I already did a short on that tag, but I might do a tutorial as well down the line.

Hi, I really like your channel and because of your great tag tutorials I've started a bit with Barbershop myself. I have a one question, what are these hand signs called that you do here in the tag tutorial? Does this technique have a specific name?

      Hi!! Thank you so much!
The hand signs are based on the different steps of the scale, 1 = do, 2 = re, 3 =mi etc. You can then sharpen or flatten notes by bending the fingers. There are different types of number systems - you can also use both hands and then show all fingers between 1 and 8 when teaching tags.
      Hope that helps!

@@BarbershopTagAlongI would be also interested, if you could explain your system in more detail. How do you signal the relative steps above five? For negative steps (below one) you add the pinky finger, right?

@@svnmrtns87 I can try! There are different ways to go about it. One way is to make pinky be the major 6th of the major scale and pinky + thumb be major 7th. That means if the melody sings C B A C in the key of C, meaning Index finger, pinky+thumb, pinky, Index. And half steps are then the same, but with the respective fingers being bent.
