    Maybe you should contact Crayola and see if they would consider either changing the formula or the colour itself for pale rose. Great video, Thanks!

    Pale Rose reminds me of a Dusty Pink or Potter's Pink. I love dusty colors like stone, pewter, misty grey, silver fox, grey lavender. Grey is the most important color to an artist, especially bc while tints & shades are often discussed, tones tend to get overlooked. A tint is what happens when you add white, a shade is what happens when you add black (or in the real world: add a complimentary color), and a tone is what happens when you add grey. Beautiful colors like Sage and Plum can be achieved with grey. Anytime I want to create a jewel tone or I want to create interest & depth, I'll mute a busy/distracting color with grey. It allows the surrounding colors to shine even brighter. I've seen artists use grey or sepia to create light values that weren't even there. Smoke, clouds, glass, gems, pearls, pupils, teeth, seascapes, etc. don't come about from white color, they're actually colored by shading with greys. Beautiful colors like French Grey, Payne's Grey, Slate, etc. create the dimension that's often lacking in basic artworks. These muted tones need way more love. I'm so glad you're giving Pale Rose a chance!

    Pale rose is fine as long as you test it and know what you've got first. Not everything is super bright. It would be good for a faded/antique look, like an old scary doll in the attic or something. Never trust how the outside of the pencil looks ever lol

    Really enjoyed the video. A question for you. What pencil sharpener do you use? I have terrible time with sharpener digging into the pencil, taking out chunks and sharpening unevenly. I'm sure my cheap sharpener is doing me no favors. Thank you & I subscribed.

    • @jennaturin9885
      @jennaturin9885  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Great question! And yes, the sharpener is super important! The right sharpener helps your pencils last longer and while the pencils come and go, you can have the same sharpener for years, so it's worth the investment! I have had mine about 8 years... it is metal and says made in Germany. I am not sure of the brand but I have made sure that the sharpeners I buy for my private workshops are metal and made in Germany and they have been great! If a name brand helps you, I find that staedtler is my favorite name brand. Although it is a German brand I believe the parts are now made in China, but they have lasted me quite a while in the classroom as well. Hope this helps!!! 😊

    Not an artist, but your segment on Pale Rose is a reminder for coloring book enthusiasts youn and old to SWATCH THEIR COLORED PENCILS. There are no surprises to be expected when you swatch ‘em out beforehand, right?

    I personally think that Pale rose is a good color. Why you might ask? Well, whenever I use it I like to use it for a snowy, dark scene, or perhaps a shade for black (Since I draw a character that has quite some black on it), So I reccomend telling your students that pale rose is used for mostly snowy night scenes or a shade of black. Keep shining and stay safe.

    I like the pale rose color but I hate that it is called pale rose and that the pencil is pink. I actually wrote crayola and complained. I consider it greyed lavender. Even though I know this the pink barrel has confused me a few times. It is very frustrating but I like the color so I can't get rid of it.

    • @jennaturin9885
      @jennaturin9885  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Debbie N. I have joked about calling and complaining about it to Crayola but never actually did it 🤣!!!! Did you get a response? It has been so many years and they pencil has not changed- I agree the frustration is all in the color of the barrel and not the actual color!!!

    • @debbien.3315
      @debbien.3315 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have contacted crayola many times sometimes for questions,sometimes for comments and they always have responded. I don't know if they will ever change the pencil but I figure they will not know people are unhappy unless someone tells them.

      I use a KUM metal sharpener. My rule of thumb is if it is metal and from Germany it is probably a good one!
