  • ACHTUNG LAUTE DAMPFEIFFE// ATTENTION LOUD STEAMWHISTLE
stellte bis 2024 Spielzeugdampfmaschinen her.
A short sentimental video about the end of the English company MAMOD.
This company was founded in 1936 by Geoffroy Malins (MA-lins MOD-els/MAMOD) and
manufactured toy steam engines until 2024. Now is for various reasons
the end of this traditional company from England has come.
Here you can see a Mamod SE2a (built 1967-1972) at full steam, with last regards
the steam whistle, in the background a small Mamod Minor.
Even if "only" toy steam engines were built, it is probably the end of the
Steam engine construction in large numbers in England, the motherland of the steam engine,
where these machines began their triumphant march with Savery, Newcomen and Watt.
Now the end has come, even though as a German I have never had such a connection or so many
I had and have models of these steam toys, somehow part of the story is now going on
over. MAMOD, for me, was England, like James Bond, H.M. the Queen and Fish & Chips.
The end of an era, Mamod 1936-2024

This realy saddenes me, but at least we can still enjoy the machines allredy been made, as far as i know no other company made so many great actual steam models to fit the original Meccano, i am so glad i finaly got ny self one of those yellow meccano platform steamplants a few years agoo. It came with a box of other small Mamod machines in various stages from the same collector in Britain, i love them so much i probably keep them for my own collection. I hawe some original wire driven toys models for them as well, super cute when they run, with a few obvious exceptions, most of them are actualy functional as well, (at least to some extent; one can cut paper and drill matches)!

A Great Technology and Hobby will never die !!❤❤

Damn, another fantastic traditional educational toy dies. I grew up with Meccano , never was lucky enough to own a steam powerplant but I learned a lot of basic engineering principles that I have used to this day across many different careers. Coding and digital may be the future for controls but at the end of the day the things they are controlling are still mechanical devices and the old rules and principles apply.
Often there us a mechanical work around that is more effective than some lines of code.

Computers are important for controlling, but at the end these steering the mechanical levers and valves...

Very sad to see that an old and traditional manufacturing, which produced a very unique kind of "toys" is no longer successful and have to close the doors. I hope Wilesco will survive.

Yes the End of Mamod is very, very, sad 😞. Especially the older ones have a unique charackter!
Wilesco will survive for two reasons, first they own their fabrication building, so no rent. Second, they also produce shovels and coat hooks, not only steam engines. So they deliver the Deutsche Bahn with coat hooks for their trains for example... And this part of the business is more than 50% of annual balance. So no steam toys, Wilesco makes more shovels and coat hooks. "Always have a second source of support", Mamod never could make that it seems...
You want a wilesco coat hook, the same like used in the famous ICE-train of Deutsche Bahn? Here you go: www.reidl.de/wilesco-garderobenprofilhaken-90-x-150-mm-fo-lm-poliert-p204469?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwqre1BhAqEiwA7g9QholSNUUiJF5Tnz-oi8M5FmARpVHWxbFeAcH4bgte9TWdt7fO3KQqiRoCrkYQAvD_BwE
