    That is super nice! I am slowly simplifying my current setup, since my beloved betta got sick and passed away. I have two elderly catfish. Once they have passed, only four snails and two shrimp will remain. At that point, I can downsize. Your videos are giving me inspiration as to how I can do that.

    i discovered this as well. I use the same type moss i pick from my yard and i use it on bonsai tress. a few small pieces of moss fell into a tray full of pebbles and water that i use as a humidity tray and a few weeks later i noticed they were all growing completely submerged and some protruding out of the water.

    So is it literally just a case of getting some moss, putting in water and leaving seeing if it adapts & surrives or just dies? is the any water changes or just as it first goes in? cheers

    • @4me
      @4me  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The short answer on your first question is YES with one important addition - you have to wash the moss clean of any dirt. I don't do water changes at all. You may want to check on this video for situations with spoiling samples that need water changes (I prefer to get a new sample instead of doing water changes and etc). This video should explain it all with regards for water changes th-cam.com/video/DWWGfuozMUk/w-d-xo.html
      And there is also matter of where to collect moss for your aquariums: th-cam.com/video/LRCmEXrh58s/w-d-xo.html
      And two ways of preparing land moss for growing underwater: th-cam.com/video/bK_gJD6lPIg/w-d-xo.html

    I ordered weeping moss and it came looking non weeping and scraped right off a tree. This whole moss thing makes me wonder if the stuff I see even growing on gutters would survive and grow underwater. Mosses are made of tough stuff.
    Just keep hair algae off at all costs ...it will smother and kill even Java moss.

      There is always a risk/ danger of getting harmful microorganisms with any new "things" you may add into your aquarium. Those may come with any samples (including things you buy from pet store or getting from your friends).
      I minimize the risk of such contamination by placing new samples into separate nursery for a couple weeks or so initially with snails and later with spare fish.

      I deem it is very possible to grow bonsai tree in aquarium garden. Though, I've been mostly trying to find plants, herbs, mosses and ferns that would grow underwater. Growing trees underwater would most likely cause water discoloration due to presence of tannin in bark of trees. But, growing trees on top, with only roots in water, is doable for sure - at present I've been testing bushes, that may appear as trees ;) There are many different possibilities and designs we can use in this regards...I am going to publish in this and following months some of my working prototypes that can be easily used to grow trees on top of aquarium ;)

    Whenever i wash the land moss it breaks apart. How can i do it properly?

    • @4me

      You actually do it properly :)
      Moss does not have root system to hold it all together. So, when you wash out all the soil/dirt there should be nothing left to hold it together. Moss with long strings or branches can stay put together if it gets tangled.
      I am experimenting with another way to adapt land moss. Specifically small size mosses that previously I was not able to wash clean for later reuse in aquariums for exactly the same reason - it always fall apart when I wash it. I will show how and what if it works out well ;)

    • @4me
      @4me  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is more than enough dissolved in water nutrition for moss, plants and algae to fit on. As a matter of fact, just judging by the pace of growth of the land moss on the land compare to the same moss growing underwater I deem there is more nutrition in water than in atmosphere/land for moss in particular.

    • @walley2637
      @walley2637 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      moss is delicate and doesn't like much anyways. anytime i feed my tress that have moss on them, i have to bottom water them as to not get any fertilizer on the moss or it will kill it. they really just want constant humidity and light to thrive.
