It's a nice little detail that the poem quote Jesse gives is actually a direct line from the poets of the fall song 'Balance slays the demon' from Alan Wakes American Nightmare, because that song also contains a hidden message when played in reverse which forshadows the events in ordinary where Jesse finds Polaris - 'It will happen again, in a town called ordinary.'

Im pretty sure that Take Control is the result of the Barry/Old Gods venture that ensued after the events of Alan Wake. After Wake gets trapped, Tor and Odin have moonshine prophecies about Jesse, Polaris and The Hiss Invasion and somehow they meet Ahti, they create the song and Ahti borrows it in preparation for the Hiss Invasion or maybe they develop it during the events of Control. Anyways, as it is stated, Thor and Odin have some degree of paranatural habilities, but they are not as powerful parautilitarians as Ahti is, (hell, he is probably just the physical manifestation of an even higher power) hence the comment that "The swedish brothers couldnt handle the heat of my sauna"
I agree that the Anderson's are not on the tier of Ahti by any stretch of the imagination. One interesting thing I read in AN is that when they are onstage it is like they were possessed by something godlike. Like they are normal men until they perform then they become the Old Gods. I know Balance Slays the Demon is on their new album. If Take Control is as well that would be interesting. After all, one of their albums called, "Memory, Thought, Balance, Ruin" has the inverted black pyramid on the album cover.
An important connection between Ahti and the gods is that they are both references to north european mithology, Ahti is a god related to the ocean and that's why they know eachother, Ahti also likes music a lot, and they are musicians, so Ahti may have been a musician once too in fact Ahti is connected to ocean and water, and it might be possible that Ahti's powers come from the lake aswell, in fact in control at some point Ahti goes to vacation, and in visions we see water with a sunset, could it be that his vacation was going in the lake? maybe he went there to "fix" it
Gabriel Ramirez to me it felt like the purpose of that dlc was to promote a new Alan wake or maybe control sequel, the gameplay was fun and it was a cool concept I think it just lacked a little in content, especially if you compare the side missions of the foundation dlc to the side missions in this one

I have it on Epic, and while my PC is better than my X1X, I don't have RayTracing. I already bought the full game + pass but I'm gonna buy that Control Ultimate edition. I was gonna drop another 75$ or w/e again, but 40$ is a good deal to me lol
Oh give this a fucking rest, just because you buy a game doesn't entitle you to cross general remasters years later for free or your somehow being "cheated" it's so entitled to think that. Companies that do that would end up out of business and the only game devs that would thrive are the ones that micro transaction you to death. Minor spoiler. But when I found a photo after the final boss fight in the AWE DLC that Alice took I got chills. It looks like MR. Scratch is haunting her in the real world.
Yeah sadly Mr. Scratch has been messing with her for a while. He mentioned in American Nightmare that he would let her catch glimpses of him. Eventually, he would return and pretend to be Alan, assuming his life. Then when he got bored of this, he would kill her. He also appeared to Clay Steward on occasion.
I just became a man child gamer .Again. I loved control. Not knowing much about the lore and background of characters this definitely helped me to connect some dots. I’m going to spend a few hours unmasking more files to understand a little more before I start the Expansion . Thank you ✌️.
I wonder if any of the story from Quantum Break will make it into the Wake-Control continuity. Probably not because I think Microsoft still holds the IP to QB, but maybe that will change one day. I hope so; QB was AWEsome.

Thomas Zane is a tricky one considering how the only info we get is through a 3rd party. But I'll definitely cover my thoughts on it. I'd keep an eye out on another channel Max Derrat. He has some thoughts on Zane and is working on a new video discussing the similarities between Tom and Polaris.

I’m sooo ready to save Alan Wake as Jesse Faden. Hopefully one of the other doors in the Oceanview motel leads to the reality of Quantum break and we get that in future DLC
Well the doors are labelled in the code. Black Pyramid, White Pyramid, Alan Wake, Control 2, Doors, and Vanguard. The reason the Spiral Door leads to Alan is because it goes to the Dark Place, another threshold even though alan's from New York. If they get publishing rights for QB back we may see it down the line.

Mario Perez Quantum Break takes place in 2016 right? But Control takes place in 2019 so it is something I really want to learn more about. Hopefully we do it get it down the line and not on another 10 years.

I finished it at 1am this morning as well! After finishing this I'm getting the feeling the Comics are not 100% Canon. Unless I'm missing something with the timeline for Dr. Hartman's journey after the Bright Falls AWE.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Didn’t the comics say he was working with a third party? *Spoiler Alert* In the Fandom page for Hartman, it reads: “While Hartman wished to form a partnership with the FBC, the Bureau found Hartman to be in violation of paranatural law, and detained him.” In the comics, it doesn’t say who, so I was wondering what led to this realization. We know that he was apprehended, but was FBC the one he called upon waking up? I doubt.
I doubt he called the FBC. It sounds like maybe a person from a Paracriminal group that called him. He was on his way there but Hartman was arrested. I'd have to double check to see where Hartman was picked up by the bureau.
Great video. This video is what u should have uploaded 1st. I mean the explanation of the Alan wake game story on the surface. Then go into depth like how u started ur lessons from the 1st video. And same goes for Control and Quantum break. I mean, I had to process a lot by myself, a little help from a deep diver would help. :D

All day I have felt like it was Wednesday. I just can't shake it. I have Thursday and Friday off, specifically for AWE. So I keep disappointing myself over and over again. Here comes a Gaming University video about AWE to tide me over though, like Thomas Zane's light to save me from the darkness of impatient boredom lol
I replayed Alan Wake before the AWE DLC, but I never got the chance to play "The Signal" or "The Writer" DLCs nor American Nightmare..I watched your Alan Wake lectures though..Should I try to finish them before AWE, or is it fine to postpone them for later ?
I would absolutely recommend playing the Writer and Signal as it gives you a good idea of how the Dark Place functions as well as Include a really cool new gameplay mechanic. Remember using words to create things at the end of the game? Imagine using that mechanic in combat to make explosions! For american nightmare, there are mixed reactions to it but I'd say play it too. It fully expands on Mr. Scratch and sets up the manner that Alan gets info and sends info out of the dark place.
I'll definitely give it a go but after AWE as I already know almost everything about Mr. Scratch, and I honestly can't wait a second longer to get poor old Alan out of his 10 years imprisonment. Since the AWE announcement, whenever I pass by the spiral door I'm like "Hang in there buddy" :') I'm already fighting the temptation to watch the first 15 minutes of AWE. Friends and family are starting to think I'm getting withdrawal symptoms or something lol.

I just finished it. Kinda having mixed feelings about it to be honest. I tried to discover as much as I can (Spent 20 minutes in the first room alone lol) I found lots of interesting collectibles. But I think I'm done.. As always, waiting for your videos about it.
Strange. When Jesse is quoting the poem by Zayne, there is a distortion in her voice. Some kind of feedback. It only appears while she is quoting him. Did they ever explain this? If not, what could it mean, beyond just being creepy?
We will see! It is confirmed that Alan will being involved in AWE and a couple years back Remedy purchased the publishing rights for Alan Wake. Hopefully it means we will get a true sequel
Gaming University once Alan is rescued by Jesse in the AWE DLC he will be back in the real world and definitely get another game I think. It would be interesting if he gets offered a Job at the FBC since he was considered as a prime candidate for Director like Jesse and Dylan Faden

The worker asked me what kind of games I like and I said I loved single-player, story driven games. (I still do by the way) he said if I was into horror and I said yes so he pointed to a copy of AW and since it was pre-owned I could return it for a full refund within 7 days of purchase date if I didn't like it. 8/9 years later I still have it! 😎

So glad that they are able to tie in Alan Wake to their little universe they are creating. I just hope that they’ll be able to get the rights to Quantum Break again so they can start tying that in. I think the Max Payne/Alex Casey tie in works fine, and I’m sure they mention Max Payne more, but in this way, just because they know they aren’t going to get the rights for that game back any time soon. But I would love to read or see how the events of Quantum Break were an AWE, that the shifters are some sort of extra dimensional entities, and just how they can relate everything back to Control and Alan Wake.
Mostly because in the game they always bleep it out. It is explained that the name is unpronounceable to humans so they use the phrase 'scratch' to notate it.
I just hope their some cool over the top ending like maybe Jack Joyce coming out of some time portal at the very end asking Jesse and Alan Wake to help him save time.
@@GamingUniversityUoG well the simplest answer would be that when Polaris came back into Jesse's life/reactivating, much like with Jesse's immunity to the hiss and other effects of altered items, Polaris gave her immunity from the world altering effects of the dark place. This doesn't fully explain where she learned of Thomas Zane, and does still tie into the events of ordinary, but gives more significance to the resurgence of Polaris. The more tin foil theory I have, which I like more, is that Jesse is, with the possibility of the entire game of Control, a construct of Alan Wake. The highlighted missing chapter before "Return" is "Initiation" something that Control is, an immediate initiation of Jesse into the Bureau. The only real evidence I have of this is with Dylan's dreams, one in which he ponders over the gender neutrality of their names, the Board confirming this, calling Jesse, "Jesse/Dylan," and the hotline conversation of Wake Writes a Beginning, where it seems to imply that he wrote the whole scenario of Control to aid in his escape. With this theory, Wake could be using the fact that Jesse was created from something that happened in Ordinary, already making her a paranatural conduit, as the interesting poem does go, "Beyond the Shadow you settle for is a miracle illuminated." Jesse was perhaps Dylan's shadow, created when interacting with something like the slide projector, a perfect metaphor for such a creation. Something made not of just Dylan's shadow, but also the shadow of himself, something he could not accept in his psyche that was given form, something that would later regret that she abandoned her progenitor. Wake Writes a Beginning implies using Alice as a conduit, that Alan could manipulate people and places he was already involved with, through her. In some of the Bureau reports he was considered to be a prime candidate, so perhaps he already was at the Bureau and could manipulate it, or through Alice's brief visit he did. So if instead of Jesse being created in Ordinary, Jesse was a construct created to be the perfect hero that Alan would need to escape Cauldron Lake, using the events of Control to empower herself to do so. She would in essence be an extension of himself, share ideas and memories, as one would with their creation. Jesse being a simple creation, a slice out of Dylan's broken psyche, as much as the light switch was from Alan's. These are of course just odd theories of mine, as I actually think about this sort storytelling all the time and love thinking in the left field. Of course the whole team of Remedy does things so clear and succinctly that it puts my own ideas to shame. I do think that whatever the case Alan Wake has had much influence over the Oldest House and I'm very excited for what comes next. Sorry this was so long...
@@GamingUniversityUoG I think it will boil down to the extent of what altering reality truly is. Can Alan create anything he wishes, as long as there is some kind of dramatic balance (which is arbitrary at best), or can things only be reshaped in reality, distorting memories and perception rather than an injection of dreams into reality? Or perhaps it is both? Time will tell.
Your first question is still up for debate at this time. There are too many possibilities such as they both created each other, Zane was written to have written Alan within his story, or there was no creation so to speak the simply called out and anointed one another as part of their stories. This House of Dreams occurs (5) Years after the end of The Alan Wake game.
I guess the unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest "pun intended" there's lot of possibilities to support many thoerys I suppose we may find the answers pretty soon! Great channel by the way, I've listened to your alan wake content look forward to future content on the story!

By the looks of it there will be a new round of new IPs set in the Shared Universe before they return back to AW2 and Control 2. But with a much bigger development staff we won't need to wait as long between titles anymore.

I doubt you will see this but I believe I found the secret referenced in the song Take Control written by The Old Gods Of Asgard. Im uploading the easter egg I found and I wanted to ask, could you maybe take a look at the secret? It seems like a lot of lore was hidden with it. You can see it on my channel or find it in the AWE Expansion yourself. Its near the train hidden behind a painting and a secret wall.
The Federal Bureau of Control isn't going to force Mr. Wake to continue writing, because he is real and will be using the same ability here to help Jesse Faden in every way possible. As a DJ. For now. I'm an Ultimate Founder Fortnite, and will likely connect archtypes and dots that may span every fiction without "Destroying" them. Conquering? It's up to Frieza, for Space, And me with another for the things most consider... Fictional Artifacts and Anomolous oddities of all kinds.

He was an entity created as a mirror image of Alan after he dove into the Dark Place. He, however, became corrupted as a result of the urban legends told about Alan. He became the thing people said behind the writers back. Check out my mr. Scratch video for more details.
Thata the great thing is the acronym can mean anything we want lol. It is shown in Quantum Break to mean both Altered World Events and Alan Wake Experience.

The DLC were not about dylan, not even about Jesse, I assume that those plot points will be saved for Control 2, this dlc was meant to tease Alan Wake 2 and clear up misconceptions about the original

Yeah sadly Mr. Scratch has been messing with her for a while. He mentioned in American Nightmare that he would let her catch glimpses of him. Eventually, he would return and pretend to be Alan, assuming his life. Then when he got bored of this, he would kill her. He also appeared to Clay Steward on occasion.

Thomas Zane is a tricky one considering how the only info we get is through a 3rd party. But I'll definitely cover my thoughts on it. I'd keep an eye out on another channel Max Derrat. He has some thoughts on Zane and is working on a new video discussing the similarities between Tom and Polaris.

I’m sooo ready to save Alan Wake as Jesse Faden. Hopefully one of the other doors in the Oceanview motel leads to the reality of Quantum break and we get that in future DLC
Quantum break is happening in the same universe as control it seems.
Well the doors are labelled in the code. Black Pyramid, White Pyramid, Alan Wake, Control 2, Doors, and Vanguard.
The reason the Spiral Door leads to Alan is because it goes to the Dark Place, another threshold even though alan's from New York. If they get publishing rights for QB back we may see it down the line.

I finished it at 1am this morning as well! After finishing this I'm getting the feeling the Comics are not 100% Canon. Unless I'm missing something with the timeline for Dr. Hartman's journey after the Bright Falls AWE.

“While Hartman wished to form a partnership with the FBC, the Bureau found Hartman to be in violation of paranatural law, and detained him.”
In the comics, it doesn’t say who, so I was wondering what led to this realization. We know that he was apprehended, but was FBC the one he called upon waking up? I doubt.
I doubt he called the FBC. It sounds like maybe a person from a Paracriminal group that called him. He was on his way there but Hartman was arrested. I'd have to double check to see where Hartman was picked up by the bureau.

Great video. This video is what u should have uploaded 1st. I mean the explanation of the Alan wake game story on the surface. Then go into depth like how u started ur lessons from the 1st video. And same goes for Control and Quantum break. I mean, I had to process a lot by myself, a little help from a deep diver would help. :D
Sadly Control wasn't out when I first got going but I see your point. Weirdly enough I originally only had 7 videos planned and I was going to stop uploading after that. Control decided that those plans had to be changed lol.

All day I have felt like it was Wednesday. I just can't shake it. I have Thursday and Friday off, specifically for AWE. So I keep disappointing myself over and over again. I replayed Alan Wake before the AWE DLC, but I never got the chance to play "The Signal" or "The Writer" DLCs nor American Nightmare..I watched your Alan Wake lectures though..Should I try to finish them before AWE, or is it fine to postpone them for later ?
I would absolutely recommend playing the Writer and Signal as it gives you a good idea of how the Dark Place functions as well as Include a really cool new gameplay mechanic. Remember using words to create things at the end of the game? Imagine using that mechanic in combat to make explosions!
For american nightmare, there are mixed reactions to it but I'd say play it too. It fully expands on Mr. Scratch and sets up the manner that Alan gets info and sends info out of the dark place.
I'll definitely give it a go but after AWE as I already know almost everything about Mr. Scratch, and I honestly can't wait a second longer to get poor old Alan out of his 10 years imprisonment. Since the AWE announcement, whenever I pass by the spiral door I'm like "Hang in there buddy" :')
I'm already fighting the temptation to watch the first 15 minutes of AWE. Friends and family are starting to think I'm getting withdrawal symptoms or something lol.

Strange. When Jesse is quoting the poem by Zayne, there is a distortion in her voice. Some kind of feedback. It only appears while she is quoting him. Did they ever explain this? If not, what could it mean, beyond just being creepy?

Gaming University once Alan is rescued by Jesse in the AWE DLC he will be back in the real world and definitely get another game I think. It would be interesting if he gets offered a Job at the FBC since he was considered as a prime candidate for Director like Jesse and Dylan Faden

The worker asked me what kind of games I like and I said I loved single-player, story driven games. (I still do by the way) he said if I was into horror and I said yes so he pointed to a copy of AW and since it was pre-owned I could return it for a full refund within 7 days of purchase date if I didn't like it. 8/9 years later I still have it! 😎

So glad that they are able to tie in Alan Wake to their little universe they are creating. I just hope that they’ll be able to get the rights to Quantum Break again so they can start tying that in. I think the Max Payne/Alex Casey tie in works fine, and I’m sure they mention Max Payne more, but in this way, just because they know they aren’t going to get the rights for that game back any time soon. But I would love to read or see how the events of Quantum Break were an AWE, that the shifters are some sort of extra dimensional entities, and just how they can relate everything back to Control and Alan Wake.

Mostly because in the game they always bleep it out. It is explained that the name is unpronounceable to humans so they use the phrase 'scratch' to notate it.
I just hope their some cool over the top ending like maybe Jack Joyce coming out of some time portal at the very end asking Jesse and Alan Wake to help him save time.

@@GamingUniversityUoG well the simplest answer would be that when Polaris came back into Jesse's life/reactivating, much like with Jesse's immunity to the hiss and other effects of altered items, Polaris gave her immunity from the world altering effects of the dark place. This doesn't fully explain where she learned of Thomas Zane, and does still tie into the events of ordinary, but gives more significance to the resurgence of Polaris.
The more tin foil theory I have, which I like more, is that Jesse is, with the possibility of the entire game of Control, a construct of Alan Wake. The highlighted missing chapter before "Return" is "Initiation" something that Control is, an immediate initiation of Jesse into the Bureau. The only real evidence I have of this is with Dylan's dreams, one in which he ponders over the gender neutrality of their names, the Board confirming this, calling Jesse, "Jesse/Dylan," and the hotline conversation of Wake Writes a Beginning, where it seems to imply that he wrote the whole scenario of Control to aid in his escape. With this theory, Wake could be using the fact that Jesse was created from something that happened in Ordinary, already making her a paranatural conduit, as the interesting poem does go, "Beyond the Shadow you settle for is a miracle illuminated." Jesse was perhaps Dylan's shadow, created when interacting with something like the slide projector, a perfect metaphor for such a creation. Something made not of just Dylan's shadow, but also the shadow of himself, something he could not accept in his psyche that was given form, something that would later regret that she abandoned her progenitor.
Wake Writes a Beginning implies using Alice as a conduit, that Alan could manipulate people and places he was already involved with, through her. In some of the Bureau reports he was considered to be a prime candidate, so perhaps he already was at the Bureau and could manipulate it, or through Alice's brief visit he did. So if instead of Jesse being created in Ordinary, Jesse was a construct created to be the perfect hero that Alan would need to escape Cauldron Lake, using the events of Control to empower herself to do so. She would in essence be an extension of himself, share ideas and memories, as one would with their creation. Jesse being a simple creation, a slice out of Dylan's broken psyche, as much as the light switch was from Alan's.
These are of course just odd theories of mine, as I actually think about this sort storytelling all the time and love thinking in the left field. Of course the whole team of Remedy does things so clear and succinctly that it puts my own ideas to shame. I do think that whatever the case Alan Wake has had much influence over the Oldest House and I'm very excited for what comes next. Sorry this was so long...
@@GamingUniversityUoG I think it will boil down to the extent of what altering reality truly is. Can Alan create anything he wishes, as long as there is some kind of dramatic balance (which is arbitrary at best), or can things only be reshaped in reality, distorting memories and perception rather than an injection of dreams into reality? Or perhaps it is both? Time will tell.

Your first question is still up for debate at this time. There are too many possibilities such as they both created each other, Zane was written to have written Alan within his story, or there was no creation so to speak the simply called out and anointed one another as part of their stories.
This House of Dreams occurs (5) Years after the end of The Alan Wake game.
I guess the unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest "pun intended" there's lot of possibilities to support many thoerys I suppose we may find the answers pretty soon! Great channel by the way, I've listened to your alan wake content look forward to future content on the story!

By the looks of it there will be a new round of new IPs set in the Shared Universe before they return back to AW2 and Control 2. But with a much bigger development staff we won't need to wait as long between titles anymore.

It was good to see him. But it just made me sad that his original voice actor passed away from this came out.
I doubt you will see this but I believe I found the secret referenced in the song Take Control written by The Old Gods Of Asgard. Im uploading the easter egg I found and I wanted to ask, could you maybe take a look at the secret? It seems like a lot of lore was hidden with it. You can see it on my channel or find it in the AWE Expansion yourself. Its near the train hidden behind a painting and a secret wall.
Jesse mentioning Thomas Zane gives me the creeps. I still think that Jesse is a character written by Alan Wake.
The Federal Bureau of Control isn't going to force Mr. Wake to continue writing, because he is real and will be using the same ability here to help Jesse Faden in every way possible. As a DJ. For now. I'm an Ultimate Founder Fortnite, and will likely connect archtypes and dots that may span every fiction without "Destroying" them. Conquering? It's up to Frieza, for Space, And me with another for the things most consider... Fictional Artifacts and Anomolous oddities of all kinds.

He was an entity created as a mirror image of Alan after he dove into the Dark Place. He, however, became corrupted as a result of the urban legends told about Alan. He became the thing people said behind the writers back. Check out my mr. Scratch video for more details.

The DLC were not about dylan, not even about Jesse, I assume that those plot points will be saved for Control 2, this dlc was meant to tease Alan Wake 2 and clear up misconceptions about the original
