+whocaress no youre right but i mean nowadays almost noone can sing ive but playback.. but this guy and plant .. amazing.. just gonna fly away from here!
To say Steve Tyler is a born frontman & rock n roll star is an understatement. Most singers lose their vocal ability and are limited in their range after 40 years straight touring, drinking and drugging to the point of becoming self parodies. But not Steve Tyler. The fact that his voice is still in immaculate condition after all this time is a miracle.
actually Steve did damage his voice from drinking and the heavy drugs, he woke up one day and his vocal chords were bleeding. The little blood vessels had ruptured, fortunately he had a very talented ear nose and throat surgeon who basically cauterised the blood vessels with a laser. I have also hear that steven had nodules on his chords and this would have required another surgery to remove the callouses from the chords, (very delicate surgery ask axl rose or better yet listen to the before and after the difference is it really worked for steven Tyler vocal surgery gave him back a young mans chords! The moral of the story is that no matter how strong your vocal chords are they cant stand up to a constant lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse.
Rockerman pre Its like Gene Simmons once said. You can't run a marathon drunk or high. And Steve still sings better than most singers his age and younger.
+ Rockerman pre This is quite bullshit. He had a common vocal chords problem back then , blood vessels rupture is a very common problem in singers, even in singers who not use drugs or alcohol. It was back in 2006/2007 if I remember well, when he was already clean, the problem was not caused in any way by drinking and heavy drugs. It was caused by an extended and wrong use of the voice. Remember: he is a GREAT SINGER (my favourite one, forever), but he can not, academically talking, sing properly. His vocal chords are always been under a huge stress, and after 40 years it's quite common. He sings with a powerful throat voice and chest. And still, he doesn't have a "young mans chords anymore".
I've likely watched this perfectly mindblowing performance over 50 times and it usually will bring me to a weeping state of heartache by its pained wrenching conclusion. "I don't wanna die, don't wanna die, in paradise." Just amazing, Mr. Tyler!

I’ll rock the Eagles and then crank some AC/DC. Switch between GnR and CCR. But I’ve always held firm that Steven is hands-down the best frontman/vocalist. His vocal abilities, in his prime, are unmatched. His stage presence oozes carefree confidence. And this video truly showcases that fact. Aerosmith isn’t my favorite rock band ever, but Steven is definitely my favorite rock vocalist.
I saw Aerosmith in 72/73, at Vet's Memorial, in Columbus Ohio. 10th Row, Center, Seats!!! BEST CONCERT, OF MY LIFE!!! They sounded "Just Like" their albums, tapes, etc. I'VE LOVED STEVEN TYLER & AEROSMITH since 1971!!!!! ALWAYS HAVE,...ALWAYS WILL!!! ❤💞💕
Most people, including Aerosmith's biggest fans, have no idea what a complete and true masterpiece this song track is. It may take listening to 1000 times, but once you see the inner-workings of "What it Takes," you have this "holy shit" moment when you realize the magnitude of its complexity. Desmond Child together with Joe Perry and Steven Tyler created this magic and I literally feel sad for anyone who hasn't a clue as to what I'm going on about here because it means they have never REALLY heard this song for what it is -- A true musical masterpiece.😎

Able to be gracious in recognizing JLo as a "talent" and that the kids competing were better than him. Takes a big man to do that. However, as I htink it was Oprah said....."...they dont have the IT Factor...the ability to draw in 30x000 people and keep their attention----SO TRUE. And be original doing it). The age factor, people! Don't forget the age factor! Many are comparing Steven's vocal range with those of Axl's and Freddie's, but very few are mentioning the fact that this recording was from June 2002 = Steven was 54 at the time. 54(!) And delivers what probably is the best ever recorded live performance of What it Takes. Those pitch perfect screams around the 3:30 mark, not to mention at the end of the song when he screams on those same high notes only to one second later change to a low note to end the song on. Incredible. I saw Axl live in 2017 when he was 55 and his vocal performance then was lightyears away from his 1991 live in Tokyo heyday. Those saying that Axl still sings good (or, God forbid, 'sings great') are simply wrong. Its average at best and his voice has not aged well. Not quite Vince Neil bad. But not good. Freddie died in 1991 when he was 45. But his last live performance was around 1986, when he was 40, and while he definitely sounded good then, we simply will never know how his vocal range would have been at 54. I'd even go so far as to say Steven's vocal range was as its PEAK in 2002. Just Push Play era. Just check out their performance of Girls of Summer from the same concert. Steven's harmonies as him and Joe build their intro to the song: th-cam.com/video/DoRf55ESyHM/w-d-xo.html
