  • I posted a video of the Shikoku Shinkansen before.
    I explained that there is a plan to build a Shinkansen line from Okayama through the Seto Ohashi Bridge to the four prefectures of Shikoku.
    In this video, I will show you the route of this Shinkansen plan on a virtual tour.

    The route looks (and feels like) an oversized tram route 😂 But if the delta route you mentioned is realized it's beneficial for tourism and business between the prefectures themselves.

    Always love this content! I don't know how there aren't more viewers - it's always so good afterall. If the line connecting Takamatsu and Osaka is built would it continue to all stem from the north or would they become two different Shinkansen which cross and temporarily run parallel

    Great video!!! Could you make a video about history of Tohoku shinkansen?

    I really really wish that the Akashi-Kaikyo bridge has a rail connection.. It seems ridiculous to have to go through Okayama rather than Kobe.

    Great video! I think, there is no need in Shinkansen line to Kochi, because it will pass through the high mountains range, also, there are few stations, also population density is low and line length is also minimal. Construction of long(about 30-50km) tunnel section will be very expensive, so line will be unprofitable. Just no need! However, Shinkansen lines to Tokushima and Matsuyama should be built, as they will lay in highly densely populated areas of Shikoku and have transportation links to Osaka and Okayama.

    It's such an interesting video, but would there ever be enough demand for a Shikoku Shinkansen?

    For the first variant in Takamatsu, I wonder whether it might not be cheaper (relatively speaking) for the portion beyond Takamatsu to be in a tunnel? That would avoid the issue of land acquisition.

    Greetings JP Rail-san
    If the Shikoku Shinkansen branch line to Matsuyama, and the extensions to Oita and Kumamoto ever become a reality, how does the basic plan intend for it to cross the entrance to the Seto Inland Sea ? Bridge or tunnel ?
    Thanks and best regards from a Shinkansen fan in Australia who has never travelled on one.

    if there are difficulties with land acquisition in some areas is there any case for building sections as dual gauge or conversion to "mini shinkansen"

    Or maybe rename Nakahagi station ti Iyo-Sogo station after Mr Sogo

    One of the reason I like to watch both Japanese and English version is because Japanese version has deeper discussion, and English for better understanding.
    I think the Kochi section is redundant so better put it into last priority. On the other hand the tokushima section is useless unless they can connect tokushima to Wakayama via Wakayama or Kobe, so the most potential route would be the Matsuyama/Oita route.
    But at the end of the day, subsidy from the state and local governments on local routes is the way to go...

    Well, you could have the trains from the 3 branches connect at Utazu then go to Okayama. That would be probably fine if the platforms are long enough and this combined train doesn't go further than Okayama or Kyoto.
    Edit: Never mind, that was never the problem in the first place.

    hi takeshi-san,
    what will happen to all the railways trains and people when one of the JR companies collapse? (i hope it never happens)

      I don't think it will happen. Because the impact is too huge on the economy. The government will be involned before it happens.

    Would the Shikoku Shinkansen be profitable? I learned from your previous videos that passenger railways in Shikoku are currently not profitable due to low ridership. Would a Shinkansen line in Shikoku attract enough riders to justify the cost of building it? I hope so, but it seems like a big risk.

    • @JPRailcom
      @JPRailcom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On conventional lines, the alignment is poor and the speed does not increase, so it is not competitive with highway buses and aircraft. The Shinkansen will be a game changer.
      Especially in the Matsuyama area, high profits can be expected. On the contrary, Kochi and Tokushima may not be so profitable.
      However, due to political issues, this is a project that must be carried out in the four prefectures of Shikoku, so it will not be possible to construct only the route in the direction of Matsuyama.
      In any case, if JR Shikoku has the Shinkansen, it will be more competitive and will gain market share. And as the average customer price goes up, the financial situation of JR Shikoku will be greatly improved.
      However, the local government has to take care of the conventional line because it is separated from the management of JR Shikoku.

      @@JPRailcom Thank you! I understand much more about the situation now. How would the conventional line in Shikoku likely be affected by the opening of a Shinkansen line in Shikoku?

    • @qjtvaddict
      @qjtvaddict 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Paelorian it will get a surge in ridership as the conventional train lines will become feeders to the Shinkansen and those fast trains will dump new ridership onto the lines
