This song was inspired by the book "Veronica decides to die". In the book the protagonist Veronica, who lives in Slovenia, is so bored with her life she decides to overdose on sleeping pills (hence the first two lines of the song). She doesn't kill herself though, and ends up in a mental hospital, where she finds out she has a week to live. The video just sort of reinforces the story the song tells, in a way that some people may not see/understand.
I have just realized that this song was dedicated to the book after finishing it. I used to listen to Billy Talent a lot in my early teenage years and I was recalling this song in my mind without remembering the artist and the whole lyrics. This took me on a trip down memory lane :)
I mean, dont get me wrong the leadsinger does a great job, but this gitarrist and bassist are just over the top. Houly fuck that is so amazing.. Never saw a band with such perfect voccals, while also having the most awesome melodys ever made..
This song came out when I was 15 at a time where I was heavily fixating on finding a way out of a chaotic home environment by any means. I can't tell you how much this album meant to me, and how seen it makes me feel even to this day. After finding a way out, I "unravelled" like the protagonist in this vid, a harrowing but necessary part of becoming. Ten years later, I can def say I'm so glad that I didn't leave this world behind, and that I really would give anything to mosh out to this live. Love Billy Talent forever, thanks for giving us true artistry, and something honest and meaningful to connect with.
I remember when I was 10 and this album came out really liking this song but never knowing what it truly meant. That has changed now and as a person I respect this song a lot
@@saskatoon16 the “Saint Veronica” in the song is a girl who tries to kill herself. Hence lyrics like “now she clings to life inside a hospital” and “Veronika, Saint Veronika you can’t leave this world tonight”
They found an empty bottle on her windowsill The day her mother lost her sleeping pills She was sick and tired of being invisible Hard to see in colour when you're miserable Veronika, Saint Veronika You can't leave this world behind So, be strong enough to hold onto us We're still right here by your side No one ever thought that she was capable And the damage done is irreversible Now, she clings to life inside a hospital Like she's trapped inside a frozen waterfall Always said her life was never meant to be Stuck here living someone else's dream Well, beyond your window, there is so much more Even every prison has an open door Veronika, Saint Veronika You can't leave this world behind So, be strong enough to hold onto us It's just not your time to die And while the angels sleep, all of the devils are awake Waiting to steal your love right outside of Heaven's gate And all the sacred hearts can't numb the feeling from the pain 'Cause when the drugs don't work, you're gonna curse his holy name Damn, God, yeah! God, yeah! Damn, God, yeah! God, yeah! Veronika, Saint Veronika You can't leave this world behind Oh, Veronika, Saint Veronika We're still right here by your side So, be strong enough to hold onto us You can't leave this world behind Oh, Veronika, Saint Veronika It's just not your time to die
To start as a very young RATM cover band then expand it into a very impressive international band with own style and boat load of hits and great music , I hear ya.. but there is no best band, just alot of shitty ones.. Billy Talent is among the elite ..
This video means a lot to me, because i grew up with very strict parents who never let me go out on my own ecxept school until i was 19 and moved out. When i moved out i had more freedome, but because of the way i grew up i'm very shy which made it hard to find new friends or take the courage to make new experience and go out of my comfort zone. I often feel like the doll, who could escape, but is still stuck on her home. Somehow this video is very sad, but on the other hands its soothing to see your feelings reflected this way.
@@ryleycarroll7184 What is the benefit of pointing that out? That is what makes music, literature and other art forms so amazing. If you look a bit deeper, in this beautiful rendition of Veronica Decides to Die by Billy Talent, it is never stated whether or not Veronica dies, and I truly think they were trying to convey that sometimes conditions like depression can blur things out, but even if you can't see it, there's always somebody there for you. That's my interpretation, but I can also honestly see what Lala Blala is saying, and they are completely entitled to relate their experiences to the song. Billy Talent: just putting this out there...we're big fans, and think you could do a killer rendition of the classic Johnny Cash song, Ring of Fire. With a previously unreleased album (Out Among the Stars) dropping March 25th, Johnny Cash is being resurrected over a decade after his death and I think you guys could catch some big American audiences with a new version of his revered and relatively uncovered tune. I see a guerrilla performance in Buffalo coinciding with the revitalization of the city’s park system - shoot a quick video promoting city-building and civic pride, showcase yourselves and Buffalo parks, get it viral, contribute your efforts to charity - a win win win... you should do it! We want to make it happen and if you act soon, how about you have a military tank around during the shoot?!? With every respect intended, please let us know if you’re into it - no one could add the reverence of you guys!!
Nick Overholt Nick, wouldn't it!?! Ian and Ben would SO own "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash! Can you hear those vocals? Those guitar riffs and treatments? Bass and percussion both, FILL the song out, completing it. I can hear the magnificent sound now. WARNING: As Brendan said under "Viking Death March", don't EVEN think about them going down the line towards a career in country music - not a good thing, doesn't end well...for anybody. Thanks Dude!
Music changes all the time, What you're saying is that you arent willing to accept the new styles of music, I personally dont like them but it's no reason to bash the people who listen to them
I love nowadays music but I do wish that more people liked Billy Talent. I love 2000s rock and post-hardcore and unfortunately this type of music is not popular anymore
Tbh when they first came out in my teens they was no where near as known as they deserved, but in their music scene people loved them, but yea they shoulda go so much more. One of my nostalgic bands I always visit now and then
Everyone saying that the notes and riffs hes playing isn't that complex or difficult to play don't really understand that music doesn't have to be entirely composed of complexity and the difficulty of variation of notes. If you look at "teen spirit" - Nirvana , its literally like four chords in the entire song. What makes it an iconic song is the emotion/vibe of that bang it gives you when you hear it. Doesn't have to have any crazy solos to make a song great. Any person can wank off on a fuckn guitar, but to make music even if its composed of four chords, if they can put thier inspiration, vibe, twist and feelings into it, that makes a great song subjectively. What also helps is when people can relate to it and vibe with the song. That riff at 2:10 is fuckn awesome, even if it is a "easy" riff to play. Thanks Billy Talent, you guys fuckn rock. 🤘
as a hardcore Muse fan, the main riff and bass line really resonated with me. when this showed up in my recommended I thought "could this possibly be a Muse song I haven't heard before?" you can definitely hear the influence, the riff sounds very much like Hysteria with those open strings between every note and the bass has that same Muse signature tone. Very nice!
@@captainpain_qc7982 yep, it's pretty good too. The song is strangely familiar, I thought I wouldn't have recognised it. Sounds a little less Musey and more unique for sure
To this day ever since release. This intro gives me the bumps. Let me live through such different phases of my life. But when the scream from Ben hits. One of their best tracks ever released
Saw them 3 days ago on a festival and I really loved it how they played Nothing To Lose and this song after they spoke about Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. One of my favourite bands and now more then ever!
Being a person from another timeline i get it.. but I make the best of it i can. Our MISSION IS TO BE OURSELVES AND TRY TO CHANGE AS MANY AS POSSIBLE TO FAITH AND HONOUR 🎖.
Thats ian. And yeah u know why ? They both accept to enphasize the lead singer despite the fact they sing a bit off key. Coltrane was famous with sax playing for the same reason - playing a bit off key
I had the same when I was alone with my pregnacy... No one was there for me, so my baby is Maryanne Veronika now. :) This song helps me through this bad time... She was listening Billy Talent when she was in my belly and she was dancing there with their music! :)
Such an underrated song by Billy Talent. Impressive screams by the singer as well.

Yeah, it's my favourite Billy Talent Song
This Suffering is my fav
since when was it underrated? lul white sparrows is still my fav tho :3
It is a little overshadowed by Rusted From the Rain and Devil on My Shoulder. I definitely think this one is the best from BTIII

as a hardcore Muse fan, the main riff and bass line really resonated with me. when this showed up in my recommended I thought "could this possibly be a Muse song I haven't heard before?" you can definitely hear the influence, the riff sounds very much like Hysteria with those open strings between every note and the bass has that same Muse signature tone. Very nice!
yeah, definitely! that kind of riff kicks ass too. this one sure sounds like Hysteria, but the one opening for Devil in a Midnight mass stands apart!
@@DyssLock thanks, i'll be sure to check it out!
@@joaorichter9970 did you check it??
@@captainpain_qc7982 yep, it's pretty good too. The song is strangely familiar, I thought I wouldn't have recognised it. Sounds a little less Musey and more unique for sure
I love how each one of their songs tell such tales..
THIS CHARACTER DESIGN IS EPIC!
put a human in a doll
just fall into the Uncanny valley

Saw them 3 days ago on a festival and I really loved it how they played Nothing To Lose and this song after they spoke about Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. One of my favourite bands and now more then ever!
2:07 I love this part
From the first time this came out to présente, this is my LIFE song! Needed it again today 🙏🏼❤️🔥

Hello from 2018

*put lifesize doll out of room"...try to sleep...never sleep again
"So stay strong-ica, and hold on-ica!"
Seriously though love this song. This band has really grown on me over the years.
It's actually "So be strong enough, to hold onto us". I'm only commenting this because I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.
Ender I was definitely being sarcastic.
He sounds like Daron Malakian!
I never even noticed until now.... Gonna go rethink my existence..
Yup
Thats ian. And yeah u know why ? They both accept to enphasize the lead singer despite the fact they sing a bit off key. Coltrane was famous with sax playing for the same reason - playing a bit off key
@@axellaverre8696 hes talking about the singer not the guitarist dumbass
no he does not
THX A LOT BILLY TALENT !!!!
“While the angels sleep, all of the devils are awake”
Just saw them yesterday in Sherbrooke QC, that 2:07 breakdown was fucking insane man, favorite part of the whole show
Flipando cada vez que escucho este tío cantar, me parece realmente una banda poco valorada, siendo de las mejores bandas punk rock.
