Looks absolutely beautiful. As a longtime fan of the Tales series, I can say this is the most excited I've been about the next entry. Arise is such a big leap forward from the last several games that all felt like they were made with the same engine and template.
@@brotbrotsen1100 Zestiria is my least favorite too. I haven't played Hearts, Graces, Symphonia 2 and the Japan only ones, but of the ones I have played Zestiria is sorely lacking.
@@1ofthewizards330 I played a few Japanese ones with a guide in front of me, tales of rebirth was pretty damn good, graces has a great combat system and hearts was okayish for something that's only on handhelds, ToS 2 isn't really worth playing either tbh. I was pretty dissapointed with the series when xillia came out and zesteria was the final strike for me though i heard beseria is good so maybe i try it out in the meantime.
@@brotbrotsen1100 Berseria is one of my favorites. It has a darker tone, and the battle system is very fast and fluid without the unnecessary complications that were added for Zestiria. I think Bandai Namco got the hint that they were losing people with Zestiria and the series had become too cute and as the kids say "cringey" at times. I don't know if the kids are still saying cringe, but they were a couple years ago.

I feel like there's been a resurgence in demos lately because of how graphics have evolved. Video compression just doesn't do much for the look of a game and a lot of people are complaining about the appearance of modern games because of this. A demo allows people to PROPERLY see what the graphics look like.

Tales series is like literally my favorite arpg/jrpg game series of all time and I couldn't be more happy to hear all the good things about it.... Im going to play the heck out of this game.
Tales is one of those series that has passed me by for one reason or another. After seeing this one in motion I immediately got excited for it. The aesthetics and the characters look stellar. So I'm excited to make this my first Tales game.
I have yet to play a Tales game that surpasses Abyss in terms of characterization and storytelling. Here's to hoping that Arise might live up to that game.

the first interaction reminds me how despite how minor the skits may seem they do A HELL of a lot for characterization and making you feel for the characters the character aren't just alive big cutscene to cutscene they exist within the world and react to it sometimes giving you little tid bits about areas and what they know about them to light hearted banter or even reactions to events that were shown in a cutscene but then the skit elaborates on their feelings about it. GENIUS.

In any case, interactions, even if about something like "ass and tits," can be fun and shed some light on the characters involved? Like in that moment, Rinwell comes across as light-hearted, whereas Kisara seems more reserved and possibly self-conscious. In any case, I hope you don't expect all of the skits and small conversations to be along the same vein; there should be a good mix of goofy and serious, like in any party-driven JRPG.
Same but with Dragon Swarm and Tiger Blade as well. It's crazy to think that little things like these old/classic artes appearing again don't carry as much meaning to those that haven't been playing the series for a long time.

Really nice to hear this from a TalesFan perspective. Not to knock the other TH-camrs that posted their preview. But i got the feeling it was the first tales games some of them played. You however are giving a breakdown of the characters & systems. The kind of character, skills, cooking, crafting bits & system specific information & changes. The stuff i want to know as a fan of the series.
tbh if DDO (Dragon's Dogma Online) wasn't canceled we would've had this and tales of arise to bounce between, but either way I've played 2 of the tales games didn't finish them of course due to reasons but I am looking forward to this one.

The visuals and especially the art are phenomenal. The Tales series have long since been near the top with leading the charge with visuals in Jrpgs, but it's not often that such such aggressive art style is paired with envelope pushing technical visuals for the genre. It looks absolutely beautiful.
Dang. Never realized I hadn't subscribed. Rectified! In any case, great coverage, Jay! I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit more than I was before I saw your video. I don't know if it could possibly exceed my love for Tales of Berseria, though. Storylines/themes are often the most important things to me in a work of fiction, as well as good characters, and Berseria blew me away as far as JRPGs go. The darker morality and character flaws of its playable cast, its villain had a better argument for his actions than most (though "Why do birds fly?" got old and a bit pretentious), and there were a lot of morally gray or dark moments in the game. The moment when I realized Velvet was taking in the first stranger she viably could and had begun turning him into a surrogate for her little brother she'd lost was both a heartbreaking moment for me, as well as super twisted and enjoyable as an interesting bit of storytelling ordinarily absent from a lot of games in this genre. I couldn't put Tales of Berseria down, except to go to work, and finished the whole thing in under a week with all side quests completed. Normally, it takes me months to finish JRPGs because I get bored or disinterested in them, but if I wasn't working, eating, or sleeping, I was playing Berseria. Heck, I couldn't even *think* about the art during the ending credits of Berseria (the "dream" stuff) without getting misty-eyed for a few weeks after I finished the game because it had me so emotionally invested, while so many JRPGs want to be storylines with the same sorts of characters we usually see, taking on villains who couldn't possibly try to justify their actions, with gaping plot holes throughout the storyline and no moral ambiguity or fantastic scenes. It's my hope that Arise can...well, "rise" to the challenge of being a follow-up in the series to Berseria that won't leave me disappointed.
Looks amazing. I hope we get more doc outfits than just the ones in the digital deluxe edition. I also hate being punished for buying physical by missing out like that.

Berseria will probably remain my favorite, i got so attached to Velvet and her crewmates that it will be hard to top them for me. But i'll admit this new Tales is looking sexy. If this is done by the same director of Berseria, then you'll know this will be good.
I know how that feels, it's the same way for me and the Vesperia cast. Although the next game may not become our favorite, it's still probably gonna be a great experience.
Loved beseria for velvet too and very very nervious battle system with a nearly unvulnerability as far you manage your cristals. Velvet breaks guard and dont get unbalanced except with some few ennemies.
Destiny is still my favorite. I do however like most of Berseria's cast. Just that knight female came off empty. Compared to rest. Even if you don't miss anything to her, because you can. I liked unweilding swordsman and witchy witch most. She just reminds me to A lil to Abyss favoriate character. Jade.
The battle system is like a combo of previous games with a few new mechanics. I loved doing linked moves in Xillia so I’m glad that’s in here. This is so fascinating. I can’t wait to play the game!
I see the combat is still in instanced arenas, instead of just plopped into the world your walking around in, which, after Zestiria, I think is the right choice. The combat in general looks like an absolute blast, and I am very curious to see if they can finally top Graces when comes to combat design and feel. I must admit, I was kind of afraid things like character banter and cooking were going to get the axe, seeing how the trailers focused on some of the darker aspects, but that's clearly not the case and I am so happy. Also, LMAO-ing at "Kisara has a huge arse ... shield that she uses in combat" 🤣
@@NotCharAznable : The reason it's being seen as the 'right choice' is because of the problems it caused in Zestiria and Berseria. With the hectic Tales combat, trying to trigger fights anywhere caused a lot of problems with movement and camera, and the team behind Arise tried out both methods for this game and chose arena fights because they genuinely felt it was more fun that way. Tales isn't built with environmental features in mind, (unlike Ninja Gaiden or Dark Souls), so fights end up needing clean, open spaces to work well, and that would definitely force their hands a lot when it comes to area design, especially if they need to fit a certain number of encounters into an area to provide the player with EXP gains and drops etc. While there's immersion in enemies not triggering separate battles, there's also immersion to be found in enemies not being segregated to obviously open 'battle zones' while going through an area or dungeon.
Currently playing it through for the first time since elementary school. The style of game is a little outdated and Grindy but it hasn't lost any charm . Gonna play Zestiria and bersaria for the first time next
@@basedgodly1623 thats why i loved abyss and later Vesperia, basically the same fighting style but just a little bit more polished. Vesperia is still to this day my favorit when it come to fighting and atmosphere.
Ok...they finally did 1 thing with the world/field map that i've wanted since the move to the field map for exploration: added natrual wildlife (cows and pig like creatures (want to say they're Pikkards...but think that's Ys/Trails not Tales lol...was it rappigs? It's one of the other if i'm right)) into the world as well as small houses/farms/etc to flesh the world out more. If there's one issue i have a concern with after watching this video it's the amount of artes you get...from what i saw you don't get arte trees and only get the 3 artes buttons with 2 artes applied to them when either on the ground or air...i'm really hoping they add something like the artes ball or there are trees but you need to get an item to unlock them fairly early on cause it will just feel weird only having 6 artes to use at any specific time (and even then whether or not you can use them will be limited by if you're in the air or on the ground)...in some ways this feels more like a step back for the combat especially when you consider the Xillias and Vesperia allowed you to freely use 16 different artes (48 if you're playing Ludger via his weapon swapping) in any order you wished (and didn't limit them in any way by pushing them further back into a arte tree like the arte tree games...the one aspect of those games i didn't like much). If they make it so holding L1 and R1 will change the artes then that will at least allow you to choose from any 9 (18 when you consider ground and air artes...saying 9 cause it's 9 different inputs witht he only change being whether your character's in the air or not).
One thing I'd like to see continue in the Tales series is more interesting protagonists. Velvet was a huge development in Tales characters, where before main characters seemed to follow a pretty typical JRPG archetype.
Honestly I'm surprised you were able to keep quiet about this so long. This is gonna be a good birthday month. And fall too my preorder list is growing again.
I can see like visual pop-in & visually see LODs(Level of detail) culling in some of the 3D meshes. I really hope the devs fix this stuff for the final release. Also, I wish your companions explored the world with the player. I’m excited but I hope they improve some things.
I also like how they're talking during the fights. You can see shion saying more fighting less talking on the left hand side of the screen so it would be sick if they would talk to each other during combat. All the other games in the series just have them congratulating each other or saying attack names. Having them talk during battle would make it seem more.....realistic I guess?

Fortunately the wait for September wont feel to unbearably long with both Scarlet Nexus and Monster Hunter Stories 2 to keep me busy, with a side order of Legend of Mana.
The fact that you give this game so much praise, which you also did for Scalet Nexus, a game i have some massive gripes with, makes me extremely nervous.
Arise looks so good to me, as someone who was introduced to Tales properly with Berseria (and loved it) and went on to try Xestiria (and couldn't stand it). The aesthetic itself is very appealing to me, and the combat looks to be more like an action game than the sort of pseudo action/turn based systems from the two games I've played.
Looks great, though there is one thing I wish anime RPG's would start fixing by this point and that would be general mouth movement during regular conversations. But other than that the game looks great, though it makes me worried on whether my rig can run it. It is getting a little old now by this point. And I hope the story will be good, there just hasn't been a tales game with a story I would consider above and beyond since Abyss.
Looks great! I've played only a few Tales games: Xillia (Loved it) Xillia 2 (Didn't do much for me) Berseria (Annoyed me) I hope this one is as good as it looks, really.
How’s the exploration? The world looks beautiful and huge, but is that all there is to it? Is it a huge but empty world or is there lots of interaction and things to do and discover? Can you fish??!
How’s the English VA? OST? Is there a Magilou-esque comic relief character? It may not be open world, but is the world more realistic and varied than the corridor-room-corridor format of Berseria?
How were the enemies in the portion you played? The B-roll tends to focus on characters performing winning arte combos and doesn't include much enemy aggression. Did it feel like enemies could fight and, (aside from the obvious weak spots), did they make you approach them in different ways? :) Some of the animations I did see looked much more well-done than any previous Tales and I think it's partly the exaggerated enemy designs that make it work better. I was OVERJOYED at some of the things you mentioned in this video, most of all how the combat may finally steer away from the excessive focus on combo stacking. "Without having to pre-plan a string of 58 specific artes against a specific enemy with the right hitbox and enough HP". Pretty much summed up my issues with past systems there and confirmed exactly why this game has been my most anticipated entry by far. :) I'm also gleeful over the return of a feature that gives you access to the skit library and I love that cooking was paired with new character interactions in this camp system. I was worried that that feature might feel like it got borrowed from something else, but it feels very fitting for the system in Tales to focus around the very 'Tales' feature of cooking. Having tons of area-specific chatter in both post-battles and just wandering is more than I even hoped for an exactly what I want from a Tales game. To me, Tales is a series that truly blends its character interactions in with the gameplay rather than being separated into "Gameplay Time" and "Character Interaction Time" and with plenty of other great games taking inspiration from that, I'm happy to see the Tales series push it even further forward. :) Looking forward to possibly the best year of gaming ever, and more Shionne snark. XD
Boii I didn't think Shionne was THAT cute actually (8:41) hoolyy moly everything about this game about to be eye candy not only the environment & vfx 😍 And that glare at 10:17 reminds me of Velvet's lol I really wish they didn't reveal like ALL of the cast from the beginning before the game even launches, I'm trying my best to not memorize them but doubt I'd not recognize them immediately once I get to play, I really like surprise effects and discovering :l Soo glad they overhauled their map & exploration systems, many levels felt very stale in Berseria and the inability to jump or have any sort of mobility other than walking felt very restrictive. I was initially very displeased to hear they kept the souls resource for artes but since this time they brought back basic attacks that should be fine and complement it well. Looks like Bamco's Tales studio didn't just change of engines but also their mindset and prolly some of the staff to bring the next mainline title to such seemingly astounding level.

I AM SUPER STOKED FOR THIS GAME!!! I have a series S... all I can read is "Series X|S will have a 4k mode and a 60FPS mode..." I hope that is for both... pc recommended settings only require a GTX970 which is a (GREAT) 4gb GPU... so hopefully those series S specs are true.
I hope we get more Dohalim combat footage in the future because so far he's my favorite character just based on character design alone. Plus Rod/spear users are my favorite from past tales games
Dohalim combat was super fun, I really enjoyed Alphen, Kisara, and Dohalim in combat. The others will take longer than I had to really get a feel for, Rinwell seems like she'll be a lot of fun if you take the time to learn her playstyle.
There have actually been a number of games with free movement as a default, and free running has been a mechanic since... I belive Tales of the Abyss was the first. The more traditional titles were in line, but it hasn't been an across the board thing since 2005 or so.
I really hope we get a new star ocean game this console cycle. The last one was pretty bare bones low budget. This looks like one of the better tales games.
🤩... this looks awesome! Not only does the style and aesthetics of the game look good, but it’s nice to know that the combat system feels intuitive. Zestiria, IMO, didn’t have a friendly system, but had a nice style. Zestiria had a good system but was bland in presentation. This game looks to combine those things. Oh and I love the costumes.
Graphically, I think Tales always got most of its charm from its designs, not how it rendered objects. Nice looking characters and landmarks made it pretty pleasant to look at in places, but the actual graphics didn't do much for basic objects and landscape elements. This new shader really adds something to even the more basic parts of the environment. :)
Im just suprised this actually has a launch date and is coming out before Granblue Fantasy: Re-link. Havent heard anything about that game since Ys 9 released.
You made me excited for this game I saw the soul gauge crystals in trailers and was skeptical, but now I think this game has great potential Definitely going to buy it If it has a great story and a great postgame this will be a very great game I've accepted that the nebilim weapons won't return at this point, but if they did it would also be amazing

Mystic Artes in Tales of Berseria are insanely powerful though, you just have to use them at the right time.

I became unreasonably excited when I saw that Alphen has Sword Rain: Alpha.
Same but with Dragon Swarm and Tiger Blade as well. It's crazy to think that little things like these old/classic artes appearing again don't carry as much meaning to those that haven't been playing the series for a long time.

Really nice to hear this from a TalesFan perspective. Not to knock the other TH-camrs that posted their preview. But i got the feeling it was the first tales games some of them played. You however are giving a breakdown of the characters & systems. The kind of character, skills, cooking, crafting bits & system specific information & changes. The stuff i want to know as a fan of the series.
This looks like it might be the first game to compete with Dragon's Dogma in terms of satisfying ARPG combat.

The visuals and especially the art are phenomenal. The Tales series have long since been near the top with leading the charge with visuals in Jrpgs, but it's not often that such such aggressive art style is paired with envelope pushing technical visuals for the genre. It looks absolutely beautiful.

Dang. Never realized I hadn't subscribed. Rectified! In any case, great coverage, Jay! I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit more than I was before I saw your video. I don't know if it could possibly exceed my love for Tales of Berseria, though. Storylines/themes are often the most important things to me in a work of fiction, as well as good characters, and Berseria blew me away as far as JRPGs go. The darker morality and character flaws of its playable cast, its villain had a better argument for his actions than most (though "Why do birds fly?" got old and a bit pretentious), and there were a lot of morally gray or dark moments in the game. The moment when I realized Velvet was taking in the first stranger she viably could and had begun turning him into a surrogate for her little brother she'd lost was both a heartbreaking moment for me, as well as super twisted and enjoyable as an interesting bit of storytelling ordinarily absent from a lot of games in this genre.
I couldn't put Tales of Berseria down, except to go to work, and finished the whole thing in under a week with all side quests completed. Normally, it takes me months to finish JRPGs because I get bored or disinterested in them, but if I wasn't working, eating, or sleeping, I was playing Berseria. Heck, I couldn't even *think* about the art during the ending credits of Berseria (the "dream" stuff) without getting misty-eyed for a few weeks after I finished the game because it had me so emotionally invested, while so many JRPGs want to be storylines with the same sorts of characters we usually see, taking on villains who couldn't possibly try to justify their actions, with gaping plot holes throughout the storyline and no moral ambiguity or fantastic scenes.
It's my hope that Arise can...well, "rise" to the challenge of being a follow-up in the series to Berseria that won't leave me disappointed.
Looks amazing. I hope we get more doc outfits than just the ones in the digital deluxe edition. I also hate being punished for buying physical by missing out like that.

As someone that has only played a few Tales games many moons ago, I want to give this a shot.
Berseria will probably remain my favorite, i got so attached to Velvet and her crewmates that it will be hard to top them for me. But i'll admit this new Tales is looking sexy. If this is done by the same director of Berseria, then you'll know this will be good.
I know how that feels, it's the same way for me and the Vesperia cast. Although the next game may not become our favorite, it's still probably gonna be a great experience.
Loved beseria for velvet too and very very nervious battle system with a nearly unvulnerability as far you manage your cristals. Velvet breaks guard and dont get unbalanced except with some few ennemies.
Destiny is still my favorite. I do however like most of Berseria's cast. Just that knight female came off empty. Compared to rest. Even if you don't miss anything to her, because you can. I liked unweilding swordsman and witchy witch most. She just reminds me to A lil to Abyss favoriate character. Jade.

The battle system is like a combo of previous games with a few new mechanics. I loved doing linked moves in Xillia so I’m glad that’s in here. This is so fascinating. I can’t wait to play the game!
I see the combat is still in instanced arenas, instead of just plopped into the world your walking around in, which, after Zestiria, I think is the right choice. The combat in general looks like an absolute blast, and I am very curious to see if they can finally top Graces when comes to combat design and feel.
I must admit, I was kind of afraid things like character banter and cooking were going to get the axe, seeing how the trailers focused on some of the darker aspects, but that's clearly not the case and I am so happy.

@@NotCharAznable : The reason it's being seen as the 'right choice' is because of the problems it caused in Zestiria and Berseria. With the hectic Tales combat, trying to trigger fights anywhere caused a lot of problems with movement and camera, and the team behind Arise tried out both methods for this game and chose arena fights because they genuinely felt it was more fun that way.
Tales isn't built with environmental features in mind, (unlike Ninja Gaiden or Dark Souls), so fights end up needing clean, open spaces to work well, and that would definitely force their hands a lot when it comes to area design, especially if they need to fit a certain number of encounters into an area to provide the player with EXP gains and drops etc. While there's immersion in enemies not triggering separate battles, there's also immersion to be found in enemies not being segregated to obviously open 'battle zones' while going through an area or dungeon.

I love how the tales reviews and vids still use the Tales of Symphonia soundtrack to this day. I spent days on that game :)
Currently playing it through for the first time since elementary school. The style of game is a little outdated and Grindy but it hasn't lost any charm . Gonna play Zestiria and bersaria for the first time next
@@basedgodly1623 thats why i loved abyss and later Vesperia, basically the same fighting style but just a little bit more polished. Vesperia is still to this day my favorit when it come to fighting and atmosphere.
Ok...they finally did 1 thing with the world/field map that i've wanted since the move to the field map for exploration: added natrual wildlife (cows and pig like creatures (want to say they're Pikkards...but think that's Ys/Trails not Tales lol...was it rappigs? It's one of the other if i'm right)) into the world as well as small houses/farms/etc to flesh the world out more.
If there's one issue i have a concern with after watching this video it's the amount of artes you get...from what i saw you don't get arte trees and only get the 3 artes buttons with 2 artes applied to them when either on the ground or air...i'm really hoping they add something like the artes ball or there are trees but you need to get an item to unlock them fairly early on cause it will just feel weird only having 6 artes to use at any specific time (and even then whether or not you can use them will be limited by if you're in the air or on the ground)...in some ways this feels more like a step back for the combat especially when you consider the Xillias and Vesperia allowed you to freely use 16 different artes (48 if you're playing Ludger via his weapon swapping) in any order you wished (and didn't limit them in any way by pushing them further back into a arte tree like the arte tree games...the one aspect of those games i didn't like much). If they make it so holding L1 and R1 will change the artes then that will at least allow you to choose from any 9 (18 when you consider ground and air artes...saying 9 cause it's 9 different inputs witht he only change being whether your character's in the air or not).

One thing I'd like to see continue in the Tales series is more interesting protagonists. Velvet was a huge development in Tales characters, where before main characters seemed to follow a pretty typical JRPG archetype.
Velvet will be really hard to top for me. As cool as this game seems to be, i think Berseria will remain my favorite because i love Velvet that much

I played one of the Tales series when I was little and forgot about the series ever since. Can't wait for this one to get back again!
I also like how they're talking during the fights. You can see shion saying more fighting less talking on the left hand side of the screen so it would be sick if they would talk to each other during combat. All the other games in the series just have them congratulating each other or saying attack names. Having them talk during battle would make it seem more.....realistic I guess?

Fortunately the wait for September wont feel to unbearably long with both Scarlet Nexus and Monster Hunter Stories 2 to keep me busy, with a side order of Legend of Mana.
Scarlet Nexus is visually how I would’ve expected the next Tales of game after Berseria to look, but I’m really digging the visuals of Arise
The fact that you give this game so much praise, which you also did for Scalet Nexus, a game i have some massive gripes with, makes me extremely nervous.

Arise looks so good to me, as someone who was introduced to Tales properly with Berseria (and loved it) and went on to try Xestiria (and couldn't stand it). The aesthetic itself is very appealing to me, and the combat looks to be more like an action game than the sort of pseudo action/turn based systems from the two games I've played.
I've been playing the tales games with a team of friends for every entry this being changed to just single player is a bummer
Looks great, though there is one thing I wish anime RPG's would start fixing by this point and that would be general mouth movement during regular conversations.
But other than that the game looks great, though it makes me worried on whether my rig can run it. It is getting a little old now by this point. And I hope the story will be good, there just hasn't been a tales game with a story I would consider above and beyond since Abyss.

The world looks beautiful and huge, but is that all there is to it? Is it a huge but empty world or is there lots of interaction and things to do and discover? Can you fish??!

How’s the English VA? OST? Is there a Magilou-esque comic relief character? It may not be open world, but is the world more realistic and varied than the corridor-room-corridor format of Berseria?
that claim means a heck a lot to me coming from you. that's awesome to hear.
How were the enemies in the portion you played? The B-roll tends to focus on characters performing winning arte combos and doesn't include much enemy aggression. Did it feel like enemies could fight and, (aside from the obvious weak spots), did they make you approach them in different ways? :) Some of the animations I did see looked much more well-done than any previous Tales and I think it's partly the exaggerated enemy designs that make it work better.
I was OVERJOYED at some of the things you mentioned in this video, most of all how the combat may finally steer away from the excessive focus on combo stacking. "Without having to pre-plan a string of 58 specific artes against a specific enemy with the right hitbox and enough HP". Pretty much summed up my issues with past systems there and confirmed exactly why this game has been my most anticipated entry by far. :)
I'm also gleeful over the return of a feature that gives you access to the skit library and I love that cooking was paired with new character interactions in this camp system. I was worried that that feature might feel like it got borrowed from something else, but it feels very fitting for the system in Tales to focus around the very 'Tales' feature of cooking.
Having tons of area-specific chatter in both post-battles and just wandering is more than I even hoped for an exactly what I want from a Tales game. To me, Tales is a series that truly blends its character interactions in with the gameplay rather than being separated into "Gameplay Time" and "Character Interaction Time" and with plenty of other great games taking inspiration from that, I'm happy to see the Tales series push it even further forward. :)

I really wish they didn't reveal like ALL of the cast from the beginning before the game even launches, I'm trying my best to not memorize them but doubt I'd not recognize them immediately once I get to play, I really like surprise effects and discovering :l
Soo glad they overhauled their map & exploration systems, many levels felt very stale in Berseria and the inability to jump or have any sort of mobility other than walking felt very restrictive. I was initially very displeased to hear they kept the souls resource for artes but since this time they brought back basic attacks that should be fine and complement it well.
Looks like Bamco's Tales studio didn't just change of engines but also their mindset and prolly some of the staff to bring the next mainline title to such seemingly astounding level.
I've never played any of the tales games let alone many jrpgs in general, but this looks fantastic. If I were to play any of the tales games that are out already, what should I start with?

I AM SUPER STOKED FOR THIS GAME!!! I have a series S... all I can read is "Series X|S will have a 4k mode and a 60FPS mode..." I hope that is for both... pc recommended settings only require a GTX970 which is a (GREAT) 4gb GPU... so hopefully those series S specs are true.

Dohalim combat was super fun, I really enjoyed Alphen, Kisara, and Dohalim in combat. The others will take longer than I had to really get a feel for, Rinwell seems like she'll be a lot of fun if you take the time to learn her playstyle.
So the movement is completely free in battles? No more moving in a line with an enemy?
There have actually been a number of games with free movement as a default, and free running has been a mechanic since... I belive Tales of the Abyss was the first.
The more traditional titles were in line, but it hasn't been an across the board thing since 2005 or so.
I really hope we get a new star ocean game this console cycle. The last one was pretty bare bones low budget. This looks like one of the better tales games.
I tried out Vesperia, but the combat just didn't feel right to me so I returned it. This looks like it would feel ALOT better. I might pick it up.
🤩... this looks awesome! Not only does the style and aesthetics of the game look good, but it’s nice to know that the combat system feels intuitive. Zestiria, IMO, didn’t have a friendly system, but had a nice style. Zestiria had a good system but was bland in presentation. This game looks to combine those things. Oh and I love the costumes.
Graphically, I think Tales always got most of its charm from its designs, not how it rendered objects. Nice looking characters and landmarks made it pretty pleasant to look at in places, but the actual graphics didn't do much for basic objects and landscape elements. This new shader really adds something to even the more basic parts of the environment. :)
