It goes even further though man, with history and science being manipulated and taught as facts in school I'm ashamed to say this liberal bowel movement doesn't seem to be going away just yet. Well, atleast we have the memories of such openly free comics and a sense of humour that I'm proud to say offends most of the liberals online 😂 ps a quick shout out to the new statesman, and yes, we really need brass eye back!!

And the great thing is, much of it is true! We all know the Church is far from pure, so it's amazing fun to see it being sent up. Excellent acting all round from some true Irish stalwarts; Dermot Morgan (RIP), Ardal O'Hanlon, Pauline McLynn and Frank Kelly (RIP). @@dylc5604 Not even just Irish life - I think we all know a few mad old bigots and some young ones maybe. As kids my parents were thinking of selling the family home. An Indian family came to have a look. At that time their neighbour was a real "Alf Garnett" man who made it known he didn't want to live nextdoor to ...I won't use the horrible words he used ..."they'll be worshipping their Gods in the garden!"he said. A comment so rediculous we did laugh about it. The irony is that when he passed away and his wife (who he was equally charming to) moved out, their house was sold to a lovely Indian couple, doctors with two kids who get on very well with my parents and visited my mum in hospital. Years later they happened to have another older male neighbour of similar views getting very stressed when a Muslim family moved into the street. My mum is friendly anyway but made a point of talking to them. Growing up they were the only Irish Catholic family in a small English village, and also got a bit of that as there were similar attitudes toward Irish immigrants at the time. Oh and as a bonus; They once had an older male neighbour (bit of a patriarchal theme here) complaining about children in the street chalking on the pavements and"making it look like a council estate!" but that's good old fashioned snobbery rather than Racism. 🤦🏻‍♀️ People are just people for goodness sake. I love Father Ted, and think this scene is probably one of the cleverest bits of social satire I've seen. 😊

  • @artistjoh

The funniest part of this episode is the “Hitler” scene. The great thing about Father Ted is that it is a quite surreal universe, but it manages to mock very real issues and could get away with it in deeply Catholic Ireland because of the surreal absurdities of the Craggy Island universe. In this episode it tackles some of the right wing attitudes that have been an unspoken and hidden part of some parts of the Catholic Church. But they never throw the social issues in your face, you can simply enjoy it for the quirky humor. But there are depths within the show for those who want to look deeper. Like Fawlty Towers, Father Ted is regarded as one of the greatest of comedy shows.
BTW, if you want to watch episodes, a little background. Craggy Island is a sort of “end of the Earth” type place where the church sends priests they want to hide or punish. One is there because of alcoholism and depravity, one is there because he was caught trying to steal money (why he sometimes says “the money was just resting in my account”) and the other one is there because he is a halfwit. Their housekeeper, Mrs Doyle is insane. And the islanders are only half insane. Stories usually involve the constant scheming by Ted while he pretends he would never do anything like that, and of course, he can never succeed. The day after the last scene of the last episode of season 3 was filmed Dermot Morgan, who played Ted, died of a heart attack.

I live in a ''medium'' sized town in Ireland, and the reason it's even more funny, is because everyone knows each other in town and word spreads fast lmao
Like when I first moved here, the banker knew me and my partner and who my parents were. Just how it is xD

Father Ted is one of the funniest shows around, even when you've seen an episode several times, you still end up crying with laughter 🤣

I don’t know if you’ve realised but you just provided the perfect social commentary for every open minded, tolerant and loving person on this planet. Who would have thought that Father Ted could have had such an impact! Love this buddy!

Apparently the Catholic church in Ireland wasnt happy with the show and put pressure on the broadcaster. The irony is that it was probably the best PR the church had received in years. Being able to laugh at your self is incredibly powerful

Father Ted is brilliant and silly like the best of Monty Python. My favourites: Speed parody (milkman) and cigarettes, alcohol and rollerblading. Also the 3 ages of Elvis. But any episode is laugh out loud. Enjoy!

I was so happy with your reaction, and also jealous that you were getting to see this for the first time. I've seen this thousands of times and it still cracks me up. They didn't show the part with the perfectly formed square of dirt on the window.

You speak wise words sir. Father Ted highlighted the shortfalls in society, through satire and irony.
