🛤️HEAVY MOUNTAIN RAILROADING IN THE DESERT! Huge Trains Fighting the Hill - Great Views and Audio!

- Had a great Time watching trains this weekend! Lots of great views and Audio of trains thundering up the hill! We drove about an hour East of San Timoteo Canyon to catch some trains Climbing the Backside of Beaumont hill!
Got lucky right at the beginning, and caught a Westbound starting its climb at Garnet, while meeting a Z Train coming down the grade!
Shortly after that, the M-TUMC shows up, rumbling up the mountain. You can really hear the DPU's on this one, down on their knees, digging into the grade as it passes Amtrak's Palm Springs, CA Station!
We catch this big Union Pacific manifest later, about ten miles up, at a place called FINGAL.

Over 2600' climb from Indio to Beaumont in 50 miles.

@FJDad777 haha yea, trees, poles! I try and scout out the area before and see what a safe height is where I'm above most obstacles but it's still tricky while the trains going by

Where were you shooting exactly? Beaumont Hill doesn't show on Google maps and was curious the location with all the windmills, etc. Nice video!

THIS IS WHY YOU DINT PUT LOCOMOTIVES THATS GEARED FOR HIGH SPEEDS IN LONG, HEAVY DRAG FREIGHTS! WHEN YOU DO THIS, YOU CAN Have AS MANY AS EIGHT OF THESE 4400 HORSEPOWER GE LOCOMOTIVES ON THE TRAIN. IF YOU PUT THESE IN IT, YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT GETTING THE TRAIN OVER THE LONG,HEAVY GRADES ! THESE LOCOMOTIVES FROM GE MAY SOUND GOOD, BUT THEY ARE NOT GEARED FOR Slow DRAG FREIGHTS! THE HIGHER THE GEAR RATIO, THE LESS TRACTIVE EFFORT YOU WILL HAVE, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT GEARED FOR Slow, HEAVY FREIGHTS! AS A RESULT, THE TRACTION MOTORS WILL BURN UP BECAUSE, THEY ARE TURNING TOO SLOWLY TO ABSORB ALL THE ELECTRICAL Power GENERATED BY THE ENGINE /GENERATOR SET; WHICH IN MANY CASES, WILL CAUSE THE LOCOMOTIVE TO CATCH FIRE AND BURN UP! ANY LOCOMOTIVE THAT'S GEARED FOR HIGH SPEED INTERMODAL TRAINS, SHOULD NOT BE USED ON SLOW DRAG FREIGHTS! THE LOWER THE GEAR RATIO, THE BETTER CHANCES THE TRAIN WILL HAVE AS IT GOES UP THE GRADES! WHEN IT COMES TO Slow ,HEAVY TRAINS, THE BEST LOCOMOTIVES TO USE IS THOSE LOCOMOTIVES THAT ARE GEARED FOR Slow, HEAVY DRAG FREIGHTS! NOT THE HIGHSPEED ONES!

They seem to work fine for me....As long as there's fuel, and water in them.
This is why they need to put stick shifts in the locomotives,then the clutches wouldn’t burn up,get rid of the automatic transmissions and you know the tractive effort would increase on slow drags on long heavy trains
