Lol "There are no 'non-negotiables' with kids" is the most relatable thing I've ever heard on TH-cam. I loved this video.

I‘m a working mom of two small kids living in Central Europe who gets up at 5.30 a.m. to leave for work at 7.00 a.m.
Sunlight first simply isn’t happening here this early in the morning. Not everyone has the flexibility to do an elaborate routine, let alone with kids. I’m a doctor, so even pre- kids work started way too early for a routine like this. So thank you for the perspective!

Thank you for this vid! Trying to explain to people doing 1 hour of a morning “routine” when your kid gets up @5am & you have 1 hr TOTAL to workout / get kid ready / eat etc before you start your job is like talking to a brick wall. Thank you for your take on it.

Refreshing to see someone tackling the subject with a hefty dollop of realism. Thank you.

Also winter here: the sun isn't up until 7:30 but I've got to get up at 6-630 to get everything done (housework, workout, dog walk, usual getting ready activities) before I start my 'real work' at about 930. That being said, older kids here and dogs and a husband so that's easier (although I have to be on call for things they need- form filled out, surprise assignment due, late for the bus, etc.) and I have a commitment with my husband to drink our coffees together. I have been working in a few things though- water first thing, morning walk everyday (almost), and cold showers after my workouts. I think it's helping but need to negotiate a few more changes.

First-time father of a 7-month old here. Thx for a real and honest approach to this topic. It's like you said - if you wanna be a good partner and dad, you have to take the time that you get. And sometimes, not always, that means to cut out the fancy stuff and get to work. Good video, bro

Appreciated this so much. My husband leaves for work at 5:30AM, nanny arrives at 8:30AM, and I start work at 9AM. And highly-attached baby wakes at 5:30AM. It's a struggle to get dressed and eat before work with all that has to be done for the baby -- let alone all of the optimized morning routine stuff. This was relatable and important! Thank you for making it!

Such an interesting video! I always watch the morning routine videos and wonder how you can do that with kids. You can take it in turns with your partner which is what we do, but you cannot be consistent and sometimes with a baby you have a bad night or a difficult morning and routines go out of the window... I have a 13 month old and work full time and have no time to myself as I work full time but you inspired me to look after myself a bit more.

Love the video and totally agree on the teamwork aspect with your wife. It's definitely a give and take scenario and 100% you're right, you can't just do everything for yourself and leave your wife all the slack. Another reason I can't marathon train right now is because I can't in good conscience go out on 1-2 hour training runs.
We have 2 under 2, and one important thing to point out is the age of the parents. We're in our mid 30's now & I can with certainty tell you that if we had kids 5 years earlier, I would indubitably have more ENERGY and mental willpower for morning routines like this. It's all I can do to get up and workout/shower/get dressed before the kids wake up. I appreciate your videos and the insight!

The beeline for sunlight was too funny 😂 appreciate your perspective on the whole “perfect morning routine” trend, everyone’s lives are different and what works for some doesn’t always work for others so it’s nice to hear that reminder at times!

I wanna give you a hug my dude. As husband and dad of two girls that recently stumbled upon the Huberman routine, tried it, concluded exactly what you described and read in other threads…doesn’t work for me…love the concepts tho and appreciate your view on picking and choosing, trimming down to some core routine but allowing flexibility and mostly, allowing grace when it all goes to shit because THE most important part of my life (wife and two kids) need me.
Anyway, great vid and thx for some motivation to maybe try some stuff but only what works in my version of productivity.

I have 6 kids and one of them has health issues. I used to have a morning routine, but it's turned into "wake up, survive" 😂
I ran my first marathon last year but I havent ran nearly as much this year. Sometimes life is just nuts and you gotta focus on the most important things first.

6 kids?? I can't imagine what your mornings look like haha. Yeah sometimes you do what you gotta do. It takes a ton of time to prep for a marathon.

your advice is very reasonable - I also go with the flow and since we're reasonable people, what matters is always done - any regimented routine restricts that flow creating friction and is not worth it. All these regiments work when everyone in the family is on-board with it.

I love the Video Jake! I had the same thoughts every single time watching and trying the "routines".1) I just had a 10+5 mins ice plunge while taking care of kids 3+5 yo in the pool y-day. And that was a challenge to get these 15 mins still alert and watch the kids asking them to play nicely by the pool 2) Last night I went to sleep with them at 9PM, only to be able to wake up at 5.30AM to catch up with meditation/journaling. This is so f%^ing difficult for a father. Jake, it would help if you tried to extend your experiment for 30 days and see how it works (and add the cold plunge).

    • @JakeFerrin
      @JakeFerrin  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah that's a great idea. Our 10 month old has been wrecking our sleep recently so our mornings have not been as disciplined. It would be fun to do a 30-day, "reclaim the mornings" experiment where we try different morning routines. And yeah add in cold plunge. I just hate being cold when I'm trying to work but I guess they say to do it before working out so that could work. Thanks for the comment!

Great video. I don't have kids but the highest ROI morning practice I do is getting 5-10 minutes of sunlight in my eyes. My apartment faces the sunrise so it's easy for me but given the time it takes, I sleep way better and find it easy to get up at the same time every day

I use the Sony FX3 or my iPhone. I used to have the Canon M50 with the Sigma 16mm lens which is a lot cheaper option. For t shirts I've been liking the Abercrombie essential tee and the Zanerobe box t shirt.
