    Good battles evil in this timeless story of Biblical heroism. The righteous Jew Mordecai and the despicable Haman square off for control of the young Persian King Xerxes. But Haman's plans include something horrible for Mordecai and his people. It is up to Mordecai's niece Esther to win the affection of the King, unmask Haman's treachery and save the Jewish people. Based upon the Book of Esther, this delightful retelling emphasizes the values of courage, faith and obedience.

    interesting fact about Esther, in the days of king Artaxerxes, whoever approached the king without being summoned would be put to death, unless the king held out the golden sceptor, so Esther risked her life to save her people.

    What's amazing about the book of Esther is that God is never mentioned once, but you can see God's hand working throughout the whole story of Esther. Haman hated Mordecai the uncle of Esther. Haman actually got permission from the King to construct gallows to hang anybody who would defy the Kings will. And he convinced the king to pass a law and Haman tried to use that law to kill the Jewish people. At the end of the day, Haman was the one that ended up getting hung on the gallows. One of my favorite stories of God's word!

    I think the comments below are quite harsh - the film doesn't pretend to be anything it is not. Of course a Christian film won't be able to compete with a mainstream blockbuster, and to maintain a "Dove Foundation Family Seal of Approval", it will need to be somewhat toned down. Breathe people!

    • @Deuteronomy649

      The problem with this film is that they left out all of the twists and turns that are part of the real Biblical account. No one is expecting a Hollywood blockbuster from Pureflix, but I mean seriously, the screen play could have just written itself if they hadn't taken so many details out of the Biblical account that resulted in the absence of any real drama to the story. What was left was a flat, drawn out movie that I would have abandoned in the first 30 min if it weren't for the fact that this was shown to our teen Bible study, which had just finished a study on the book of Esther.. Some of our teens wanted me to continue playing the movie to see if it would eventually redeem itself, others wanted me to continue to play it to see how many errors they could find (it became sort of a game for them), others just decided to go outside and shoot hoops. I agree, "One Night with the King" is a far better movie.

      ONWTK is so far removed from actual biblical account.

    • @algallego
      @algallego 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@saiyongdawn7756 Is this one (TBOE) closer or would you say spot on? It's sad to see such a big production have so much potential, yet fall short when they manage to pull off the epic scale and production qualities of a movie like ONWTK but end up falling short of being Biblically accurate. That's how I felt about The Prince of Egypt and so many movies either before or since. Christian movies tend to come across to non-believers as either sappy, preachy, or cheesily disingenuous, especially when they think we Christians treat Jesus like he's a quickly applied BandAid or salve on a situation, story, or character predicament which requires a solution more akin to open heart surgery or even years of healing before Jesus shows anyone through trials and tribulations.
      Jesus is not a quick fix on our problems-- He is the answer, but he doesn't change our circumstances at the drop of a hat or snap of our fingers. For us to communicate that idea so often in movies fails to show audiences the magnitude of His strength and power in that He can deal with the totality of our problems with complete thoroughness in the course of our progressing daily lives.
      While I believe healing can be instantaneous, sometimes solutions to many of our problems, societally or individual, begin with a steadfast diet of God's leading, even if it means 40 years in the wilderness before we see the effects of all of God's efforts and striving with us to bring us to the point of realization that He's been dealing effectively and mercifully with us all along to bring us to a point of fruition or victory over a challenge or trial.

    • @saiyongdawn7756
      @saiyongdawn7756 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@algallego I agree. We do sometimes treat the Lord like a bandaid. And the media rewrite the script to fit their own agenda mostly for profit. Do you know that a famous Christian tv network promoted this movie before it came out? This is why I am shocked by the script. Another viewer says it is based on a book written by some Author. Shocker huh?

      Well said! When a low budget movie like Pure Flix (Esther) uses cheap wigs, fake computer drawn outdoor scenes, past-their-prime actors and a sparse cast, I'm sorry to report that I get TOO DISTRACTED by all the amateur, obvious things. I love Esther from the Bible, as I love all things from God and Jesus. God gave me enough talent to work my way through my life in entertainment. And in this light, I'm sure God knows that there are Bible believers with much talent to offer the movie genre' with much stronger stories, sets, actors, props, directors and scripts. So if Bible movies are made with much better quality on several levels, we will all harvest even more souls from the general public of current unbelievers!

    Good casting and archiving in the index of quality information. I am going to make a guess and suggest that Robert - my brothers namesake is cast as such to represent a transmutation from the mill, or water to 🍷. And logic suggests that the role of Linda Bisesti who holds my sister's namesake is representing a role which archives the entire performance in such a way, synamous with the transfer of image upon the aureola 'surrounding radiance' of sacred personage upon the lined. There is no beauty of course when Earth as a whole can not formulate peace at the lakefront.

    Most jews you know are Ashkenazi Jews...those are converted European descended jews, thus they are JEWish people not JEWS. Jews are a descendant of Judah...thus originals Jews are not white...and rarely will you see a middle eastern with those features...but saying they dont exist is like saying albinos in Africa do not exist. Many middle easterns are of a darker shade noot the same color as a european descended individuals...your ignorance is bliss

    I don't even think "One Night With The King" is close to the right story. I hate how Hollywood has to add to a story. King Xerxes was incredibly ruthless and likely not some hunk from England. I have never read this as a love story between a man and a woman but a woman and her people in the face of tyranny.

    All they had to do was offer 0.90% of all profits made by this movie to a bunch of amateur indoor weed growers, and BAM, they would have had some lighting! Where as now they do not, and it shows!

    Jesus is the true savior of the Jewish people, all people in fact. Who do u think made everything happen the way it did so that Esther could be chosen to do what she did? God did. Many hear this story & miss the real message, it's not a cinderella story it's a story showing Gods love. Even in bondage under the Persian empire God still looks out for His people. Give Him the Glory He deserves. Esther was a human just like u&me &everyone commenting on here, except she was a vessel used for honor:-)

    Well, this is a movie, we don't know what he called her in real life when they were alone. I think perhaps it would have been best for her to remember that she is Esther because you never know who may have overheard him call her Hadassah; or she may have accidentally introduced herself as Hadassa, then what? The whole thing would have been ruined. Calling her Esther even when they were alone probably would have been best. For keeping up the pretense. Just saying.

    Pao Thenghliss would have been a stronger casting choice for the role of Mordecai ! Robert Miano's voice is too soft and whispers inaudibly through many lines of dialogue. Jenn Lilley is very good (and beautiful) in her role. I wish that the director molded her version of Esther slightly more eloquent and regal - worthy of a king's magnetic attraction to her. Her demeanor is just too casual.
    Many of the wigs used on characters in this movie are ill-fitting, not "cut-in" or styled to look natural at all....like the young boy or girl used in the opening scene in the role of a very young Esther. Her (or his) wig looks like the same overtly large, black wig I see on older men in other scenes of this movie. Did wardrobe and hair dressers for this movie get forced to share wigs between actors?
    I realize this is a low budget Pure Flix movie. And...I LOVE Pure Flix for being brave in producing Bible movies. But being a proven veteran actor, director, playwright and producer myself, I wish Pure Flix was more amenable to welcoming other dedicated Christians whom have many talents to offer. I know I would willingly give MUCH OF MYSELF to a Bible movie project - which would enhance the quality of their movies. (Grand thought, except the Pure Flix web site stubbornly puts up a road block to any such offers or suggestions to improve their movies. They give you no sounding board of audience feedback.....sounds a little like politicians in D.C., right? )
