ride was running three trains, the third train would be sitting on the transfer track extensively after its run while the train ahead loads/unloads and the other train is cycling. Having a third train would be pointless in this scenario.

You probably can’t run 305 without the straps due to guest blacking out. Or at the very least greying out.

Is there any leg/head chopper elements?
I don’t see P305 getting new trains. Trains are expensive and with getting a new coaster, the new theme for P305, not to mention everything else that goes into a major anniversary year, I doubt new trains would be in the budget. I doubt they will have the time or budget to change the theme for Backlot and FoF for 2025. They are likely going to need to spread out changes to theming on existing rides over multiple years. Doing all of that in 1 year just seems like not enough time and too much money in 1 off season.
The near miss elements could be the trees that are all around the coaster

I'm sure it'll do well, but wing coasters aren't that great to me. And in comparison to Volcano it feels generic. But I'm sure the GP will eat it up.
TO me this is a let down! Why not Keep the mountain and have the coaster follow the old line and blast thru the top like Volcano then maybe wind around the mountain then go into the lay out and Yellow track to pay homage, for starters! This looks pretty forceless and bland! imo

I think it looks like a great add. Coaster variety is a good thing and I’m glad it’s not another Hyper/Giga. I find those coasters so boring am tired of every prediction for every park being one of those. I’m glad they went with Something interesting and different. It will definitely bring people into the park.
