Dana Joan we do on a regular basis. Unfortunately we are fundamentally very different people and I often find that the best way we can show each other love is be giving each other space. Hopefully one day we will find a better way, but until then we just do our best.

Oh my gosh.. my mom used to sing it to me.. but she only knew the first verse.. so did I (she taught me) she had dimentia and Alzheimer's.(she lived in my home with me. I took care of her.).. but still sang that song to me 7 year's ago she had to say goodbye in my arms.. my heart went with her.. how ironic because the 2nd verse discribes me to a "T". So very thankful that I had her.. my heart breaks a little each day cause I miss her so.. I know she's waiting for me.. she was my best friend. Hold your mom close if you have her.. she's the only one you'll ever have.. and it's like loosing everything when she has to go.. you never get over it.

My mom used to sing this to me when I couldn’t sleep (which was often) I cry every time I hear this song because I know I can never replicate the feelings that I felt when she would sing this to me. I also remember my dad and I singing this to my sister when she was a baby because she IS our sunshine. She is THE single reason that we get up in the morning, if it weren’t for her, my dad and I wouldn’t be here today. You have no idea how much this cover means to me. This is such a beautiful rendition and you deserve ALL of the flowers 💐.

I also lost my grandma. When I saw her in my dream, I hugged her tight too. I told her I could not live without her, and it is still makes me sad. She gave me her cross (I am a christian) and put it at my neck. When I woke up I asked my mom if my grandma had a cross. That is what she said.

My grandparents on my dad's side both passed away ( my grandma passed away before I was born from cancer and my grandpa died in his sleep) and my dad's in the hospital now

I remember when we celebrated my grandma's 98th birthday and after cake she pulled me aside and said "The best people will die, my dear," and a few days later I realized she went to the doctor and figured out she was going to die. This was her favorite song...it used to mean nothing to me, but now it means something. My only comfort is knowing she'll be waiting at the gates of heaven with her arms wide open for me.

My tears are flowing reading these lyrics. My mom sang these to me when I was a little girl. She sung them to me to wake me up in the morning and also when she tucked me into bed each night. I lost her to cancer when I was in my 20s. I am now the age she was when she died. I still miss her as much as I did the day she died. Those of you who still have your moms show her and tell her how much you love her while she is still here. ☀️

When I had this song I was feeling sad and lonely when I carefully heard " you make me happy when skies are grey " I felt like this was Jesus to me I felt him making me happy in my sad grey world,and each time I feel sad I sing it thinking of how Jesus is there for me and meditating that I can stay with him through it all

My dad would be 80 years old today! He passed when I was 7 and for a long time I never felt sad, I knew he was in my heart but as I got older I got told to be sad and that he was gone! Well I grieved felt sad but one morning about 8 year ago I randomly got this song in my head, at the time I had a singing channel on TH-cam and as I checked my inbox to see what videos people had shared that day to me “ you are my sunshine “ was one of them, I truly believe that was his way of reminding me he is still here and always will be, I can’t actually feel sad anymore because I know that just blocks the signs he sends every day to me! Beautiful cover! I can't listen to this without tearing up (who am I lying to, I'm ugly crying right now) and I don't care how silly this sounds but I sometimes sang that song to my dog, I love him with all my heart and he helped me through the hardest times in my life. I'm not sure if I'd be here to write this if it wasn't for him, so he really was the sun in my life that kept everything together. He passed away in april after 12 years and the darkness he left behind will probably forever cast a dark shadow, but the light he brought to my life will always shine bright. Hey Kina, you don’t know who I am but this cover that you made has been the only thing that got me through the past few months. I lost my sunshine and I’ve been absolutely heartbreaking but being able to listen to this and smile back at the good memories. So though you never will see or think of me, you saved my life. I thought about this song every single day when this whole nightmare began. Today, I lost my beloved pet of almost 14 years. My sweet Sandie girl was a good girl, that never left my side even when she became sick. I have always sung "you are my sunshine" to her and my other pets. Making the hard decision to put her asleep was heart breaking for me, and but I could not let her suffer. As I laid on the floor in the vet's office to be with her as they injected her, I petted her looking into her eyes and sung this song to her. After she passed, everyone in the room cried. I will never forget her! I loved her so very much! My furbaby, loyal to the end!♡♡♡ love this song! Thank you!!

Such a long time ago, lol. I instantly connected with her. Some days, I almost think I hear her coming around the corner in my home. She was so much part of my routine, so it's been hard some days. One day I hope to save another one when the timing is right. My other fur babies, 6 cats have helped me some days. Have a blessed day!!

This is the first song I ever heard my mom sing .. & the first song I ever sang .. some nights I’d sing it to put her to sleep .. some times she’d sing me to sleep .. one year ago exactly something horrible happened & I lost her but as she was passing we sang it together one last time .. the saddest part is we only ever sang the chorus it wasn’t until after she passed that I heard the song fully & broke down at the second half of the song .. “the other night dear as I lay sleeping .. My mom had cancer and passed away on my birthday 3 years ago. When she was in hospice in the transition phase of it, in and out of sleep, we sat outside together and she wanted to sing this with me. And we sang this together and to each other while we held hands for the last time. Only the chorus. Heard this and lost it. That verse got to me too. Heard it the day after I had a dream of her as well. I feel you completely. Nothing like your mother man 😭😭😭😭 prayers for comfort from someone who's been in the same position.

I’m 18 now and she’s battling stage four cancer… I sometimes lay next to her in her bed when she’s having what I call “sick days” where she doesn’t have the energy to get up and sleeps all day, and I hold her hand while she’s sleeping and sing to her, “you are my sunshine, my mommy sunshine” and it’s a bittersweet feeling because I know that she doesn’t have much time left but in that one short moment we’re together and that’s all I can ask for. Anyway, this song means a lot to me and this woman’s beautiful voice fits the feelings I get listening to it perfectly.
I chose this song as my Sons senior Baseball last game walk up clip. I am going to ball my eyes out knowing I've had him in Baseball since he was 4 years old and in a few days he will play his last game with Varsity. My Mom sang this song to me and I sing it o my 3 boys. This version is so beautiful.
My Mom used to sing this to me and my Sisters all the time. I haven’t herd her sing in sometime due to the disease Huntington’s. She used to sing in little bars and pubs as a teen but never got a start up opportunity! Her name is Tammy Hutchins and I would love to see her name in the credits!

Beautiful! I think it's hard to make a simple song for kids like that into something that adults will enjoy, but you have such a sweet, gentle voice, you do it perfectly!

my dog of 8 years passed away almost a year and a half ago. i sang this to her the night before she passed away, and now here i am, sitting with a plush that i named after her listening to it play a prerecorded barking sound, pretending it’s her even though i know that existence is only temporary and i won’t ever be able to feel that warmth of love from her ever again.

My Opa sang this song to me the first time he saw me as a baby, when we were homeless and living with our grandparents he would sing this to me while slowly rocking me to sleep in his old chair. He died in his sleep due to pancreatic cancer while I was camping with my dad, I always blamed myself for it because we were the closest and I was the only one who wasn't there. When this song played at his funeral it just broke me, I was only 12 and I was one of the people helping to carry his coffin to his burial place. It was all I could do because I was too distraught to talk during the service like some of my siblings. I could only cry. I was the last one at his grave (aside from my mum and dad who were divorced but still both loved me) and I was just on my knees crying for almost 3 hours. He loved rabbits and had so many pet rabbits and loved anything with rabbits. as I was being driven home by my mum (all my siblings went with my dad/cousins) we accidentally hit a rabbit with our car and it just broke me. Thank you so much for all the beautiful memories and I hope you are surrounded by all your baby rabbits Opa, it's been 4 years and I still love you. We all do.
