will remember this game till the day i die. we were halifax fans and went over for the match, still the best atmosphere i have ever seen. you dont get anything like it anywhere else but england, central park, thrum hall, boulevard etc, them old grounds were awesome
I'm a Manly fan through and through and even I know we went into this game with a "we just have to turn up and we'll win" mentality. Damn if Wigan didn't knock that for six. We thought it would be like the Kangaroo tour games, but it wasn't. Wigan were the better team on the night and well done to them.
I was sat on the wall at pitchside for this match, 7 year old and my first rugby league match attended. Thanks for posting this, brought back many great memories!
Love this video! WIGAN WARRIORS RUGBY LEAGUE 'SIMPLY THE BEST' BEST IN ALL THE WORLD What a game this was? Not even a try scored brill, love it when the push that aussie over the wall and little Andy Gregg tells them off haha Shaun Wane what a character haha
what a night. Everyone thought it would be a cakewalk for Manley. Graham Lowe (wish we still had him) thought different and made sure the all british Wigan team did to. Ground was packed to the rafters with thousands locked out. Thanks
well said from a WIGAN FAN we allways support our brits against aus after all we gave them the game ,by the way congrats beating saints us in wigan loved it ! :)
Congratulations on putting on a magical Olympics. The British team were outstanding, the organisation and venues were brilliant and the opening and closing ceremonies were very entertaining and memorable. Well done.
From the mid 1980's to 1995 the Wigan club dominant rugby league in britain and the world club challenge matches, it was on a fluke that the brisbane broncos won the 1992 world club challenge. If you put the wigan teams from that period against the great St George side's from the 1950's to the mid 1960's, wigan would win!!!!(but we should really NEVER compare past era's)
I wish the poms could still play like this, would make games against the kiwis and aussies far more interesting instead of seeing them nearly always come in a distant third
@saintbowen79 by the way what a game you had with warrington that was a hard game well done saints your team showed the rest of us how much balls the saints team have if your down at the jjb this year ill have a beer waiting in the club bar for ya m8ty .
Don't know how I managed it but I conned my way in with a fake Press Card . Sat on the touchline behind the Dressing room End - Wandered in and out of the Changes room pre and after match. No security in them days , nobody ever challenged who I was - Brilliant
that was a gracker of a game by the look at that manly would have won by 20 in aussie land, it is a big advantage to the pommy sides dont you think, they should play 2 games one in each country and add the the total points to find the winner.
old fashioned biff, old school rugby league. Only thing is its wigan! (Yes i am a saints fan) No doubting though that this wigan team was very good, hanley was a different class
must admit manly did well hold out down to 12 for a longtime.been attacked all the time by wigan.wigan back then at central park was tough even more so with a full house behind them.they had amazing players and the ref in their pocket most of the time lol.they were a damn good team though once you got past that.aussie sides did do that.win their final then go on a bender i recognise vautin and shearer in that manly side queenslanders playing for a sydney side hmm makes me think they two faced.
@GanEdenAustralia - Only because Wormald was Manly's major sponsor. They were a security company. Michael O'Connor was even bought by Wormald from St.George and offered him a postition within the co, and that's why he was one of the highest paid players in the game. OK... I go back to a Daily Telegraph(Yeh, that NRL-owned by Murdoch paper) issue back in 1988/89 when they renewed his contract for $130,000 a season. Only King Wally and Meninga were the 1st ones to be offered $100,000 a season.
Yup we are crap at the moment but we have a history that no rugby league team to this day can not compare to,we will be back to the glory days untill you can win 8 challenge cups and 6 league wins and the best in the world 4 times come back and post ,and as 4 rugby is for wooses theres not 1 footballer that could last 15mins in our sport ,one clip off the toe nail and there rolling around like girls end off.
not being funny but not one team in the world at that time could of touched wigan 12 challenge cups in a row 8 leagues 5 world cup challanges ,the best without a dowt full fucking stop.
That league bit looked more like poor sportsmanship on both sides. It's like people who say they like ice hockey, but really just love it for the fights. I just don't understand. Seriously, what do people like? Seeing people play the game in a professional manner, or seeing folks booted in the head on the floor?
@clinny and did you know your country is too afraid to send their top club to australia to play? australian's sees these games as a preseason warm up because the roster of the team sent to England is different to the actual team that won the league in Australia. if you knew anything about adjustment to another countrys time zone from the other side of the world, maybe you'd understand why you're country's club always win. you think by beating the top australian club name is a big thing. ur a jk.
im sorry but u obv dont know bout the westies mate. if u started to beat them they fucking flatten you. Tommy Raudonkis, there halfback, got fired from being NSW origin coach cos of his rough play. he would call "cattledog" and the forwards would break the scrum and start a fight.
I went for A PEE AT HALF TIME ,I. OUR LEGENDARY RIVER CAVE,s ,BEHIND THE RATHB ONE COP ,THERE Was THAT MANY ,WIGIN LADS , RELIEVING THEMSELVES IT REMINDED ME OF THE DAMBUSTER,S RAID THERE WAS THAT MUCH PISS RUNNING DOWN THE HILL AT THE BACK ,! Just 1 of the hundreds, of HAPPY, HAPPY TIMES AT CENTRAL PARK , fun fact All THE RIVERSIDES were BRITISH PLAYERS , and SHAUN WAYNE ,m,o,t,m

Not Manly-Warringah's finest hour but I have a lot of respect for the Wigan Warriors (one of the giants of the European Super League)

My dad went to this game
I was there with my dad. Great memory of the Wigan crowd. Best atmosphere I ever saw at Central Park.
Nicky Kiss Forever!!!

nicky kiss was like a little terrier all night. he harried and hassled and got great ball to his forward pack, possibly his best game for wigan?

Hanley had an aura about him

@saintbowen79 its not often i agree with a saints fan :) but well bloody said m8!
@mightymaggies1 They came, they played, they lost. Take it with some grace, not excuses.
Bring back the biff!!! this game woulda been 10x better if it was Western Suburbs vs Wigan, wigan wouldn't know what hit em!!!
You're having a laugh aren't you? Western Suburbs Wussies!!!
not being funny but not one team in the world at that time could of touched wigan 12 challenge cups in a row 8 leagues 5 world cup challanges ,the best without a dowt full fucking stop.
They cant even field good teams without relying on the Aussies for the club games that comp is so lame without the Aussies.

Are you still whining because Wigan are still winning
