It’s funny how the perspective of the age gap has changed as we have gotten older, where as when I was 15/16 skating with you guys you all seemed so much older than me but now at 34 I’m like oh 38 is right there…just an odd thing I noticed while watching this
Love Colin’s skating. Love his POV. Continually inspired by him. Colin's thoughtfulness and humility is also so welcome. Imagine the next generation of skaters who will arise with people like Colin at the helm…
I've always felt like rollerblading was closer to breakdancing than skateboarding. Some moves juste cannot be defined, they just feel good and look good.
Colin and Sean are so fascinating to listen to. I really loved this and all of Colin's interviews. Would love if him and Sean did something regularly or semi-regularly where they just...talk. One more thing - I actually think it's' kinda cool that the BPSO final round organically moved to the stair rail. That's the energy and natural rhythm of a competition that I love.
great episode... loved the constructive criticism about judging contests. There is pretty coherent judging in the SLS format that I can predict from just watching it regularly although I don't skateboard. Could be a blueprint for blading series (we should bring imyta back) 🔥
In regard to scoring pedagogy and olympic level sport - I could see olympic blading being segmented into events similar to skiing and gymnastics: Blading Downrail, Blading C-Ledge, Blading Halfpipe, Blading Megaramp. Scoring would then be focused on the particular skillset required for the obstacle in use. Gymnasts don't enter a room and have access to the rings, balance beam and pummel horse all at once (although it would actually be cool to see someone make use of a space like that in a timed run.) You might call this limiting, but I think it's a proven way to give focus to the minutia of a particular sport in a way that allows it to be analyzed easily for competition.
I think we should have all the pros weigh in on some sort of competition standards. Ice skating has been critiquing form for decades, Im sure we could borrow some of that if we wanted to find better ways to articulate the rules
Good stuff, and yes plenty of similarities between skating and rap. For instance, I’d argue they share the same two criteria to reach a “pro” or “icon” level: a) complete control (over your words or skates/movement) and then b) people know exactly who it is from the get-go, and there is no confusing you with anyone else, either when they show up on the screen or get on the mic. Both Colin and Sean satisfy these criteria obviously…to extend the comparison, I think Halleran was the closest equivalent to B.I.G., in terms of how easy and natural they made it seem
What an amazing dude to have on a podcast.. Kelso’s are awesome..
So many good points made. Every time CK is on the podcast it’s a fun listen
he drops knowledge every time
Colin looking more like a sports car salesman here than i am used to.
haha
“His power was illuminated full spectrum” 😂 amazing. Don’t ever change Colin.
Dude is amazing for our sport….and the Kelso’s are a huge piece keeping it alive…hope in another 20 years rollerblade hall of fame for sure !

One of the best of all time, could listen to Colin all day. Great episode guys. 👏
should we do more with him?
@Jump Street Podcast if he has the time and wants to do more then yes for sure.
And yes Dom Bruce first run was absolutely incredible, to see him do that in person was really mind blowing
agreed, watching it on the internet and feeling the energy in person was on another level

I started off as a BBoy and I see what you're saying. I think in both disciplines, you need a level of "Soul" or Rhythm or style, what have you.
Happy Bday Austin
thanks brother!
Preach Colin! ✊🏼❤️🔥
Colin looks like one of the Beatstie Boys in the thumbnail 😂
What an epic episode, Colin you are also super legit man! Austin and Billy it was awesome chatting with you guys at Blading Cup!

56:44....this is why we had the ASA (rip), you could even look up a skater's flow/AM or Pro status and they had their rules right on the site
Agreed! Doms first run was the highlight of the whole contest fr. Colin’s a legend ⚡️ great interview brother

@@Neo-ti2rz that Philly section in VG was always sick. Selwin Briggs i think his name was Tim Taylor and that Chesire guy

It’s interesting. I always thought Colin always had his unique twist on skating, especially in Checkmate
Was it checkmate?
@@kingrando it was everything hes ever had a section in haha
True dat. I thought I got a vibe he wasn’t keen on Wizard, but his style of a suited to adopting the tricks. Why I made the comment at the time. Haha
Colin looking like he just won The Masters lmao

@@JumpStreetPodcast not sure if you’ve seen Wild Style but lots of parallels between graffiti writing and street skating as well
Re: Chris Edwards trick, if he kept rotating to fakie that'd be quite cool
I call it a full torque i didn't realize no one else did lol
Mylo the Cat is the hip hop cartoon guy I think.
Colin is a legend…and those other two aren’t bad either😉
