Thanks Ben much clearer now. I wasn't sure of the reason for the double zipper. Now I know. Also setting up the velcro to give a double gutter, that is a great tip. I loved your review on the Coleman queen size air matress so I have bought one. Will use that in our RV4.
Great video Ben you do great all the time and know your stuff....I'll be getting this once I get my RV tent I'm upgrading from the king's daddy deluxe swag 😎
@@SnowysOutdoors hey Ben do you know if this connector will run on any awning I just have a dune one from anaconda on my forester ? Diving deep into this rv setups they look.fantastic !
Hi Ben......I have now purchased 2 more caravan connectors from Snowys and I am using them to fill in the gap at the sides of the side wall kit. I have them connected vertically to fill the gap and attached the other side to my trailer via a sail track. can send some photos if you would like to see how it looks.
@antmobile3275 - my apologies! I misunderstood your question on my first answer. Unfortunately you can't attach the Caravan Connector to the tent body, only the awning. ~ Lauren
Keep debating something like this to connect the RV 4 to my ute roof. In hindsight, might just use bungee hooks and attach the front door panel awning, that is useless once the caravan connector is used, to my roof cage. Heaps quicker to pop on and off when you want to drive off too…
Thats actually a great idea @Ben Stanbridge, better to have flexibility with vehicle attachment I reckon...bungee hooks with be quick and easy. ~ Lauren
@@SnowysOutdoors Yeah, shame the front panel awning doesn’t have a zip at the bottom, that’d be ideal. Could fit a strip of sail channel to the roof cage and rip the panel on/off when you want to pull away.
Can you not use the caravan connectors on the sides? Would be great if they fit both sides as the sleeve it slots into can be bought cheap enough if they decide to fix the wall sides to a caravan or motorhome.
@josh close I hope I'm understanding you correctly - the awning on the RV tents is not square. The Caravan Connector only lines up with the length of the front edge, which is generally a fair bit wider than the side edges. ~ Lauren
Thanks great video again, just one question . Could i connect the caravan connector to my OZ tent tagalong to create a light set up tent for my Landrover defender.
I'm not sure what you mean sorry, 51foxy. For these to work you will need to slide the spline into a 6mm/7mm sail track which features on most awnings. You then connect the caravan connector to the end of an RV tent awning (not to the actual cabin) with the zipper. I hope this helps. ~ Ben
I'm not sure sorry, Jordan, there's a good chance they have used a Rhino rack specific zipper on the Bat Wing but I can't be certain on this sorry. ~ Ben
I think Oztent made a mistake with this one Ben. The zipper pull shouldn't be on the top for any reason and water stills leaks down between the vertically joined velcro tabs then through the zip. There's also an eyelet at each end that can't be used with the two velcro flaps pointing up! Flip the zip and velcro and get your awning height right and it works perfectly. Weird.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean sorry, LongStraightLines, I don't recall an eyelet at each end. I agree that the zipper would be easier to use if it faced the other way, maybe there is a manufacturing reason for it facing upwards. As for the velcro tabs, I think these are designed to accommodate various awning heights. In our video, the flaps point upwards, but it the awning was connected to a much higher sail track, the joined velcro flaps could be angled downwards to ensure water ran over the top of the join. Please do let us, and our viewers, know if I am missing something here. ~ Ben
@@SnowysOutdoors Hey there Ben, you can see the connector eyelets throughout your vid. I think they're supposed to drop over the pole spigots at each corner of the tent awning then the guy lines hold the awning/connector/pole set-up together. This would also pull the velcro join over onto the awning and make it more water resistant. As it is, water still leaks down through the vertical velcro join and zip because they're pointing straight up. If the velcro was on the top of the connector it would join flush with the tent awning, then you lower the car awning (as you should in the rain) and the angles are perfect with zero leaks. Regardless of any of that, the zip has been sewn in the wrong way around and the pull tab shouldn't be on the top! I own an RV and other Oztent gear and love it.. unfortunately there have been issues with quality control and warranty service but I persevere and it's the only tent set-up I use. You're doing an awesome job Ben and you've built up a cult following of sorts! True story mate and your name is often mentioned in the same sentence as Snowy's at plenty of places I've been.
Ah, I see what you mean, LongStraightLines, I can't believe I didn't consider what that eyelet was for. We usually need to work these products out as we go as suppliers are often light on with information on how to use their gear, hence why we create the videos, I did miss the eyelet detail though... dammit! I think this zipper, although awkward, is correct though. The zipper pull is actually the one on the tent, which is installed facing outwards to accommodate the font walls, just makes it fiddly to attach these connectors. So I guess it's important for our viewers to know that the eyelets can be used as you described, with the guy rope over the top to flatten the velcro strip/s hence creating a more waterproof join. Thanks for pointing this out and apologies to anyone if this caused confusion. I do think that your design idea is a good one though, with the velcro on the top side of the connector so it all sits nice and flush. Thanks for the kudos too, I'm glad the videos are useful. ~ Ben
It is a little fiddly, Linda, I agree. The zip on the tent is there for use with side walls as well, so I guess Oztent had to make it match as best they could for this product. I don't know of any other products on the market that do the same job though. ~ Ben

Very good idea. Would be so much better if you could attach front panel to car awning. That way you actually get extra room.

No, this won't work, Mark, the zippers won't have the right orientation, sorry. ~ Ben

Could you please tell me if the caravan connector will fit from the awning rail on my camper van to the canopy roof not the main oztent rv5

I just purchased this & it is an absolute pain to attach . Zipper is on the wrong side & the Velcro makes it even harder. Do not buy.
