Welcome to slightly relaxed tempo Chopin-Godowsky! & The effect is stunning... Rather than blaze & bombast his way thru he chooses to focus on the poetic, expressive qualities of the music. Somewhat along the line of Jorge Bolet's approach. These are rock solid live takes on some dauntingly difficult neo-romantic repertoire. I hope this player continues to explore Godowsky's work... Excellent.
Absolutely! Godowsky's aim was as much (or more) musical as it was technical! Plenty of headroom for a wide variety of interpretations, from all corners of the pianistic globe. Godowsky's Bach elaborations are awesome as well. His contribution to the piano literature is staggering. Always glad to see when someone does this music justice...
Utterly smart, imaginative and sensitive playing 🤩 I've attended Vadym's recent recital in Warsaw and it was a very memorable experience. PS I had forecasted that he was to play one of Chopin/Godowsky Studies as an encore and it came to fruition 🙂
2 years ago Vadym played many of these in a recital here in Miami to the astonishment of those of us in the audience who had not heard them before - he is surely one of the greatest of all...
This is like hearing those pieces for the very first time, the musicality, the poetry !!! A whole new meaning to Godowsky amazing work on Chopin etudes.
I knew ab. that opus "theoretically", only... His basic technique & his professional interest gives him to play that experiment's Opus! His character's Very Strong ,"fight" Personality ... Good luck!
God has given Mr. Kholodenko life's unspeakable challenges but raised him higher with the immaculate gift of music. Absolutely sublime, each and every note.
He is fantastic. Anyone who would tackle those finger busting etudes is heroic. He plays with such finesse and feeling that you forget that they are etudes. He is an artist of the first water.
14:14 - 14:25 Conforming the piece to that string of notes instead of the activity going on in the right hand is a nice change of pace from the usual performances of this study and fits exceptionally well with this very subdued/quiet performance.
Beautifully played, lots of emotion. I've always had a weak left hand and am amazed at pianists who are strong lefties. He made it all sound of straightforwardly simple and lovely.
A fantastic recording. Some interesting selections from the set (who performs 18A?), and he ignores a great deal of the score markings, but these are really musically interesting performances of pieces that can quickly turn tedious.
Although I prefer a little bit faster tempo in the first study but I’m still in awe of how amazing this guy is. Absolute perfection in phrasing, control, voicing, layering!!
This is wonderful what he did, interesting, one hand simplified Chopin's Etudes, it's not too much earlier than Chopin's original scores. Beautiful !!!🌹🌹🌹
he played these and about 10 others in a recital here in Miami several years ago to an amazed audience - with such ease and virtuosity it left us breathless...
Hochinteressant, überzeugennd und dazu meisterhaft gespielt.

I mean come on… how does it get better than this? Absolutely superb 🤯
One if the greatest pianists of the modern generation.
Yes.
Real artist.
Pianist/musicist. Complet musician

He's a true poet, in every repertoire he plays, so refreshing to hear!
I'm sure & yes it is. . . Thx for the comment. I will investigate more of his work.
Agreed, this approach works weirdly well for these beasts of the piano literature!

@@pantoleonantonio9653 His musicality is second to none! He lets the music breath...
So effortless and silky! OMG
Very brave & imperpturbable...but very musical! Thanks.
The first etude becomes something completely different when played like this. Truly amazing.
Beautiful playing. Had the pleasure of meeting Godowsky grandson when I worked at Patelson’s Music House.

BRAVO!!!
So clear... Absolute control over everything.
Stunning.

His hands are like water that flows frictionless across the keys.
That 18a is just wonderful!

a very musical approach to some gorgeous pieces. The tempo makes the etudes much easier and much more enjoyable listening to. Bravo
Incredible❣️So natural. I didn’t know that Godowsky’s Studies are so easy😉.
Incredible - YES! Easy - absolutely NO, likely the hardest pieces in the piano repertoire...
yes so easy you can play with one hand x')
Woww just woww those are hardcore pieces especially the study from Winter Wind
He is fantastic. Anyone who would tackle those finger busting etudes is heroic. He plays with such finesse and feeling that you forget that they are etudes. He is an artist of the first water.
If you play the video on 2X, his first attempt is almost at the correct tempo. It’s supposed to be.
These interpretations are some of the most interesting I've heard. I love it!

Excelente musicalidade do mestre Kholodenko!
Woo!! Amazing 😮
Such elegance!!

this is how i imagine godowsky played them
Fantastic!
That LEFT hand beginning @ 4:45...I'm speechless.
unbelievable control (technique), totally in service to the music. Matchless musicality...!

Thank you.
