Father Ted is set on tiny windswept Craggy Island off the Irish west coast, which for no adequately explored reason now has a Chinatown - the whole show is great but this episode, "Are You Right There, Father Ted?" is magnificent

Great upload KS. It was an Irish/British famous tv show called Father Ted where the worst priests were banished to a small tiny island with only a few people living there, and where the priests couldn't do any damage. Father Ted was sent there due to his gambling and Dougal was sent there because he was too stupid to be allowed to preach anywhere else and Father Jack was an alcoholic. The tv show was about their everyday life, which usually ended up in turmoil, a very funny tv show which is well worth a watch. Love from Ireland
It's 100% Irish. The only English actor was Frank Kelly and he had lived in England since childhood but his family were Irish as you may be able to tell by the name. Was a massive hit in Britain for sure though. Also in Australia and New Zealand.
@serendpity3478 they refused to make the show in Ireland as it was blasphemy and is why It was made by channel 4, a British broadcasting channel and entirely funded by them. So in that sense it is a british tv show.
For context: Ireland is a very largely white part of the world. Dublin is the only real multicultural melting pot (a few other parts have increased in diversity in the last 20 years or so but mostly just larger towns etc). But generally it's a very standardly Irish white population, most of whom have had had families there for generations. Other races and ethnicities are even more rare once you go into the more rural communities. Father Ted is set on a very rural Irish community on a tiny rugged island off the mainland of Ireland...so the chances of anybody living there from a non-white Irish background is very unlikely. It makes the sudden appearance of the Asian family right outside their window all the more entertaining. It also explains Father Ted's shocked voice when he says "There's a Chinatown on Craggy Island?"
Not for long with all the illegals from the middle east.. remember when Obama dropped all them bombs in Syria and Afghanistan? Ireland will no longer be white soon

There's a pretty substantial cut between Ted leaving the room and Ted coming outside, so word doesn't really spread THAT quickly. But honestly? The idea that it did is even funnier. The show as a whole is a masterpiece.
