Just watching this takes me back over 50 years to when I was a child watching my mother cook sloppy joe's for dinner. She made them different than you do, but the concept was the same. Plus my mother would never have gotten rid of the fat...fat equals flavor! My mother's cooking, while delicious, was a nutritional nightmare. Oh well, some things are better left as memories.
+Howard B Glad it brought back good memories! Yes, fat always has a lot of flavor! I've found that even after draining the excess fat from the pan, there's still enough left in the meat to taste good. Thanks for watching!!
I love watching your channel! Such great recipes and you make it so easy to follow! I was watching this video on my phone the other day as my husband was driving the car. He couldn't see the video, but he was listening to it. After a while, he says, " You know that guy's voice sounds like Tom Selleck." I never thought about it before, but he's right!
+Gayle Sharpley Thanks, Gayle! I've never heard that comparison before, so I will have to pay attention to Tom Selleck's voice. I guess if I can't look like him I'll have to settle for sounding like him ;-) Thanks so much for watching!
Guy, this is awesome! I just made your recipe for our dinner and we are licking the pot! I've never had scratch version before, only manwich. Ugh. Your recipe is just flat out bomb diggity!
Binge watching again! I've watched this episode several times, love the recipe, but I just noticed that box of Hostess Suzy Q's on top of the fridge!! I haven't had one in years!! I loved Suzy Q's, Ding Dongs, Hostess Cupcakes, Ho Ho's and Twinkies! A taste of childhood!! Take care!!
Hi Greg! We actually have a related video to this sloppy joe episode coming up! Like you, I loved all the Hostess treats growing up. They went bankrupt a number of years ago and stopped producing, and it was a while before another company bought them and Hostess was back on the shelves. I think Twinkies and cupcakes were the first back, but when they re-introduced the Suzy-Q I just had to try them! They were good, but didn't taste as great as I remember, although I was remembering through the taste buds of a 12 year-old! LOL
I made a variation of these tonight, just what we had. Bought some chilli sauce with this in mind and added the allspice and cinnamon. Very good and so different from what I always thought when thinking of sloppy joes.
Best moment of the video Ralph: "Do you want to show people your buns?" Kevin: "I beg your pardon!", a moment worthy of Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont!
Don't mind me ...I'm just missing you guys. I decided to watch a few videos to get my fix. I hope you two are well and your Thanksgiving was wonderful. BTW...I liked the celery joke 🤣🤣🤣. 💖💖💖
When I have Sloppy Joes I usually have them open face on a plate. Much easier to eat them with a fork then as a drippy sandwich. Your friend seemed quite anxious to get inside and attack your cooking! ;)
+tallboyyyy Do you know that I often eat sloppy joes that way, too!! Much less mess!! Yes, our friends loved the food and there wasn't much left over! Thanks for watching!
For the liquid leftover I would refrigerate it then remove the solidified fat from it to then add it back into the recipe or use it as a base for another dish. Thank you for sharing.
Kevin and Ralph, We love sloppy joes at our house and this recipe looks really good. I really liked that there were so many nice chopped vegetables in it and the mushrooms are something I have never put in when making mine, but will definitely try. I miss my Krogers grocery stores. Had them in Ohio where I grew up. How were those dark rye buns? Love the fact that they were nice and big.
+Cathy Aquilina Thanks for watching, Cathy! The mushrooms add some meatiness to the flavor and mix in very well. There is a Kroger very near me, so that is my regular shopping spot. They just remodeled all the stores in Michigan and I enjoy shopping there. The dark rye buns were GREAT!! They had a nice rye/pumpernickel flavor! The onion rolls were more popular, but I enjoyed the rye buns because they were something different. Hope you give the recipe a try!

Great story!!!! We come from hard working families in Detroit and food was always a big part of everything we did! Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein was the favorite! Thanks so much!!
Hi Sharon - that is a 1963 Westinghouse "Terrace Top" stove - it is split level with the two front burners lower than the back two. They made these for a few years in the 60's and it is a pleasure to cook on this vintage range! Thanks for watching!!
The meat would reabsorb the liquid back. That's all the flavor and nutrients in that liquid. I would add a thickener and the other liquids and keep the liquid gold. Gringos don't know what's good anymore. Ralph is right.
Sloppy joes are an all time favourite in my household. I love adding mustard and apple cider vinegar, a little brown sugar also. Looks delicious
+FitAnge S I like the things you add into your sloppy joes - sounds very good! Thanks for watching!
I spy with my little eye-pyrex mixing bowls! I love peeking into your kitchen for cool vintage finds, we are alot alike!
+stewie poohie Yes - your eyes spied correctly!! Thanks for watching, Stewie!

You're welcome wifey and mommy - we appreciate you watching!
Best moment of the video Ralph: "Do you want to show people your buns?" Kevin: "I beg your pardon!", a moment worthy of Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont!
+Howard B Hi Howard! It's hard to say "buns" and not want to laugh...you'd think we were 10 year olds sometimes!!
Kevin, you didn't mentioned your stove brand and model. It's interesting looking that two level surface stove.
Gilberto, that is a 1963 Westinghouse "Terrace Top" range. It's a great design!
Kevin that looks great
+earl hanson Thanks for watching, Earl!
My pleasure

Hi Betty - what a great idea! That tasty fat would make a nice start to something! Thanks!
I love that stove Kevin is it an older Magic Chef?
+Patricia Sue Perkins Dudzik Hi Patricia - it is a 1963 Westinghouse Terrace Top Range. It's a lot of fun to cook on!
I love the stove what is the name of it?
Hi Alaina - that's a Westinghouse Terrace Top range. Thanks!

FUNNN...card Parties need to make a come back!!
I agree! Thanks!
I need to see more videos!!!!! It's been awhile!
+Tracey Domangue Hi Tracey! We're working on it!! Life has been TOO busy lately! Thanks for watching!
I think the only ingredient I would add, is a dash of liquid smoke. But that does look great.
+Krieghandt Yes, a little smoky flavor would be great! Thanks for watching!

mom made brisket with that chili sauce
+Patricia Sue Perkins Dudzik I always keep a couple of bottles on-hand...I'll bet your mom's brisket was good with that chili sauce!
Sound is terrible. Can you fix this?
Sorry about the sound, Tehila! There must have been a tech issue.
What kind of stove is that??????? Love some sloppy Joes!!! I will put some chili sauce in mine next time! YUM!
