Rush's storytelling in both lyrics and musically is fantastic. Another one you should check out is The Fountain of Lamneth.
    Great reaction as always.
    Cheers 🇨🇦

As many people dump on Caress of Steel and even this song I still enjoy all of this album and including this song. Narrative voice effect doesn't ruin it for me. Just another part of the song and one of many voices. I knew when I first heard this I'd found some people who would write songs I enjoyed, not because they were hard songs or strange at times but for sure if they'd never tried something hard or even annoying at times I'd have missed what else they'd done.
I think too much nuance gets lost live for them.

I love what a "hidden gem" this song is. Hard Rock/Prog/Metal fans sleep on this tune. it's such a deep-cut classic and shows you how much Rush had in the quiver before they broke out in 1976, with "2112". Totally awesome and the Record Company didn't get it! Hahaha! I love it when A-holes get their smug faces slapped when the person or group that they belittled/laughed at ends up being the victor! Suck it, fools! Rush was always going to RULE!

No one tells a story like RUSH,and then the music take the song to the Stratosphere, all 3 are virtuosos on their instruments!!! Have you done Driven, heresy, cut to the chase, half the world, working them angels, clock work angels, highly recommend them especially heresy lyrically, so powerful!!!!!,so true!!!! So thought provoking,,relatable, inspirational!!!!

A Necromancer is someone who practices death magic.
Reading the future in a dead mans' entrails...stuff like that.
Raising the dead to fight for them.
    Pretty nasty characters.

A Necromancer is someone who has the power to re-animate the dead. By the way, you are a genius as well because you like music. Nothing better. Cheers Pope, good channel.

I love the Necromancer. Rush's 2 albums from 75 don't get much love but are my two favorites. 74 to 81 Rush by far my favorite era then it got spotty. By Tor and The Snow Dog another great song from 75

    • @nexuslang

Totally agree. Fly By Night and Caress of Steel are true "tours de force". I was 14 when they came out and became their instant no. 1 fan, showing them to all my junior high and then high school classmates. But they were not popular at all at the time. Then came, in rapid succession, 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures, all of them masterpieces. To me Moving Pictures signaled the end of their heyday, and although they continued to put out excellent songs here and there, their production started to get spotty as you so aptly put it.

Nice vid! This is one of my Rush favs. And yeah, you're right- a Necromancer is a sorcerer, and it's one that specializes in death magic. Things like re-animating the dead, or being able to communicate with passed spirits.

Rush are my boys, from Ontario, Canada! They come from Willowdale, Ontario; I'm not that far away in Mississauga, Ontario. These guys really put Canada on the map. And just fyi, "The Necromancer" is not in any way a sequel or a part 2 to "By-Tor and the Snow Dog". It features the same character, By-Tor but they turned him good. He was the Centurion of Evil in the aforementioned track. The songs are related by that single thread, but it is otherwise a separate track altogether. Glad to see you back reacting, again, Pope, after your month long hiatus!😃🙏

You’ve “gotta” see them do “Zanadu” live in 1981!!! It was the year I left high school and I had been playing guitar 🎸 for about two years(I was 17🤭)and I was “totally”obsessed with this song 🎶 I learned it by watching a recording I had on a blank VHS 📼 tape!!😆I must’ve rewound that thing 1,000 times till I got it right😂🤣Great memories of those days! Keep Rockin My Friend😝🤟🎸✌️🫶

I always took it that although By-Tor was Evil and the Devils Prince there is always going to be something more evil and in this case that was the Necromancer 🤔🤔🤔 A bit like life really, always something/someone worse than the worst you could imagine... Great reaction by the way.....

Well done for doing g this great review to a real classic.Easily in my top 5 of Rush songs.Try the glorious Here Again a funky bass blues groove on the first album.Geddys voice sounds so string and strident here and Alex's produces a stunning solo too.Its an underrated gem

Oh dude, if you like Rush you should check out the song Blinding Light Show/Moonchild by Triumph. They got a similar vibe and the first time I heard the song I was vibing and got jump scared by the guitar kicking my ass. Banger. Obviously Rush has a massive catalogue of great tunes, if you want some kickass drums and bass you should give Natural Science a listen. Ah, nevermind, checking out your vids I see you've been well introduced to them!! How about something a lil more obscure then. Maybe try out Dr. Sin. They're a metal band from Brazil that makes some fun tunes. I'd recommend Fly Away, Emotional Catastrophe (2008 Original Sin album version), Flying to Die (a very Rush-esque track). They also have a new album that has some bangers like Shout and Reflections of a Conflicting Mind

For all non-Torontonians, the Don is one of the rivers that run through the city and Willowdale is a suburb thereof.
They say write about what you know. I could do without the narration but the music is truly epic.

Rush has definitely made their mark on R n’R, as well as being one of, if not THE best prog rock bands ever. I’ve been a Rush fiend since I was turned on to them in ‘78. My initiation was graced with 2112, and I’ve see them live 17 times, but Caress of Steel has been my favorite Rush album for a long long time. You’ve GOTTA follow up very soon with The Fountain of Lamneth from the same album. Great reaction as always Pope! Thanks so much for posting this! ✌🏾

Good to see ya back on some RUSH Pope! I like to think that Neil wrote this about their (RUSH's) place in the music business at the time. Even though they were straight killing it, their label was pushing them for hits off the heels of Fly By Night. The radio hits didn't come with Caress of Steel and they were basically given "one more chance" with 2112. The rest is history.....they stuck to their guns and made arguably the most famous prog epic of all time....against the wishes of their label. Legendary!

  • @thegman8968
    @thegman8968 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's incredible to think that this is the album ,(Caress Of Steel), that nearly got RUSH booted by their record company!! 😂 This album didn't chart well and their were no "hits" on it. The company wanted more radio friendly songs from RUSH and so the boys delivered "2112" as a big "F-you" to their record label. The rest is history!!😊

If i recall awright, it was a rolling stone magazine poll that pissed me off so much.. Top 100 guitarists or some such. #98, John Lennon, whose musical genius I revere, did NOT, sorry, belong in the Top 100 guitarists (he was rhythm, for one thing). What number was Alex Lifeson? Number ZERO. Not EVEN on the list!!!! In terms of Boneheaded scandal, it's right up there with the Rock and Roll hall of Fame admitting Madonna before Deep Purple. LOVED your reaction, though!
