I saw a study done on mink. It was a video taped mink box set using a 110 conibear with regular trigger wirers. A mink passed thru it 33 times before being caught, imagine how many times a mink could pass through a larger 160 before if ever being caught. Food for thought when deciding what size trap to use for mink.

Thank you for this educational video. I have never seen a conibear used like this. The deployment and its blind set should be deadly I would think. Thanks for a great new set to put in my arsenal!

i use to make blind sets for mink but i had an old trapper teach me something i would have never guest ,make a pocket set in the bank or out of rocks at the waters edge and usually on the right hand side of the river or creek looking the way the water is flowing if more than three feet across and bait it with fish that has been in a pail with a cover on it with a temp of 50 -70 degs for two weeks, where i live i get two five gallon buckets of herring two to three weeks before season opens and cut them into fist sized chunks i put the heads in one bucket and the rest in another after two to three weeks i add two to three cups of canning salt to each pail to keep them from aging and freezing, then when you make your pocket sets find a tree branch with a Y in it to pin your fish in the top and back of your pocket hole from 8 to ten inches deep slightly angled upword from the water, i'll tell you right now this works great but it will make you want to puke when you first try it after i started doing this i would catch from thirty to forty mink in the two weeks i had off for vacation from work each year another thing i used only 1 1/2 long spring traps for mink they held good and never broke any legs, plus i have also caught fox ,marten, fisher, racoon, otter, and believe it or not timber wolves in these pocket set, all my traps were wired off so the mink would drown, usually to the limb of elder brush hanging over the water with 14 gauge wire and only remember ever losing one trap. if you want to catch mink give it a try you will see just how good it works.

    Hi
Any ideas how i can catch mink on land (not water) without the risk of catching a rabbit ??
    Thanks!

Just caught a young Mink, approximately 300 - 320 feet from a creek (deeper than the creek in this video). I was trying to trap either the rabbit or the possum, that has been raiding my garden. I slid the Havahart Live box trap between two shrubs with the back of the trap against another plant. I had carrot peelings in the trap for bait. So far I've captured rabbits and Possum. This is the first Mink I have seen in my area.

I prefer 120 and 110s but remember that triggers can be modified to catch even weasel

The Mink will come right down the stream and slide right behind the big hole behind your trap

Hey man I know it’s been a while since you commented, but I just wanted to say that for some people this is their source of income and food. I’ve actually got 2 squirrels tanning right now. My reasoning is I love the practice and I’m using all parts of the animal for something useful. Please don’t take this as something mean I’m just explaining you know? Anyway have a good day man!
