    Hi Nikki,
I’m the great grand daughter of Ella Cain, and just wanted to say, you did a fantastic job with this Bodie vlog! You captured the stories and the history very well! Thank you - love your channel. 😊

Was it Ella that wrote a book with stories of Bodie? Almost 30 years ago, I worked with an old man named Leroy, that worked with the Cain family in the 1950's. He let me borrow a book, written by the last resident of Bodie. It was a fascinating book. It couldn't be sold today without editing. The words she used to describe the minorities in town are considered political incorrect today. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the book.

    • @annekurt5818
      @annekurt5818 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

Yes, Ella did write a book called The Story of Bodie and it is still available at some of the local shops. She was a colorful storyteller and it was written with the language of that time period in that locale. Some of it is certainly not appropriate for todays climate, but like any period piece, it reflects stories as they would’ve been told in that era.

Super cool to see you post here and see this video! I grew up in Mammoth, near Bodie and went to Bodie many times from a very young age. I also remember the lake that was white! It looks the same to me that it did back in the 70s when I was 5 years old, so they're doing a good job of preventing its decline! Do you know did your grandmother teach in that schoolhouse that is still there?

I have heard a lot of stories about people taking stuff from Bodie..even simple rocks..and then having terrible experiences. Apparently the park receives letters and the returned objects in the masses. I would love to hear more about your paranormal experiences..it’s fascinating. I am certain your banana costume made the ghosts think twice.

Sounds like fun, both touring an old abandoned ghost town, to camping nearby, looking for ghosts. I use to camp in a campground back before 2015, before logging closed it, in a campground that was said to have been the site of several bigfoot sightings. Didn't bother me a bit. People would come down where I was camping, and they'd stay a while UP UNTIL just before dark, and they'd leave because they were scared. I don't know how many folks told me I was nuts. But, the only sightings I had were deer, turkey, and the weekend teenager population coming out to "get some fun" if you know what I mean. I loved it, though, because I was mostly alone, miles and miles from civilization, and it was so quiet and peaceful. Other than that sound of the ghost train coming thru the gaps in the mountains where the old 1800s era train ran, long, long years before....wind of course. Take care.

Love this, adventure, history... and Camper. The "ghost towns" I've seen are not really considered to be haunted, just haunting. AKA empty and "dead" with echos of times past. So I don't know that I would "worry" about bad luck there... but I also don't have Nikki's history with ghost towns.

Hi Nikki...You know there are 2 kinds of tour guides. One who tells you what
you're seeing. No brainer. The other is knowledgeable, observant, up on their
research who tells you things you don't see or know. The surroundings, history,
the feel of the place. And shares with you the "personal" stories of those times
and the people involved. Also having someone who's interesting to listen to helps
You Nikki are def that kind of guide/teacher. Thank you. Excellent video!
Although you really did it, Nikki. You started a fire(not literally) under a number
of people to seek, set out, visit and "delve in" to Bodie!.
I guess that will happen when you're a terrific storyteller/"travel agent"?.
And where else should you and Camper adventure or go?. What are you interested in, Nikki? Or fascinated about? What draws you in?!
The sky's the limit... But Be Safe. Take Care Nikki... Steve...
Btw: I've heard So.Calif. is a "strange" place to go and explore?!? You never
    know what you will find?!..

Well if you want route suggestions - you could do the full length of US395, San Bernardino up to Kamloops BC. Save that for spring, you could like follow the weather up, arriving in BC in June, seeing wildflowers all the way. Then the full West to East run on the trans-Canada highway, start in Victoria BC, go all the way to PEI. With a few episodes poking around the big parks by Banff and Lake Louise, maybe a run up to Edmonton. Once you hit the Atlantic, head down to Key West, lots of history along the way, then back across the SW, boxing the continent! Collapse in San Diego for R&R.

Thank you for the tour. Being a retired history and geography teacher, I believe this was one of your top videos. Stories about ghost towns and the old west are so interesting. You should check out a couple of spooky towns in old Nevada. Must have been spooky sleeping there. Glad Camper was there- he is an amazing dog.

That was really cool how you described it and went through the history and tried to document the night. I hope you do a ghost tour around Nevada also and there's lots of TH-camrs in that area. Also, it'd be good to see a collaboration might be outside of your comfort zone but i dare you 😊

LOVED this video! Nice, interesting "history tour" - great footage of the old buildings and their oddly preserved interiors. The "banana phantom" out of the darkness was so silly and fun! My dream is that I encounter you one of these days when I'm out adventuring around. I think you'd be so much fun to hang out with as we're both silly, adventurous, independent women ;)

My Mother and I visited Bodie's ghost town. in the 1970s and we planned after touring the buildings to have a picnic. Unfortunately they didn't have any public restrooms (just an old doorless outhouse) and no private place (I was young!), so we turned around and drove the 10 mile dirt road back. So I'm glad that I get to see it via your Overnight at an Abandoned Ghost Town. Interesting to see the various buildings and to learn about the history of Bodie. Your scary Banana 👻🍌😮apparition gave me a bit of a fright but I was relieved to see it was just you and Camper. Whew!
