  • "HAUNTED CASTLE IN JOSHUA TREE?"
    "From the beginning of this video at around 0:08-0:09, there was a sound of a woman's voice that seemed like crying for help. Listen carefully to the audio and you will hear it. Just like when we were starting to prepare for our dinner, Jim heard voices outside of the cabin. I looked around but didn't see anything. It was windy that night so we just thought that it could be just that but we felt something in the area. Whatever that is.. it is hard to explain. You better see it yourself."

    I first learned about this hike from a book my friend lent me, "On Foot In Joshua Tree National Park" by Patty Furbush 5th Edition, January 2005. In Chapter 18, p156 entitled Castle And Arches The Adventure Of Hiking In Joshua Tree National Park, it presents a challenge of going into an adventure and finding this Castle without any information of how to locate it. So I did some research and invited my friend Jim to embark on this adventure and document what is left to this historical site.
    The hike is easy to moderate. It includes lots of boulder hopping and scrambling (Class 3 & 4), and walking in sands for most part. Distance is about 8 miles out and back with an elevation gain of 1,276 ft. No water source in the area so bring lots of fluids.
    If you ever find this unique place, please leave it as you found it.

    Is it haunted? At the beginning of this video, listen carefully at around 0:08-0:09 while we are about to enter the cabin.. there was seemed like a woman’s voice that sounded like crying for help.

    I love all your videos and thanks for sharing. I did this hike about the same time you did a few years ago and we also found a secret petroglyph location that I've never heard mentioned before. These petroglyphs in my oppion are better than the secret location everyone else is looking for in the main park. The area is awesome and I'd like to spend the night up there, but others are saying it's closed now. Anyhow, great video and thanks for sharing.

      Yeah, I heard they closed down the place again. I have an unfinished business over there, locating the stash of old newspapers somewhere inside a hollow Boulder not far from the area. Lucky for you to see some petroglyphs. I love finding those.
      I have another spot to explore, it’s on hold for now. I think it’s the most remote place inside the park.

      @@20robertang hum, hopefully you'll visit the location soon so we can see the vid. Yeah, JTNP is full of Petroglyphs, they're all over the place, but the one at this location is special. Too bad the area is closed off now. Thanks.

    Very neat finding the castle. The park had that spot off limits for a couple years. Lot of relics were taken from the castle, when they closed the area the NPS went in and cataloged everything there and then added a few relics of the past too.

    • @20robertang
      @20robertang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a great adventure locating it. I can tell by the clipping attached to the log book that relics are diminished already. It’s difficult for the NPS to lock out that part since it’s out of their reach id say. But it’s pretty fascinating place.

    Sadly you can't get to Cary's Castle anymore. Because of theft they've shut the road down and even set up a guard kiosk. And they enforce it.

    Ahhh mannnn... History of that location is incredible. I couldn't imagine living there in all 4 seasons. You and Jim had some serious exploring to do there. Temperatures dropped big time overnight. Great video, enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing, take care Robert.

      The wind that night made it colder but we suck it up. That’s life in the mountain. That’s right, I’d imagine them working during warm season, probably they bring everything including water. Some of the metal drums were used as culvert for the makeshift road that goes up to the mine. Fascinating find. Thanks, Jason.

    First thing I did was google it right away, says it's permanently closed, this is so freaking cool. I am guessing Cary used to park a vehicle really close and the road to this place is what is closed. Thumbs up to you and Jim for respecting the preservation of this treasure. the vegetation is the castle I would guess might be Spearmint, rodents hate it. natural method to keep them away. Happy New year Robert & Jim best wishes for many more hikes.

    • @20robertang
      @20robertang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the information about the Spearmint. I saw at least one mouse as soon as it got dark that night. The road coming from I-10 freeway is private. There’s a sign that says about $1,000 fine if you get caught. But some hikers were just told to keep out and move away from there. We did another route going in so we didn’t use that private road. The area should be open since the the NPS placed a new log book in March 2016. It was closed around February of that year based on the article I’ve read. It was open a month prior when he visited the castle and wrote the article. Closure was due to diminishing artifacts and deteriorating conditions of the dwelling. But that’s the beauty of this adventure.. the thrill of finding it despite of all the obstacles surrounding the explorations. Jim is such a great company especially in this kind of trip. I am planning to go back and find the cache that has the old newspapers. I learned about it after extended research as soon as I got back from there.. so stay tuned. Take care, Donny.
