Finally a real-world, real-life video on the experience of the monitor. Clean workspace, one cable. Price is painful, but the build is much better than other plastic monitors.
great take, totally agree on that, as a software engineer that spends 10-14 hours a day... Purchased a iMac 27' exactly because of those reasons... had an external display, speakers, MacBook etc... replaced it all with an iMac, that's it, one device on the desk, one cable, nothing more.
"I truly do not care about the quality of someone's webcam. And with this webcam, it looks just as shitty as every other webcam. Which means, in my opinion, it's actually perfect." Couldn't have said it better myself. Loving this real-world view into this product, it deserves a lot of attention.
Quality of life is huge. We spend so much Damn time working in these spaces so clutter on a desk easily transitions to clutter in the mind. Great vid, like the less spec driven discussion style
Absolutely spot on! Anyone that’s not interested industrial design, can a pick a ton of horrible, cheap plastic monitors to choose from! Good luck to them! This is absolutely what I’d choose. Apple all the way!💯🔥🔥🔥
I really enjoyed that review- you’ve gotten to the heart of what matters. Few reviewers actually mention why they need it, and you’ve covered it. Rigidity and numbers are what most of the other reviewers fixate on. We live in a world where we buy things without seeing them anymore and shop based on a spec sheet. I think the experience is underrated.
I have been saying the same thing all day to my wife. Quality of life is everything here. Man, you nailed exactly how I feel in this video. Your words are just as perfect as this display. I was itching to get home and create something all day. I felt withdrawals being away from this thing. The speakers with music playing and creating while listening to them is beyond words. I’m in love with this thing. I’ve been going through video after video hoping somebody felt the same about all of this as me. On paper it’s definitely alarming for the price, but it’s one of those “you have to experience to understand it” things. Apple got it right. It’s worth the $1600+ and even at $2000 after the experiences I’ve had all day yesterday and today with it… I would pay the extra premium without hesitation. I subscribed bro! Hope you get this channel moving! Content was refreshing and dope. ✊🏾
You gave me the feature I needed to convince my wife to support the purchase. I told her “I know the aesthetics would make me very happy.” But now I have the words. QUALITY OF LIFE. Muahahahahah I need a frictionless studio.
I have been looking for reviews to get the regular stand, height or vesa option, thank you for this review, I hate how we have to permanently choose an option now.
UFFFFF Finally a sane person who speaks reality and not the technical data of this monitor. Sometimes I think that technology advances so much together with the criteria of others that everything becomes a distressing cloud and you think you are alone but I see this video and I know that at least there is another who thinks like me
There’s always a whole dimension to ownership that 99.9% of reviewers completely miss, so thank you for pointing that out. I wholeheartedly agree, and am looking forward to receiving my Studio Monitor and M1 Max Studio next week. I can’t wait to reduce my mess as I live on the road in a motorhome as a photo creative. I want the big viewing area without all the, as you say, accoutrement on my small desk.
Thanks for making maybe the only video out there talking about your actual experience with the Studio Display and why what it does offer is great instead of complaining about what it doesn’t offer. Bravo!
So the complaints really aren’t about the webcams itself, but rather how a monitor with a crappy webcam is so expensive; being that the latest iPads and iPhone front cameras are better and cheaper than the monitor. I think it’s more about principal than the actual camera. That if you’re paying premium, you should be getting premium.
I’m going to be honest. I’m 56. I’ve been in my industry for 40 years (video games) and I am ruthless with my time. This video popped up on my feed and at first I thought “Oh great, what is this kid going to tell me about anything that everyone else hasn’t?” Well guess what? You hit it out of the park. This is better than everyone’s review. Yes, everyone’s. And your style is refreshing, honest, straightforward, no b.s., just real world. Bravo. I’ve subscribed. I expect you will become very successful on TH-cam, if that’s your aim.
At $1600 USD, the Studio Display is a tough sell when the previous generation 27” iMac started at $1700 USD, had a similar panel and included a computer. I wish the studio display was in the same ballpark as the old 27” Thunderbolt Display that was sold for $1,000. Heck, if it was the same price as LG’s 27” 5k display then I think it’d be an easier sell.
I agree. It's actually a downgrade but people that buy it praise it. I guess if you hold out for 8 years than anything looks good for a refresh. At least the iMac was a legitamate upgrade after the wait. For $1600, this is not really worth it.
Holy crap this is probably the best real-world, real-life review and scenario of the Studio Display and I’ve literally seen ALL of the other ones the past few days. Your comment about the webcam and people who use mirrorless cameras trying too hard absolutely hit the nail on the head. I already sub to your main channel but I’m subbing to this one too, and you convinced me to get this thing. Thanks for the bluntness, it’s such a breath of fresh air from the other content creators.
a clean setup makes it easier to focus on your work, without subconscious distractions. a clean workspace makes you productive and is highly underrated. that was the point of an office, before we all went remote.
I totally feel you, your review is 100% in touch with my reality and the importance of our workspaces assessed in their entirety rather just component by component and feature by feature. Love this review!!
Patrick this is exactly how I’ve felt about this display, even though I haven’t got it yet but I really appreciate the real life honesty and matter of factness you provide. 👊🏽keep on being you bro.
I’ve never heard the iloud micros, but if you think the monitor makes dedicated speakers unnecessary, I would say you’re not someone who really values sound quality in the first place. If you’re an average user that just uses speakers for general audio playback without headphones the monitor is a great solution. If you’re someone that actually enjoys listening to music, no way. My Vanatoo T1E speakers take up space, but the stereo imaging, bass, and overall musicality could never be replaced by these built in monitor speakers.
iLoud micros are some of the best desktop monitors you can buy. plenty of reviews - I also have a full out HiFi system I've built. the Studio Display speakers do a great job, particularly with space and surround. I don't miss the micros. I also own 10+ pairs of headphones. I love audio shit.
Oh my good gosh you are the only person that have Spoken any sense about the studio display, I’ve been waiting over seven years for a Mac display I’m still using the thunderbolt two Mac display because there was nothing else on the market. Thank you thank you thank you for this review it was a great watch. Peace from London
Oh amen. The messy wire solution is literally priceless. Great review, again. Happy to see this channel (deservedly) growing. I’m sold. Ordering one of these now.
Great video Patrick! Im using 5K iMac and just bought Mac Mini M2 Pro and want the Studio Display to go with it but every video out there has made me look elsewhere. My thoughts are exactly the same as yours here. I have now made my decision to buy the studio display!! Thanks you.
Fantastic Review. Couldn't agree more, I swapped a 4k Dell for this and the studio display kills it. The standard Mac screen is much sharper. The standard stand is fine. The smart corners work every time. It wakes up perfectly. The camera and mic are fine and I trust Apple to improve it and being able to adjust brightness from the keyboard is brilliant. The old Dell was an exercise in frustration. I had to keep turning it off just to wake it up. Smart corners didn't work properly. I had an LG ultrafine, but the USB socket snapped off from the board and it was cactus. The Mac Studio will last for years. I love it.
OMG I had the same issue with a UltraFine! Went to unplug the cable after being there it’s whole life and pulled the port out from the socket. Totally dead now. I will gladly pay Apples price for this new studio display, given in my studio I have 8 30 inch cinema displays still in use from 2004! working perfectly. My team refuses to give them up. I wish we’d get a true matte option at some point, the nano texture fuzzies the picture. Come on apple….
If I had the choice between buying the LG for 1300 (or for whatever they go these days) and the Studio Display with the stand for 2k, I would go for the Studio Display. The image retention is quite annoying on the LG UltraFine! But since I already own that thing, I'll probably stick with it for a couple more years and hope for an upgraded version of the Studio Display, that'll hopefully include mini LED!
I went for the Studio Display simply for the build quality. £300 for that additional refinement with no desk wobble was an absolute no-brainer for me. Yes, its still expensive but not if you compare it to that LG display in my opinion.
I was going to buy your previous display you had, but after hearing your review I change my mind. Going down to Mexico tomorrow to sell and organ to pay for the monitor tomorrow.
You are one of the very very very few TH-camrs that made me click on your account just to see more videos. Sadly, this was your only video. I cannot wait to see more from you honestly. This review was so “real life” and so on point. I was so excited when the studio display came out, but seeing all the “pro” TH-camrs talk shit about it made me question my decision as to whether i should buy it or not. And watching your video now, i am back to my initial decision, i am going to buy this for sure! Thank you so much for this review. No one else even remotely mentioned how this affects the quality of life and makes you feel like you want to create something. Seriously, amazing job and I can’t wait to see more from you!
Hey man, I appreciate the review and you brought up some points on the quality of the monitor I hadn't considered. I do have some counterpoints though. The first and most egregious is that you either didn't do your research or straight up lied by saying there aren't competitors at this resolution (9:15). The LG Ultrafine 5K has been out for years and has a webcam and speakers while its design philosophy is highly subjective. That's the next point. The other reviews you complain about aren't wrong, they're objective. Your review is completely subjective. This monitor works perfectly for people such as yourself because you had an extremely specific goal in mind. You have plenty of other Apple tech you want to interface with and you want a clean space that takes no effort. There are thousands of VESA mounts out there that can be configured into as clean or even cleaner setups than what you have, the only thing is doing that takes a bit of effort and Apple doesn't. My third point is that of the webcam. People care about their webcam not because of its quality, but because of its inclusion. I work on a lot of program scripting/data analysis and 3D simulation, so my hardware is usually as close to the bleeding edge as I can afford. I am buying monitors for color accuracy, brightness, and compatibility (how the monitor fits into my setup). I don't care about a webcam any more than you do. However, if I buy one [a monitor] for $1600 and they brag up and down about the premium quality and innovative engineering, then I expect EVERY SINGLE PART of that monitor to be the absolute best in class. We are talking about a monitor that's $400 more expensive than the LG Ultrafine and $900 more expensive than a quality 4K monitor. So, if that's the OBJECTIVELY GOOD competition and they offer everything Apple does, then every facet of this monitor had best be the best that a consumer can get. But it's not. The webcam is subpar, the speakers are great yeah, but so is a white JBL speaker at 1/4th the price, the stand is non-removable or adjustable (a fact that matters for people with static desks), and the power cord that cannot be removed. All of these objective facts I have laid out for you (and more that I'm too lazy to type) are why many reviewers didn't get it wrong. I'm happy you're glad with your purchase, but that doesn't make you right. Just because you feel different that doesn't make you right and others wrong. People care about stats and specs for a reason. That's the entire foundation of the market system, companies offer products based on the wants and needs of the consumer base. Those wants and needs are always improving and upgrading, resulting in better products and competition. If we shouldn't care about specs then why would Apple and others spend billions on telling us how good those specs are? There are plenty of consumers such as yourself who only care about the impact of the product on their immediate lifestyle and so you buy it without hesitation. However, the vast majority of consumers (most of which could not justify buying this product) realize that a product such as this, at such a premium price, must perform a premium service. For example, this is comparable to buying a new car. The majority of people are looking for a good price to performance and as much reliability as possible. Then there are those who see a more expansive "premium" car that costs 30% more, but looks sleek and is by an extremely popular company. To most people that sleek car is an objectively bad deal. The MPG is average, the speaker system is "great" but not an extra $500 "great" and to boot, you can't even change the oil if it needs changing. But for some, like you, this car speaks to them and their lifestyle. So they buy it and defend it to death, even though they don't need to. Bonus round: In case you didn't know, at launch, the Studio webcam had a real problem correctly portraying darker objects....including skin tones. So there are definitely some people (myself included) that care about camera quality when it comes to presenting themselves to others, or editing webcam captures with darker objects within them.
hopefully they make machines that can drive 5K at 120hz. right now TB4 doesn't even support it, which means when there's a refresh unless they go down to 4K, no mac's will even support the 5K 120hz display.
I completely agree with you! This is the perfect display for every Apple user if you want a 5k display but also for people who are in that eco-system (like myself) and can't spend $5-6k on the 32" XDR Apple Pro display! (Also like myself!)
Outstanding take and probably the most honest and balanced! I've seen the Apple Studio's webcam at the Apple Store and it looks good to me and if Apple is actually working on an update to improve picture quality then it'll be even better. I think the angst and ire some people have about the webcam is that Apple's charging $1,599 for a panel with a so-so (or completely subpar as some have said) webcam. I can't necessarily say I disagree but I also share your opinion that having a super hi-res, 4K/8K, HDR webcam isn't a high priority for most people. Maybe if Apple were claiming that this webcam could substitute a webcam for TH-camrs then sure, that's worth getting upset over. But for many of us who don't even use a webcam during Zoom calls (I don't) this won't be a priority. But again, I believe it's more about the price of the panel versus the effort Apple put into the webcam. Apple's blessing and curse is that they only make high quality products so when they seemingly phone it in for one or more aspects of their products it turns into fodder for the haters and pundits. That's not to say they don't have a point but I think they're making it out to be the primary catalyst for why people should consider not buying it when the webcam shouldn't be the be-all, end-all of a panel that has so much more to offer. My guess is people that need a high quality webcam already have this covered. I also agree that a high quality webcam isn't a necessity or a priority for a lot of people. Have you seen interviews on cable news lately?! I've seen entire shows with talking heads waxing political with video and audio quality that is so bad that I can only imagine they're using a flip phone camera. I'd argue that most everyone are less concerned with the quality of your webcam and more concerned about your internet connection so you don't pause and glitch like Max Headroom.
revisited this video as I was thinking of doubling up on this monitor. This reminded me why I bought this monitor in the first place. You are pretty much one of the few people I even follow anymore. There is a digital artist that explained it pretty much how you have and that’s really it. Do the work. It helps you do the work. I get people have to make a living by being the contrarian ect. Thanks for what you do. The old acnonym. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Peace!
I've written like 2-3 comments about others' videos in my entire life, but this video resonated with me so much that I had to comment. I 100% relate to and agree with everything you said. Seeing all these other reviews of this monitor make me feel like an idiot for buying two of them. Thanks for this assurance that I'm not the only one who feels this way about their workspace. You have a new subscriber. Best of luck with your channel!
You are the real deal man. I came across your video and you are speaking for the real world designers that need just enough to get the work done, i am sort of waiting for them to come out with the second version of this display because i just got a BenQ about 8 months ago. great and realistic review....looking forward to more videos!
Literally working on a very similar video right now. People forget the roots of apples design. It is meant to ignite creativity by separating you from the tech. It’s supposed to just work. Which is my my next talking point. I couldn’t use my new max studio yesterday bc it would not accept my max master mouse and keychron keyboard to get beyond the initial setup screen. Just got back from picking up a magic keyboard and mouse, in white, bc it looks better with my desk setup, even though I normally gravitate towards black Anyways! Right on dude. Found you on twitter 🤘🏼
@@sloppysteaks yeah i figured that would have been the trick. Of course i couldn't find it. Spent a year living in a van full time, that thing could be anywhere at this point 🫠
quite agree with what you describe. For me, one of the best alternative is the 600€ Huawei Mateview 28.2 3:2 4K screen. It is HDR, jt has super accurate color out of the box, it is bigger, it has integrated HP, it has much thinner bezel and a very "Apple" like design, integrates also USB-C hub... It is basically as good or better in any metrics or as good in esthetics. Just missing the webcam...that you have on your laptop anyway.
it's a bit darker at 500 nits and I've heard about some color issues with that panel. but ultimately it's still 4K and its a 3:2 aspect ratio so it wouldn't work for me. I'm a sucker for that correct pixel to pixel ratio. no scaling! I also need the speakers/webcam.
@@sloppysteaks yeah, yeah, MzcOS scaling sucks so there is no other way. I was more speaking for Windows user where there is no scaling issue as 4K or 5K is indistinguishable at this viewing distance until 30" size anyway. For the brightness, what do you mean? The Apple Studio is not HDR anyway so actually the Huawei is better in this regard. And anyway, standard brightness indoor is around 120 nits for color accurate creation tasks... But yeah, there is a reason why 5K screen only exists/are necessary for Mac...
@@jeanbaptistelabelle HDR as a label is a bit of a joke anyways, even Dolby Vision LED TV’s will hit 400 nits peak. Only a small handful of TV’s that cost an arm and a leg going higher, or they’re cheaper brands. The cool thing about Apple is they do EDR which means the Studio Display is pushing HDR brighter than the vast majority of actual HDR monitors. Look up EDR and Apple it’s wild. HDR looks crazy good on this display, and it supports/displays HDR content natively. 5K isn’t about pixel density. It’s so you’re actually viewing 4K while editing properly. I’ve always had issues editing 4K on a 4K monitor and then seeing it on a full screen 4K display and it’s soft from a punch in or plugin. This way with 5K I know my timeline monitor is how it will look on output. You definitely notice 4K vs 5K because you sit so close to it.
@@sloppysteaks OK, what can I tell you. Physics is physics. It is admittid that someone with 20:20 (not 10, 20 visual acuity) can distinguish up to 60 pixel per degree. For a 4K 27"monitor, this is if you get closer than 18 inches or 45cm. As you are further aways, it is just physically impossible to see any difference between 4K and 5K. I understand the point of having 4K running into a workspace with tools around. But it is hard for me to see in Premiere or Resolve how you could have a 4K video playing natively on the screen, but NOT in full screen mode with still time line and useful tools layout on a 5K screen where only remains very little space around. I would ne interested to see a picture how you do that because I cannot foresee. For the rest, if you change to HDR, you cannot calibrate the screen anymore so I doubt many will switch to HDR for video editing except professional. I am not sure if it is not all subjective on your side here
I respect your opinion regarding TH-camr’s office space. Super honest instead of creating a fake studio environment. That’s why I always liked Casey Neistat. Yes, his studio was organized, but it was functional, not pretty. And also yes! I agree. Webcams are not something people should care about. I don’t give two shits what someone looks like remotely or what I look like. I care about a real camera’s lens, but not when I’m video chatting. The fact that any computer has a camera in it, I’m good with that. But also, if I’m thinking practically about what most people are complaining about, it’s the fact that none of this is new. I’m still using a 5K Retina Display iMac (purchased in 2014?) that looks just as good as the brand new 5K Studio Display in 2022. So I get it. It’s not new. But… whatever, it functions as an iMac display.
First time seeing one of your videos. This is so what I’ve been saying the whole time I love my studio display. You hit the nail on the head. Also Fresca is BOMB. I’m officially not only subscribed but absolutely hooked and I’m so excited to see more content from you :) you rock bro!!! Great vid
Btw!!! What colour profile do you use on your display? So far I’ve had mine set to ‘Studio Display’ but I’ve people talk about other displays like “Display p3” or idk what else. I so far haven’t had a problem with the basic settings but maybe I just don’t know better!!!
Great perspective, thanks. Unfortunately, at this cost, as a music person, I’m not being facetious when I ask if you could recommend something that’s useable but costs, say, 1/4th or 1/5th the price. At least something that’s broadly compatible with the Mac Studio and Mini.
Beautiful video. I am still waiting for mine to come in but I do have a Pro Display XDR so I have to look at this monitor with a different view since it’s so much less $
Thank for your point of view. Love it. Do you place the Studio Display on Mac Studio all time? Do you worry about the dust would enter Mac Studio from bottom due to the big ventilation fans inside?
This is an awesome honest overview of the appeal of the monitor. I totally get the convenience/efficiency factor of it being right for one’s workspace, and that is pretty priceless. Personally I still think it’s overpriced and it could have been a market shifting product of it was like $1,000-$1,200, but that’s just my opinion. Keep up the great videos!
It’s one of those things you immediately understand the price when you see it/use it. The materials and build are just insane. But I get it, it’s a luxury item for sure.
@@sloppysteaks I went to the Apple store yesterday to see it in person and it was pretty stunning. I just bought the Dell ultrasharp because I can’t budget an extra $1000 for just a monitor (also I like Dell monitors for my workflow), but if you have the money invest it, that makes total sense to me (I mean I literally have two apple watches because of convenience)
Great Video, Patrick! Mine is on the way and will arrive tomorrow but unfortunately my Mac Studio will not arrive for another 2 weeks due to a custom configuration. But one question: I noticed you also had a BenQ ScreenBar Plus light. I have one that I use with my current 27 inch 2017 iMac and I want to continue to use it with the ASD. Have you tried it with your ASD? Does it fit correctly and not cover the front camera? I know the bezel is smaller on the ASD compared to the iMac, so I’m just curious if I will have to fiddle around with the BenQ to make it fit correctly. Thanks again for the awesome video! Wishing you and your viewers a happy and safe holiday season!🙌🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
this monitor allows you to focus on what you want to do not on the stuff you need to wrestle with to make it happen. A plastic monitor will leave you with a low-grade annoyance instead of focus. You're going to be looking at a monitor for the next 5-10 years. Get the best one you can afford and makes your life easier.
"It's my own brain getting in the way of something simple". This phrase summarizes why you're just lazy and this is just a crappy attempt to justify this "failure" of a product. You could just invest some time in fixing your cables, getting everything neat so you would not have this "mental block" and get shit done. If it is just your brain getting in the way for the picture quality and THAT you can overcome and just get this monitor, why wouldn't you just clean up your mess and get this done?
You do not have to explain it to me. Makes total sense to me. As a designer my desk needs to be super clean. The only thing I will say is I do prefer the vesa that comes from the back. In my setup you actually do not see the arm as its symetrical to the center. Honestly I lucked out on an xdr at the price of the studio display (long lucky I am story). That being said I get it. I can not function on a desk with lots o’ crap. Use a homepod for sound or speakers of 14” mbp. As I have told you in prior commenting stuff I enjoy your reviews / comments because its not canned and it is about user need not geekbench. OMG stop with the 120. As a graphic designer it’s not even necessary. Need is the ultimate sales pitch to a creative not a reviewer that buys crap and puts it in a corner.
Thanks for the great video. I agree with everything you said, except the part about webcam. I mean, it's freaking pixelated! I was bracing myself for the quality to be bad or washed off, but seeing myself pixelated and blurry was another level. I wonder why no reviewer mentioned that the picture is actually pixelated. If this was a $600 gigabyte monitor it would have beeen acceptable, but $1600? maybe not.
What i thought was a bit of a let down with the new Apple Studio Display was that the panel is indeed the same. It's been around for like 8 years now, would've been cool to get a new panel. But with that said it's probably the best 5K display for the price.
there's no such thing as a 5K 120hz panel. the DisplayPort tech used by TB4 (the newest) doesn't even support it. I'll take resolution over refresh rate. No scaling.

Thanks for making maybe the only video out there talking about your actual experience with the Studio Display and why what it does offer is great instead of complaining about what it doesn’t offer. Bravo!
Glad it was helpful!
So the complaints really aren’t about the webcams itself, but rather how a monitor with a crappy webcam is so expensive; being that the latest iPads and iPhone front cameras are better and cheaper than the monitor. I think it’s more about principal than the actual camera. That if you’re paying premium, you should be getting premium.
yeah I dont care about that either. its a 5K panel with speakers and a webcam. neither of which are bad. nothing else compares.
@@sloppysteaks Plenty compares, including the LG Ultrafine you conveiently left out of the video either out of ignorance or plain loyalty to Apple.
I should have a new video out very soon! thanks for stopping by.
Still watching this review, 6 mins in and its already one of the best reviews i've watched so far.
Best review so far!!! Straight to the point on what is important! Thank you.
I think it's priced perfectly

Dude, I 100% agree with you. It's not the specs, it's the experience 🔥

Also this guy: "If you have a nice webcam you're a clown"

Thank you thank you thank you for this review it was a great watch.

only one thing I wish you were showing it, is how freaking responsive this monitor is, bruh it's almost instantaneous. it's game changer for me

This is the kind of video I needed to watch to really make me wanna buy this display lol. Sucks it's not available til next month though.
Man, great video. eventhough I am not interested in one, but your reviews are spot on. Best tech video I´ve seen for a while. Please do more!!!!
Great video Patrick! Im using 5K iMac and just bought Mac Mini M2 Pro and want the Studio Display to go with it but every video out there has made me look elsewhere. My thoughts are exactly the same as yours here. I have now made my decision to buy the studio display!! Thanks you.
Wow. What a no nonsense review from experience. Thanks. Subscribed here and your main channel.
thanks!
😂 Breath of fresh air this video is. I appreciate your honesty. Props my guy.
Wow man, so straight-forward. Pretty much disarms everyone’s arguments out there. Subbed.
Nice truth serum. A refreshing change from the "everything is awesome/everything sucks" schism so often found on YT
I was going to buy your previous display you had, but after hearing your review I change my mind. Going down to Mexico tomorrow to sell and organ to pay for the monitor tomorrow.
Brilliant review mate, nice start for this channel
I have good news for you - this is a second channel! search PATRICK TOMASSO :)
thank you for watching
I can pay $2K with the adjustable stand but I'll wait for the Mini LED refresh.
hopefully they make machines that can drive 5K at 120hz. right now TB4 doesn't even support it, which means when there's a refresh unless they go down to 4K, no mac's will even support the 5K 120hz display.
I completely agree with you! This is the perfect display for every Apple user if you want a 5k display but also for people who are in that eco-system (like myself) and can't spend $5-6k on the 32" XDR Apple Pro display! (Also like myself!)
Your priorities have made the whole video and setup super meaningful
Man, this is such a great ‘real’ take and an excellent presentation. Don’t know how long you’ve been doing this, but keep it up. Subbed 😎👍🏼
revisited this video as I was thinking of doubling up on this monitor. This reminded me why I bought this monitor in the first place. You are pretty much one of the few people I even follow anymore.

What a refreshing, sensible take on the Studio Monitor.
Thanks Patrick, this was just what I needed to hear. No more buyer’s remorse.
The review I’ve been waiting for.
Just got back from picking up a magic keyboard and mouse, in white, bc it looks better with my desk setup, even though I normally gravitate towards black
Anyways! Right on dude. Found you on twitter

I had to plug the dongle for the MX keys/master 3 into the Mac studio to get it to work. enjoy the setup!
I am not sure if it is not all subjective on your side here
Great work man, and the aesthetic of a workplace is a big deal. Btw, what’s that desk??

you‘ve got the point: Quality of life. That’s the reason people choose apple products in the first place
Awesome .. the review I was looking for. Thanks for a real world take on this monitor.
absolutely right. I think most of the so called reviewers make noise to make money. that's it.
Thank you for bringing this perspective on the Studio Display - it was truly needed 👏

Great perspective, thanks. Unfortunately, at this cost, as a music person, I’m not being facetious when I ask if you could recommend something that’s useable but costs, say, 1/4th or 1/5th the price. At least something that’s broadly compatible with the Mac Studio and Mini.

Do you place the Studio Display on Mac Studio all time?
Do you worry about the dust would enter Mac Studio from bottom due to the big ventilation fans inside?
im gonna leave the Display on the Studio I think, its a nice height. im not worried about dust!
I have the iLoud Micros too. Woohooo! Ordered one M1 Max 32c 32GB Studio for myself. Eagerly waiting for it to arrive.

You are right. Quality of Life and the feeling when u using it.
I’m sorry - this is your FIRST video!? Well done, man.
this monitor allows you to focus on what you want to do not on the stuff you need to wrestle with to make it happen.
I am lazy thats why I bought a new monitor. problem solved.
Wow, thank you for your amazing opinions 😍. Many more should hear what you have to say. Great video!
Thanks for uploading this video. I enjoyed it! ❤
Can that Mac support two monitors?
Thanks for the great video. I agree with everything you said, except the part about webcam. I mean, it's freaking pixelated! I was bracing myself for the quality to be bad or washed off, but seeing myself pixelated and blurry was another level. I wonder why no reviewer mentioned that the picture is actually pixelated. If this was a $600 gigabyte monitor it would have beeen acceptable, but $1600? maybe not.
totally, even if one doesn't care about the webcam quality, for a 1600$ monitor it should not be this bad.
What i thought was a bit of a let down with the new Apple Studio Display was that the panel is indeed the same. It's been around for like 8 years now, would've been cool to get a new panel. But with that said it's probably the best 5K display for the price.
It’s brighter now
Great review. If you use a Mac mini, do you go with adjustable stand or not? $400 is not cheap and deciding before you buy sucks.
I can’t justify that $400 stand.
Man THANK YOU! Exactly how I feel about it.
I didn’t even realize this was a second channel lol but great video! love the more real-world view on the Studio Display past what it is on paper
i love the astro. best part of your setup
Only 60 hz, nowadays they should make at least 90-120 hz for premium display.
there's no such thing as a 5K 120hz panel. the DisplayPort tech used by TB4 (the newest) doesn't even support it.
I'll take resolution over refresh rate. No scaling.
