    Such an insight for me around the 31:30 mark and the discussion of center-shafted putter heads wanting to rotate. I've been using a center-shafted putter and I'm starting to think that alone may be the starting point of my putting problems. Time to go get a putter fitting!

    This vlog is another reason I'd be a kid in a toy shop at TXG... definitely be all sorts of awesome to see a TXG/Crossfield team up. Dovetailing on each others 75/25 fitting and teaching....

    I can’t wait to go to Toronto from Florida and get fitted with Ian. I love the idea of him saying he is 75% club fitter and 25% teacher. That makes a huge difference. I went to a company in Florida that does what you do. It was a major costly waste of time. Cant wait to hit my driver over 300 like Matt does! Great job guys.

    You guys and Crossfield are my favs. Glad both of you have an understanding where each is coming from. I just hope when Matt is done with all these fittings he does a WITB to confirm he got all these toys! That reminds me though that you may want to do an actual bag fitting for him too! Keep up the good work guys!

    What a fantastic and thorough process for Matt's putter fit. I had a putter fit myself and it didn't scratch the surface on what you went through. That said, I've never putted so well landing far more putts from distance and hitting the short ones so much more consistently.
    These are by far the best and most informative videos I've seen by far in terms of passing on knowledge to the average golfer when it comes to equipment. Great job again guys!

    Hi Ian /Matt, Thank you.... 3 weeks ago I watched this putter fitting, What a learning curve. I have all ways had a problem with distance control. I tried reducing the loft my putter, to start a better roll. The first game I hit every thing 2 meters past the hole, I thought is the ball really rolling better or am I just bashing it.. over the next few games I realised the lines I have all ways seen were not far wrong. With a better roll came better distance control, I was sinking a lot more putts. Last Sunday No 3 Putts, 7 One putts and 11 two putts. :-) with that my best ever Gross score. Thank you... Keep up the awesome work.Rick ChapmanNZ

    Interesting that you said Matts slant neck style will stay more open as opposed to the plumbers neck on the Odyssey Microhinge. I thought the opposite would occur as it has more toe hang/flow ?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Distance between the neck of the putter to the toe is the bigger factor, apparently! That one was crazy for me to hear as well 😆- usually I have some familiarity with the concepts Ian talks about but this time there was tons of stuff I had virtually no clue on.

    Lots of stuff. You May want to consider producing an encapsulated version focusing on key elements and steps rather than a lot of discussion - fascinating though it was. A question for you re lofts or a reaction. Recently I played 50 rounds in 60 days but because I wanted to walk (not use carts of any type) I decide to only take a half set (and no putter - though my new Scotty Cameron 6m futura putter off the shelf with no tweaking is working so much better than any putter before) and used my 3 hybrid (19 degree Mizuno clk) as my putter and wow I was putting better than ever before - mostly one puts, odd two putts and no three puts in about the last forty rounds! Any thoughts of what might be happening and as such what might be worth looking at or working on. Never had a putter fitting and so far have not been impressed by two significant fits and ok (but nothing to write home about as the saying goes) with the last one though these were on wedges, irons and driver/hybrids and 5 woods respectively.

    Ian what do you think of Edel putters where you can match up heads hostels sight lines and everything

  • @brentkrug
    @brentkrug 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bobby Grace also is a fan of face balanced arguing that face balance has less rotation on the way back so it helps people be more square at impact. But being that most people putt on arc according to SAM or this lab they would NOT need face balanced. Interesting dynamic bc I could see face balanced rotation less open on way back but obviously it will not close enough for the arch guys on the forward stroke.

  • @CosmicApe
    @CosmicApe 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ian, by what you’re saying then would a putter like a classic Wilson 8802 or even a more modern Odyssey #9 have the least amount of face rotation?

  • @jamesmcdonald2044

    For myself this would be a very interesting fitting because I make my own putters. Im on my 3rd putter now, newest being a mallet style like the odyssey #7 made from 303ss machined face with less loft. I went with this style for better alignment it having 2 lines. Its flatter than average 69* .. Has toe hang and good weight. So far this season im putting very well with it but to have it all measured like this would be cool.

    It's here!!!! Been waiting for this one. Great job on it guys. I've been on a sam puttlab and looking at this quintech is pretty cool and looking at it all from a different angle. My stroke is good but i hit a little high in the putter face, so that was delivering too little loft. My biggest issue with putting is leaving putts short. I'm assuming that's from not getting the ball up on top quick enough and why i putt better on quicker greens, as that is less of an issue. Would something like the o works help with the additional launch angle from the o works face?
    Also, crossfield is the biggest reason i started questioning things in the golf industry, I've always liked his views on it and especially the fact that people should not be fit by handing and much more about how they're able to swing a club and that blades vs big cavity is not what it seems and that many more people should play a smaller head, for example.
    And then you guys have taken those thoughts and just prooven everything with data and facts that i have found myself and i have questioned. I'm not like crossfield in the way that i do react to the change in shaft feel and it effects my direction. I also think this is amplified the more speed you put in. Mark swinging driver at 103 mph in my thoughts may be effected less than matt at 120mph. I may be wrong there and it may be completely about feel. But i have noticed it enough in myself to know it has a big effect on me personally. For example, i play nice draws with my rogue silver 70x shaft but i find the atmos black in 70x hard to turn over. I'm assuming the atmos is a stiffer profile, especially in the handle? Because that is where i seem to feel the difference, and i also assume it deflects less, causing it to be harder to turn over.
    I'm also a much later release player, where crossfield is not so much, which i have also read that makes less impact on what the shaft is doing, so in ways, it makes sense why it doesn't do much for him shaft wise.
    I'm rambling again 😂😂

    • @scotty_teee4226
      @scotty_teee4226 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TXG Tour Experience Golf oh ok, i thought it was also a little more lift, as well as roll. I guess a change in loft or stroke would always be better for that anyway

    @Original_Stance 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think mark opinion is only valid for some people from my old drive shaft to the new one change my launch quite a bit from a 16 degree to 14 degree launch given I already use a 913 d3 7.5 degrees of loft set down to 6.75. I don’t think most companies make less than a 7.5 degree driver.

    Great session again guys. Loving the clips. I had my first putter fitting about 18 months ago and felt daft for never doing it after playing golf for over 25 years and having numerous driver fittings etc. Can't recommend the process enough. I may have misunderstood this, but did you say that the alignment line on the putter isn't in the middle of the putter head?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's in the symmetrical centre of the putter head, but there's actually more mass slightly towards the heel of the putter due to that being where the head joins the shaft. So the sweet spot is actually slightly towards the heel.

  • @Your_Mailman_Grows_7121
    @Your_Mailman_Grows_7121 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfortunately I missed the live stream.
    I feel like I know the general idea of toe hang, face balanced etc. but learning about the launch and how delivery of the head at impact can affect it was quite interesting and hearing about how a certain miss "may be helped" with the change of toe hang to help fight that miss was very interesting. Also that many pros don't aim dead straight but play for that ever so slight push/pull setup but do it constantly, every interesting.
    Going to look into the Ping app and device now.
    Do you feel the felt board/dew board is worth investing in as a training aid or really only meant for fittings? Would it be helpfull to work on strike with the roll and launch with the Ping app by using that board.
    EDIT: Never mind only for Apple phones unfortunately.
    Lastly not on this video, but how does iron shaft length affect playing charcteristics of the shafts, if I play my Steelfibers i95s at +.5" would that make them almost like being soft stepped (but tapered tip). No need to answer it hear but if you remember in your upcoming shaft video that'd great. Interested see this new shaft video. You guys and Mark are the 2 golf channels I like the most (and fried eggs golf).
    As always an awesome video. Not easy to keep lots of people interested in almost an hour and half video on just putting, but this was.

    So much information to take in on this video it's crazy. How much weight would you usually put into a counter balanced putter?. I tried a 50g weight before and didn't notice much difference.

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Odyssey we tested in this video had a 50g weight for example. It depends on the player, if 50g didn't offer much to you it would be worth trying a heavier counterweight.

    Great vid guys, as always. However want to clarify something, regarding centre shafted putters. Don't understand why they twist even more. In my case just cannot get on with toe hang putters, have a straight back, straight through putting style. Tried a TM Spider and it felt good, although started to struggle after a couple of months. Then went to a Yes Natalie cut to 33.25 inches and the results are simply much better. Am I the exception to the rule? Also is a forward press necessary to produce the most efficient and effective putt?? Thanks guys

    I have some Bobby Grace and they def roll the ball better no doubt......Only thing with them is some models are very heavy so without any counterbalance you get into E or F swingweights........with a non CB grip. Do most PGA guys play more the Low to mid D swing weight range for putters?

    • @clubchampionmedia

      Assuming no counterbalancing, over-length, etc. most traditional putter setups your see on tour would be in that range.

      Don't have Edel putters in the shop for testing at the moment Jason, maybe in the future though. We'll do a video on putter grips in the future for sure.

    Enjoyed this quite a bit. No chance to get to my question live. Agree with Matt practice is key but approaching 80 my back can not get past 15 minutes. Have always used 34 inch (5ft 10 with 72 inch arm span) but would a longer shaft help me stand more erect ergo less pressure on back. If so, what length makes sense.

      It would certainly make an upright stance more comfortable Robert. See if you can demo a 35" or 36" putter to start and see if it helps.

    Hi guys, what are your thoughts on the directed force putters? Also how would putter weight affect pace? I like a heavy + counterbalanced putter as its helped on the short putts and stability but feel like pace has suffered. Is it more to do with impact conditions as you stated with Matt?

      Weight would have a huge amount to do with your distance control. We'll be doing more putter videos in the future so stay tuned!

    So if I understand correctly, my old Tommy Armour blade putter would be a good alternative to prevent closing face

    Great video guys. What was the blade putter that Matt picked up that was face balanced?

      Testing my memory Scott, what point in the video did I pick that one up?

    A curiosity. Didnt you guys originally say that the anser putter with forward shaft lean gave 0 degrees of face loft at impact? did you guys ever bend it to give 2 degrees more loft and test the roll? It would be very interesting to see if the effect of the microhinge could be duplicated with a little more loft on the anser. Maybe i missed it.
    In summary:
    Microhinge impact 0 degrees of face loft: optimal roll.
    Anser impact 0 degrees of face loft: not so great roll.
    Anser impact 2 degrees of face loft: untested?? did you ever bend it and test? Would this condition produce roll like the microhinge?
    Further curiosity...Microhinge at 2 degrees face lofted at impact: what does this produce?
    Great video guys! thank you so much for doing all you do to give solid information backed by objective results!

      Ian can probably elaborate on this more, but the microhinge was producing more RPM of forward roll even with the same stroke and other launch conditions. I don't think the loft would impart roll on the ball the way that the insert did. We'll be doing more putter videos for sure though, feedback was great and we can see that viewers are curious for more info.

    SUPERB Vid Guys, So much information, I think I have blood trickling from my ears due to an exploded brain! This is the very first Putting Vid that I have managed to watch all the way through, well done!
    On the Mark Crossfield "Love In"; I am So disappointed, I REALLY wanted Ian to give Mark a "Glasgow Kiss"! Seriously though, I have always found his use of the term "Shaftoid" highly and deliberately offensive! I hope one outcome might be that he shows more humility in future and is less of an annoying Southern Twat! Ooops..... Sorry, the Tourette's syndrome is kicking in again

    My wife and I have an option of checking our existing putters or looking at new ones if really more suitable through either a Quintic session or a Samputt lab. Any recommendations from your experience on which would be more suitable, comprehensive and accurate. Both groups of course say theirs is the best. If I was sometime to consider coming to Toronto for a driver fitting once I have completed my current planned process, then I might consider adding a putter review too. But that’s a moot point at present.

    I can’t get anybody to bend a putter upright. I have a “curl shafted” two ball putter. I like to put straight back and straight through with my eyes over the ball, fairly bent over. The heel is, therefore, off the ground. I would love to get the putter head flat on the ground, but like I say, everywhere I’ve taken it, I get the same story: “We can’t bend a shaft like that.” Really?

    I am super looking forward to you guys doing joint videos with Mark Crossfield!!! I've been very confused as to whether to fit or not to fit, whether to rate coaching lessons higher than club fitting or not!!!?! Can you fit Mark's equipment and see if Titleist did a good job fitting his equipment??? And throw in some crude balls with other manufacturers n see if he could indeed have any change or not?? I'm a fan of Mark so this is in no way hostile towards his amazing knowledge. But I just want to know learn for myself... thanks!!!

    guys scotty cameron says the opposite of what this guy says,,,he says that for people with lots of face rotation you should get a toehang putter,,,,ifrom my perspective....i think seems logical that a toe heel putter magnifies your fce rotation, but cameron says that if u dont have a toehang putter you will miss putt to the right,,,i bough all my putter just as this fittier says....so...im lost...

    Has the grass length any importance when choosing the putter loft?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup for sure. Long video I know but there was a section of it talking about that. Generally speaking a little bit more loft can help on slower or bumpier greens, but there's other factors involved depending on the person's stroke.
