The judges obviously had to judge two dancers at a time. It was funny to watch the pairs trying to outdo each other when they got their chance. The last guy stepping out in front of his rival was brilliant!

It would be interesting to hear a history of dance in Ireland. Have always loved watching it . Still, did wonder why it's done only with the lower part of the body. Once ,when younger, jitterbug, swing dance etc was my joy. A whole body experience. Any chance we could see a place for history of dance in Ireland or a suggestion to credible sources. I'm an Irish dancer and my mam is a dance teacher. She told me that the reason why it's done with the legs only is so that English soldiers and guards passing by homes and pubs couldn't tell as easily that they were dancing, since pubs had those doors that could open seperately at the top and at the bottom. Since Irish dance and culture was outlawed, it's similar to the situation of Capoeira in Brazil. On the other hand, Sean Nós (old style) dancing from the west coast (I believe) is the predecessor of modern Irish dance, and apparently comes from an older middle eastern dancing style which uses the feet, and looks very similar to Sean Nós. There are theories that Irish culture and genetics are influenced by Phoenicians and Arabs who sailed up the Mediterranean to the west of Ireland a long time ago. The evidence is also seen in the Irish language with its verb-subject-object word order that is non-existent in other non-celtic european languages, but is seen in semitic languages like Hebrew and Arabic. Irish example: Chuaigh mé go dtí an siopa (went me to the shop) So that's my long answer lol
