garys word choice alone is sensational. its musical its poetic. theres not a single syllable out of place. i really enjoy the effort he puts into every word in a joke. a gary gulman set is a masterclass in verbiage…if you’re a fan of his and havent heard it, i highly suggest checking out his episode on the Good One podcast where he breaks down the creation of his Trader Joe’s bit. it is outstanding

This guy was an educated jock
You took the words out of my mouth. And this bit doesn't even really showcase it! He uses just enough to appeal to the well-read and educated but never too much to leave anyone else out. It's quite a delicate balance and he has completely mastered it. I would say Daniel Tosh has a similar ability (albeit very different brand of comedy) where they can insert references that only a small percentage of the audience would even get, but they choose their words so that the joke is still funny even if you don't understand the reference. It's an art.
Peak scrivening, for certain.
Man, I love Gary's material so much. "Abbreviating the States" and "Telephone 1.0" are timeless classics that never fail to make me laugh
Don't forget "The Hierarchy of Cookies."

This guy is very funny and talented. Howie Mandel has zero talent. No talent nor funny. But he hosted this thing.
This is a really bad set. I'm sure he's capable of better, but he was really low energy and disconnected with his audience. Nothing was landing. This was like watching Jay Leno do stand up on his late night, painful.
You should see more of his videos...he's one of the most respected stand-ups working today. He does seem a bit off here, but I wouldn't go as far as deeming it "really bad."
