    At the time of this video, I am a Home Health RN Case Manager. Join me during my home care 1/2 day of work, just a couple patients to see what it's like! I'm here to give you insight into real life home care. Keeping it ALL REAL! Telling you why I'm quitting (starting around minute marker 11)
    Let me know if you work in home care and what you like about it. Home care nursing can be very rewarding, but also extremely frustrating as you will see in the video.

      Hi! Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Thanks for your comment, yes this video was intended to be part DIL and part why I was quitting. I edited the description a while back to add the 11 minute marker. I did make a follow up video to this one which explains and addresses the comments I got on this video if you are curious. Hope you have a great day 😀

    I’ve been doing home health for 7 years. 6 as a Lpn & 1 as a RN. I love it. But i must say if you do it ft you develop a routine & i am able to see 6-9 patients a day & i document for maybe 1.5 hours after i finish seeing them. I get 85% of my charting done at their homes. If u do it PT then u dont get a routine & it’s stressful

      Yes, I think that was definitely the problem that I had. I'm so glad you have it working well for you. It's such an important field.

      Do you get paid for your charting time? It's why I switched to private duty. I got sick of all night uncompensated charting. I don't miss it.

    • @NursingWithBenomi
      @NursingWithBenomi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically (in my experiences) you were supposed to complete all charting in the home. So yes, in a sense you get paid to chart. But if you choose to take that work home with you, then you wouldn’t get paid any extra if that makes sense.

      @@NursingWithBenomi This agency we did some charting in the homes. Maybe if it were on paper, it'd be doable but typing on the computer and going from screen to screen, I only know about 2 colleagues who completed their charting during the visit. Also, we'd get in at 8 and schedule our appointments. That took until 10 so another 2 hours of uncompensated time. Either way, I didn't completely leave home heath; I switched to private duty instead of visits. I like that much better.

      Yeah home health isn’t for everyone, and I think the system sometimes is the reason for that. I loved having just one patient at a time and being able to focus on them. I’m glad you found something that works for you! Private duty nursing is super important. 💜

    I stopped using an electric bp cuff because of always having to replace batteries and not being that accurate. And I always carry a back up thermometer, pulse ox, scissors, & scales, just in case they stop working or I leave them by mistake.

    Not only phone calls but documentation of the call. Spend 6-9hrs in pt homes, but works not over go home to your desk and put in sometimes 6 or more hours with visit documentation, do that every day including 12days straight bc your turn to have weekends, get behind on documentation ask for smaller pt load, keep large pt load bc they're short staffed drown in hours of documentation pick up your check that has been docked for late documentation and will continue to be docked until you're caught up but that won't happen bc they're never staffed enough to reduce your work load and before you know it you've lost $3k in docking fees btwn March and June. They high five you for all your hard work and sacrifice but nothing changes, they say labor laws don't apply to you bc there is exceptions for home health....

      Aww man sorry to hear that. I love the agency I work for. For RN we have a point system per type of visit and how much documentation is required. scheduling department cannot go over your points without your approval. It’s easy to get buried in charting ,which is easy to do because when you get home your are tired.

    man, your for profit system in the USA is so backwards. I work in home care in canada. full time, just under $100,000/year. Mon-Fri 8:00-4:15. As soon as 4:15 comes, i'm done. no way i'm working for free. You really need to get that M4A passed. Universal healthcare !!

    No disrespect. I am confused here . I am a RN here in the UK doing home care. I can see up to 10 patients a day. Sometimes you visit a pt and they are not home but it doesn't end there because you now need to track them down to make sure they are safe. Imagine doing documentation for 10 people some with 2 or 3 care plans at a time. We get no more that £13-£15 an hour. So if that is your bad day you are very lucky. I can see the standards of care is very poor there yet you get paid way more than we do in the UK

    • @NursingWithBenomi
      @NursingWithBenomi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi thanks for watching, I’m glad you are able to handle that heavy work load. At that particular job I wasn’t paid per hour, it was per visit. Once I added up all the time, I wasn’t even making minimum wage. I’m sorry you think the standard of care was poor, but I actually provided very good care and education to my patients and family members which I obviously can’t show on video. Also, I think any job is easier when you are full time, you are able to get into routines, find your way around town easier etc. So between working less than part time and swapping from nights to days all the time, it was a terrible time. Thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate everyone’s viewpoints.

    U can’t drive and talk at the same time.. u didn’t check if ur b/p is working, u didn’t call ur patient before arriving or being late, u left ur thermometer.. u should be a home health nurse .. y did u take the job if u don’t get paid the extra things u do.. n complain about it..

    • @NursingWithBenomi
      @NursingWithBenomi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes, this was a terrible day at work and wasn’t necessarily typical. This type of home health nursing wasn’t a fit, which is why I only stayed with it for 3 months. I took the job because I was told I could get all the work done at each visit. Unfortunately that didn’t turn out to be the case. Also, I wasn’t doing anything extra, it was all required work. After doing the math one day and seeing that I didn’t even make minimum wage, I logically became frustrated and decided I personally needed to work elsewhere. Thanks for watching :)

      I currently work home heath fri sat and sun plus call. My territory is bigger since I don’t follow pts. I do mostly soc and roc. I was told oh you may have to work till noon on Monday’s finishing up documentation.....wrong. This has been the worst job ever and I’ve been doing this for almost a year and out my notice in last week. I feel like my life has been consumed with this job. Love the pt care and teaching but not worth the hours of documentation.

      mariemk I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! I have be an RN for 30 years and have never worked for such a dysfunctional company. The management has no business being in management. They throw you out into the field after a “do it yourself orientation “, the. run off the good nurses. 20-40 miles in between patients, 4-5 hours of driving, 3-4 hours with patients then documentation until midnight or so. They will tell you that you have a “time management “ problem, but the RN doing all of the Oasis (SOC, RECERTS, ROC and Oasis Discharge) is beyond time consuming. Thank you for validating how my life has been as well! Zero work life balance! I cannot remember the last time I worked out. I usually will hang in there, but this is becoming unhealthy and toxic! I have too much experience to deal with this!

      First of all, you didn't have any problem posting your comment - which is what's disgraceful. Her video on the other hand, is a "real world" view of someone having a bad day at work, which happens to be home care. I've done private duty nursing and visits and while this should not be anyone's typical day (nor did she say or act like it was), I appreciate her still posting it with all that was going wrong. We ALL have days like this where nothing seems to be going right and she's just showing how she's one of those people. I'd rather watch someone I can relate to who is being authentic than to watch videos of people pretending that nursing (or any field for that matter) is just this perfect world where everything happens just like it's supposed to.
